举一反三
A rat looked through a crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife opening a package. What food might it contain? But he discovered that it was a rattrap (捕鼠夹). Going back to the farmyard, the rat started to give a warning. The rat turned to the pig and told him:“There is a rattrap in the house, a rattrap in the house!” “I’m sorry, Mr. Rat,” said the pig, “I can only say this is something terrible to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered with it.” The rat turned to the cow. But the cow said, “Like wow, Mr. Rat? A rattrap? I am in danger, Huh?” The rat returned to the house, head down and dejected. So the rat had to face the farmer"s rattrap alone. That very night, a sound was heard throughout the house, like the sound of a rattrap catching its prey (猎物). The farmer"s wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not notice that it was a poisonous snake whose tail had been caught by the trap. The snake bit her.The farmer rushed her to hospital. She returned home with a fever. Everyone knows that a fever could be treated with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his knife to the farmyard for the soup. However, his wife"s sickness continued. The farmer"s friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer killed the pig. But she didn"t get well. Finally, she died, and so many people came for the last sight that the farmer had the cow killed to provide meat for all of them. So the next time you hear that someone is facing a problem and think that it does not concern you, remember that the whole farmyard is at risk when there is a rattrap in the house. 小题1:From the passage we know that ______.A.the pig helped the rat get rid of the trap | B.the cow strongly believed in what the rat said | C.no animals showed concern over the rat"s warning | D.the snake was killed immediately after being caught | 小题2:The underlined word ‘‘dejected” is the closest in meaning to _______.A.disappointed | B.surprised | C.irritated | D.excited | 小题3:We can learn from the article that _______.A.the farmer had planned to kill the rat | B.the rat was very clever in avoiding the trap | C.the farmer"s wife got good treatment in hospital | D.the rat had expected what would happen to the pig and cow | 小题4: What message does the story intend to pass?A.We should mind our own business. | B.Everything is related to something else. | C.We"d better treat animals in a friendly way. | D.The farmer couple and their friends are all foolish. |

I love it at night. It’s peaceful. And when it cools down I sometimes do some ironing. I don’t really care for it. I work full-time and am too busy for most housework. I remember the old woman who taught me to iron(熨烫). I was about 15 and somehow got a live-in job taking care of a woman who had been an able-bodied, healthy woman until the accident that caused her to be paralyzed. The woman had an electric wheelchair. She could move her head and arms but not her hands or fingers. She had this clamp(夹子)attached to her arm and I’d have to open it and put a cup or a pencil in it and then she could move it. She would tell me how to do things. She would instruct me in great detail on the correct way to do things. Her home was perfect and beautiful. She would follow me around in her electric wheelchair to make sure I did everything exactly right. I’m sure she had been a perfect homemaker. She would have me fold everything, including socks and pillow cases. I would complain silently and wish terrible things on her. She taught me the right way to make the bed and tuck the corners. I know sometimes she’d get frustrated and impatient with me. I knew she wanted to grab it and do it herself. But she never yelled or scolded. Only she insisted I do it right. I didn’t like it much, but I did it. Today I can iron pretty well. I know where to start on a shirt, the right way to do the collar and sleeves. Now that I think about it, I don’t think she is an old lady. I think she might have been about my age now. Anyway, when I iron, I think of her and silently thank her for all the things I learned. 小题1:From the passage we can infer that the writer of the passage now is ________. A.careful to learn | B.eager to learn | C.forced to learn | D.unwilling to learn | 小题4:What’s the writer’s attitude towards the lady now? A.Sympathetic. | B.Fearful. | C.Thankful. | D.Hateful. |

If you want your life to stand for peace and kindness, it’s helpful to do kind, peaceful things. One of my 16 ways to do this is by developing my own 17 actions. These little acts of kindness are 18 to be of service and reminders of how good it feels to be 19 and helpful. We live in a rural area of the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of what we see is beauty and 20 .One of the exceptions to the beauty is the 21 that some people throw out of their windows as they are 22 on the rural roads. One of the few drawbacks to 23 the mountainous area is that public services, such as litter collection, are less 24 than those are closer to the city. A helping action that I practice 25 with my two children is picking up litter in our surrounding area. We" ve become so 26 to doing this that my daughters will often say to me in exciting 27 , "There" s some litter, Daddy, stop the 28 !" And if we have time, we will often pull over and pick it up. It may seem 29 , but we actually enjoy it. We pick up litter in parks, on sidewalks, practically 30 . Once I even saw a complete stranger picking up litter close to 31 we live. He smiled at me and said, "I saw you doing it, and it seemed like a good 32 ." Picking up litter is only one of an 33 supply of possible helping actions. You might like holding a door open for people, 34 lonely elderly people in nursing homes, or removing snow off someone else" s driveway. Perhaps you might 35 something that seems effortless yet helpful. It" s fun, personally rewarding, and setting a good example. Everyone wins.
