阅读理解。     Songs that make our hearts happy can make them stronger too, US researchers reported on
Tuesday. They found that when people listened to their favorite music, their blood vessels (血管)
dilated in much the same way as when they are laughing, or taking blood medications.
"We have a pretty impressive effect," said Dr Michael Miller, director of preventive cardiology
(心脏病学) at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
"Blood vessel diameter improved," he said. "The vessel opened up pretty significantly. You can
see the vessels opening up with other activities such as exercise." A similar effect is seen with drugs
such as statins.
When blood vessels open up more, blood flows more smoothly and is less likely to form the
clots (凝块) that cause heart attacks and strokes. "We are not saying to stop your statins or not to
exercise but rather to add this to an overall program of heart health," said Miller, who presented his
findings to a meeting of the American Heart Association in New Orleans.
Miller"s team tested 10 healthy, non-smoking men and women, who were told to bring their
favorite music. They spent half an hour listening to the recordings and half an hour listening to music
they said made them feel anxious while the researchers did ultrasound tests designed to show blood
vessel function.
Compared to their normal baseline measurements, blood vessel diameter increased 26 percent
on average when the volunteers heard their joyful music. Listening to music they disliked - in most
cases in this group heavy metal - blood vessels narrowed by six percent, Miller said.
Miller said he came up with the idea after discovering that laughter caused blood to literally flow
more smoothly. "I asked myself what other things make us feel really good, besides calories from
dark chocolate of course. Music came to mind. ... It makes me feel really good," he said.
Most of the volunteers chose country music but Miller said the style is not so important rather
than what pleases each individual.1. The underlined word dilate (in Paragraph 2) is closest in meaning to "_____". A. widen
B. move
C. change
D. increase     2. According to the passage, which of the following will NOT cause blood vessels to open up?A. Taking exercise.

B. music is better than chocolate for your health
C. the style of music has different effects on different people
D. a person"s overall health is more influenced by how much exercise he gets4. What is the passage possibly taken out from? A. A scientific journal(杂志).

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余选项。     TUVALU, a tiny country in the Pacific Ocean, has asked for help as it fears it will be swallowed
up by the sea.
Storms and huge waves are a constant threat and none of Tuvalu"s nine little islands is more than
five meters above sea leavel, Salt water is already entering the country"s drinking water supply, as wel
l as damaging plants that produce fruit and vegetable. 1___________
2____  __. Venice, a historic city in Italy best known for its canals, has sunk about 24 cm over the
past 100 years.   Experts say that it will have sunk another 20-50cm by 2050.           A century ago,
St. Mark"s Square, the lowest point in the city, flooded about nine times a year, Nowadays, it happens
more that 100 times. While Venice is slowly sinking into the mud on which it stands, Tuvalu"s rising sea
level is caused by global warming.
The average global temperature has increased by almost 0.5 centigrade degrees over the past century; scientists expect it to rise by extra 1-3 degrees over the next 100 years.
Warmer weather makes glaciers(冰川)melt, adding more water to the ocean. The warmer temperatures also make water expand, so it takes up more space, causing the sea level to rise. The sea level has risen    about 10-25 cm in the last 100 years.
3______. Through burning coal, oil and gas, people have been increasing the greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere, such as CO2. This adds to the power of the greenhouse effect, making the planet even warmer. Many scientists believe that, if the warming is not stopped, there will be huge climate changes. 4______5_______, the sea will swallow up millions of homes and the world will be flooded with "climate refugees" looking for somewhere to live.A. The main cause of global warming is human pollution
B. Should this come true
C. Without urgent help, the country"s days are numbered.
D. But Tuvalu is not the first place to face sinking into the sea
E. The sea level could rise by one meter this century
F. people face a lot of pollution
G. much has been done about our planet

more deeply into your consciousness, a new study has found.
And having one or two glasses of wine a day may increase your ability to remember, and even
help with Alzheimer (老年痴呆症) sufferers. The study at Auckland University was undertaken by
Dr. Maggie Kalev and Professor Mathew During.
The two researchers found moderate levels of alcohol consumption, equivalent to one or two
glasses of wine a day, could augment memory.
In contrast, high levels of alcohol decreased the ability of new brain cells to develop and mature.
"Low levels of alcohol promoted neutral memories, such as remembering objects," said Dr. Kalev.
"However, contrary to popular belief, we also found that excessive levels of alcohol enhanced
memories of highly emotional stimuli (刺激), meaning the concept of "drinking to forget" is unlikely
to be true."
"Our work suggests that heavy drinking actually reinforces negative memories."
The study also identified the way low doses of alcohol improved memory.
Dr. Kalev said a "very important" brain receptor(受体), called an NMDA receptor, appeared
to be necessary for the process.
Testing done on rats showed if they did not have enough NMDA receptors, their memory did
not improve when given low alcohol doses.
However, rats which did show high numbers of NMDA receptors exhibited memory improvement
when given small amounts of alcohol.
"Pathways  by which memory is laid down are unclear, but  NMDA  receptor is  critical  in  this
process," Dr. Kalev said.
"Building on this knowledge may help in the treatment of memory disorders, such as Alzheimer"s
disease and other dementias."
The results of the study are published in Journal of Neuroscience. 1. What is the best title of the passage? A. The introduction of Alzheimer
B. The good effect of alcohol
C. The importance of NMDA receptor
D. Moderate drinking can improve memory2. Which statement is TRUE according to the passage? A. Not low levels but excessive levels of alcohol increase memory.
B. An NMDA receptor is the only factor for the process.
C. According to the testing done on rats, their memory did not improve when given low alcohol doses if they did not have enough NMDA receptors.
D. It is sure that the knowledge of the research can help to treat the memory disorders. 3. This article probably appears in ______.A. a newspaper
B. science report
C. science fiction
D. a novel4. What can we infer from the passage?A. Alcohol is unharmful to the new brain cells.
B. The alcoholic amount beneficial to individuals is certain.
C. It is advised that one should not drink too much to forget emotional stimuli.
D. The alcoholic degree of wine is very critical in the research.

panels which change the sun"s energy into electricity, " Dettling explained.
The Solaria also has lights that automatically turn off when people leave the room. In addition, the
building has lots of windows, allowing people to use the sun for light during the day. The Solaire cuts
water reusing it.

阅读理解。     Influenza (流行性感冒)has been with us a long, time. According to some Greek writers on
medical history, the outbreak of 412 BC was of influenza. The same has been suggested of the
sickness that swept through the Greek army attacking Syracuse in 395 BC. Flu is a disease that
moves most quickly among people living in crowded conditions, hence it is likely to attack armies.
In April 1918, flu broke out among American troops stationed in France. It quickly spread
through all the armies but caused relatively few deaths. Four months later, however, a second
outbreak started which proved to be a killer. It killed not only the old and already sick but also
healthy young adults. It went through every country in the world, only a few distant islands in the
South Atlantic and the Pacific remaining untouched. Before the great outbreak ended, it had killed
at least 15 million people.
Medical science is still not certain what hit us in 1918. The virus of influenza (流感病毒) was
not found until 1933, so all that today can be said about the 1918 outbreak is the kind of antibodies
it produced.
The first big advance was also made in 1933, then a team of British doctors found the type A
influenza virus. In 1940, a doctor of the United States found type B. Later type C was found, along
with many subgroups of type A and B. Vaccines (疫苗) were prepared and used widely by the
armies during the Second World War to prevent outbreaks.
The flu virus proved trickier (奸诈) than most. A vaccine good against one type gave a protection
against another. Indeed type A virus changes its nature so quickly that a perfectly good vaccine may
lose its value because of the change. This increases the need for the speedy discovery of flu outbreaks,
so that stocks(家畜) of the right vaccine can be prepared quickly after an outbreak. Starting such a
warning system was one of the first things done by the World Health Organization. .1.Why is influenza easier to attack armies?A. Because it moves very quickly.
B. Because it spread through Greek army long ago .
C. Because it spread through the crowded most quickly.
D. Because an army moves more often.2.How many types of influenza have been found excluding subgroups?

A. One type.
B. Two types.
C. Three types.
D. Four types

3.How many people were killed in the flu outbreak of 1918?A. One million.
B. Several million.
C. Seven million
D. Fifteen million.4.Which of the following is true according to the passage you have just read?A. Before 1936 people didn"t know what caused influenza.
B. A Group of American doctors first discovered the types of influenza
C. All kinds of vaccine can not prevent every kind of influenza virus.
D. The earliest outbreak of disease mentioned happened in the year 412 BC.

sound a baby makes when born could be a sign of anger. Anger may be the original or first emotion
we feel and respond to. Imagine, before hunger, thirst, love, desire or any other describable feeling,
we may experience anger. Not only is anger a natural emotion, it is in many cases a perfectly healthy
emotion. Anger can motivate people to make very positive changes in their lives. Anger can motivate
individuals to do positive and memorable acts. Sometimes we have to be angry at injustice, at evil, or
even at nature, before we can do what needs to be done to correct wrongs or make things better. But
of course, that is not how we usually think of anger.
Most people think of anger as an emotion we must keep under control. Children are sometimes
sent to their rooms or punished for expressing anger in an excessive (过渡的) way. Parents tell a child
to "get control" of himself when the child shows anger. We may be angry with friends or at work, but
we know it is usually inappropriate to show it. We have to control the anger or suffer what may be the
negative consequences. Very early in life, we learn that anger is something that must be controlleD.
We learn this for a good reason.
We know that uncontrolled anger can lead to fights, car accidents, bad relationships with others,
unacceptable social behavior, and many other problems. Many experts say that if one holds his anger
in, it can even lead to severe mental and physical health problems. So what can we do to understand
and calm this natural emotion that we call anger?
Experts offer many solutions to excessive and harmful anger. Some of these solutions include talking
about what triggers the anger with someone you trust and is a good friend, leaving a situation that causes
anger, beating on a pillow, exercising more in one"s daily life, therapy, medication, and many other methods. Whatever solution one chooses, it is good to know that by trying to find the solution to the problem of
