Write NO MORE THAN 3 WORDS for each answer.
More and more mothers have joined it and have benefited from it. What attracts them most is the idea that you
pay your babysitter not in cash, but in paper cards. When you join the babysitting pool, you are given thirty
cards, which are worth 30-minute babysitting time each. For each half an hour while you are gone, th
e babysitter gets paid one card.
There are rules regulating this service. You should not watch more than three kids at a time including your
own. On big holidays, such as Christmas and Thanksgiving, the babysitter should be paid twice as much,
which means two cards for every half an hour. When you leave the babysitting pool, you should return all the
cards. If you are out of cards, you cannot use money instead. You should have to baby-sit for others to earn
enough cards so that you will have them handy when you yourself need a babysitter.
Many mothers think highly of this service. It keeps children in constant touch with one another, and makes
life easier for the mothers. Since in most cases, the babysitter is the mother who watches other kids at her
own home, it is still possible for her to do her own things while the kids play with each other. In fact most
mother babysitters find that their own kids are less of a monster and easier to watch when they are around
other playmates. Moreover, since the babysitting pool service does not involve money, it will not be a financial
loss to the family.
In the past year, the babysitting pool has helped so many mothers with their work that they all think that it
is indeed a good community service worth keeping.

documentary (纪录片) Open wide last Tuesday was excellent for people like me. However, none of my
school friends watched it because they didn"t know it was on. Why can"t television companies let us
know about such important programmes in advance?
This pragrammes was important because it showed how methods for helping people with toothache
have developed over the centuries. If you think visiting the dentist today is an uncomfortable experience,
just be grateful you didn"t live 200 years ago! Then, the programmes told us, the only cure for toothache
was removing the tooth. There weren"t any dentists, so the person who cut your hair also pulled out
your bad teeth, and there was nothing to stop you feeling the pain.
The programme has also completely changed my attitude to looking after my teeth. My parents were
always saying to me things like, "Don"t eat too many sweets." And, "Brush your teeth after meals." But I
never paid much attention. Now I"ve seen what damage sugar can do, especially if I don"t use a toothbrush
regularly. I"m going to change my habits. Many people would benefit from a repeat of this programme.

Even if you are an experienced backpacker or climber, you need to know what to do if something goes
wrong. It is not that Alaska is that much more dangerous than other places. It is no more hazardous than
elsewhere, as long as the proper precautions (预防措施) are taken. So, being prepared is important to a safe
trip.
First of all, make sure you pack everything you will need for your trip. Even if you are traveling by car,
pack clothers and gear (用具) for backpacking. Because of the extreme weather, cars break down frequently.
Pack a coat, gloves, a hat, snow-pants, sleeping bags, candles, a flashlight, and high-energy food.
If you are traveling by car, also pack extra belts, a spade, and a chain (铁链). If you are camping or
hiking, make sure you know how to avoid bears. If you are lost in the forest, there is no doubt that you will
encounter (遇到) them.
However, there is no need to be nervous. Just take these precautions: make noise as you walk, bears will
avoid you; cook your food away from where you sleep, and store your food away from where you sleep, so
the bears are not attracted. Both of these should keep the bears away. However, if you do encounter a bear,
there are two different schools of thought. One is to make noise and scare the bear away. The other is to
stand still and speak softly to get the bear to leave. If you are dealing with a brown bear, you can climb a tree,
since they cannot follow. But black bears can climb. If for some reason the bear attacks, play dead. Try to
protect your head and neck, and hopefully the bear will leave its “dead” prey (捕获物).

People have all sorts of thoughts that they wish to express. For many reasons, most people just keep their
thoughts to themselves and never share them with others. One from of self-expression is the written word.
For many people, it is easier to express their thoughts or emotions in writing. It is an especially popular way
of expressing feelings among shy people.
People"s thoughts are written down and then published so that others can read and enjoy them. There are
many reasons why newspapers and publishers actually publish people"s thoughts, but the main reason is to
give information.
With the introduction of newer technologies, new ways now exist for people to share their thoughts. Blogs
are just one way to share ideas more quickly. People can now let the world know their hopes, dreams and
day-to-day activities through a web log. Tools exist to make starting such a page quite simple. Better than that,
many advertiser driven sites allow customers to create their own web log for free!
The word "blog" comes from the words "web" and "log". Blogging is the term that is used to identify activities
relating to a blog, such as authoring it,updating (更新) and adding information. Articles in a blog are known as
posts, and the blogger is the person who puts articles on the blog.

themselves at once. It has saved lives by getting rapid word of illness, injury, or fire from distant places. By
joining with the lift to make possible the multi-story building or office building, it has made possible-for better
or worse-the modem city. By bringing about a great leap in the speed and ease with which information moves
from place to place, it has greatly sped up the rate of scientific and technological changes and growth in
industry. Beyond doubt it has seriously weakened, if not killed, the ancient art of letter writing It has made living
alone possible for persons with normal desires; by so doing, it has played a mile in one of the greatest social
changes of this century, the breakup of the multi generational house-hold. It has made the war more efficient
than before. Perhaps though not provably (可证实), it has prevented wars that might have arisen out of
international misunderstanding caused by written communication. Or perhaps-again not probably-by
magnifying and extending irrational (非理性的) personal disagreement based on voice contact, it has caused
wars. Certainly it has extended the scope (范围) of human conflicts, since it fairly spreads the useful knowledge
of scientists and the nonsense of the ignorant (无知者), the affection of the affectionate and the malice (恶意)
of the malicious.

I think bungee jumping is a good example of such an activity. Yet jump from a high place(maybe a bridge or a hot-air balloon (气球) 200 meters above the ground with an elastic rope ( 弹力绳 ) to your ankles (踝). You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said that 2, 000, 000 people around the world have now tried bungee jump-ing. Most people think that other activities, such as jumping from the tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high rocks (岩石) are as dangerous as bungee jumping.
Why do people take part in such activities as these? Some scientists think it is because life in modern societies has become safe and boring. Now life has little excitement. They buy food in shops and there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they are ill. The answer for some of these people is to look for danger in activities as bungee jumping.
