完形填空。     How do you spend your summer holidays? Do you have a   1   or stay at home?   2   good use of the summer holidays is very important for students. When I was young, I always spent my holidays  3   the country where
my grandparents lived. The blue sky and the clean river gave me a refreshing (令人精神振作的)  4   from living
in the city.
Sometimes I went swimming or fishing and sometimes I just enjoyed   5   on the grassy field. Sometimes I
6   the villagers and had a talk with them. This   7   of village life broadened my views and strengthened my
health. The younger generation living in the city has limited living   8   and how to spend the holidays  9   a
troublesome problem.
Many children spend their holidays entirely at home in tall buildings,   10   they get up late, play electronic
11   and watch TV. They seldom think of   12   with the housework or even leaving the room. After two or
three   13   of this sort of holidays, they are   14   both in mind and body. A lack of discipline(纪律) leads them
to  15  bad habits. Holiday is not a time for students to just lie around"resting".
It is a good  16   for parents to ask their children   17   household duties. Some schools also  18   students to

As we grow up, we gradually develop a set of our own values or beliefs. These are influenced by society,
our family, the education we receive and so on. Once this value system is set up, it"s not easy to change later in
life. Financial experts say that every one also has their own belief of how to manage their money. According to
our different values, experts put us in three categories. They are: the ant, the cricket and the snail.
      The ant-works first
Just like ants who work heart and soul in summer in order to store food for winter, these people don"t care
about enjoying the moment. They work very hard and save money they earn so that they can enjoy life when
they get old and retire. The ant loves to save but they could make more out of their money if they were willing
to invest in some funds and stocks (股票) with low risk.
     The cricket (蟋蟀)-fun first
The cricket wants to enjoy everything now and doesn"t think too much about the future. They even borrow money when they really want something. Many young people now belong to this group. These people have
little savings. When they get old, they might have problems. They should learn to save and buy insurance (保
险).
The snail (蜗牛)- lives under pressure
The snail refers to people who make life difficult for themselves. They take big long-term loans (贷款) from
the bank in order to buy things such as luxury houses. They are happy to take big loans even though they are
not sure they can afford it. This can cause problems in the future. They should plan more carefully.
1. One"s values may__________.
A. be his ways of managing money
B. be his beliefs about society
C. determine his family and education
D. influence his behavior
2. Mr. Smith always enjoys spending a weekend with his friends, fishing, hunting and playing
cards. Moreover, he spends money in a very luxurious way. So, _____.
A. Mr. Smith belongs to the ant type
B. Mr. Smith belongs to the cricket type
C. Mr. Smith belongs to the snail type
D. it"s hard to tell which kind of person Mr. Smith is
3. The writer of the passage seems to be in favor of(支持) _______.
A. the ant
B. the cricket
C. the snail
D. both B and C

Fine and her fellow authorities on making small talk offer the following tips for starting-and

At Institute for the Future, game designer Jane McGonigal creates massive (大规模的) multi-player free
online role-playing games (MMORPGs), which focus on social changes and environmental problems. She
hopes that players will use their new skills to make the real world better.
According to Jane, our addiction to gaming is actually a great thing, so long as we use it properly. Speaking

completing the game, the players focused on the problem and its possible solutions. Her next game, Evoke,
takes an even more practical way. Game players are mainly young people in Africa. They will learn to create a
business that will help stop problems such as poverty and AIDS on a local level. By the end of the game,
players will be guided by experts on how to start their own businesses.
"We can make any future we imagine and we can play any games we want," she said at the TED
Conference."So let the world-changing games begin."
