阅读理解     Olaf Stapledon wrote a book called First and Last Men, in which he looked millions of years ahead.
He told of different men and of strange civilizations, broken up by long dark ages in between. In his view, what is called the present time is no more than a moment in human history and we were just the First
Men. In 2 000 million years from now there will be the Eighteenth of  "last men".
However, most of our ideas about the future are really very short-sighted. Perhaps we can see some
possibilities for the next fifty years. But the next hundred? The next million? That"s much more difficult.
When men and women lived by hunting 50 000 years ago, how could they even begin to picture
modem life? Yet to men of 50 000 years from now, we may seem as primitive(原始的) in our ideas as
the Stone Age hunters to us. Perhaps they will spend their days gollocking to make new spindles, or
struggling with their ballalators through the tribes. These words, which I have just made up, have to
stand for things and ideas that we simply can"t think of.
So why bother even to try imagining life far in the future? Here are two reasons. First, unless we
remember how short our own lives are compared with the whole human history, we are likely to think
our own interests are much more important than they really are. If we make the earth a poor place to live
on because we are careless or greedy or quarrelsome, our grandchildren will not bother to think of
excuses for us. Second, by trying to escape from present interests and imagine life far in the future, we
may arrive at quite fresh ideas that we can use ourselves. For example, if we imagine that in the future
men may give up farming, we can think of trying it now. So set your imagination free when you think
about the future.   1. The mention of Olaf Stapledon"s book in the opening paragraph       .A. serves as a description of human history
B. serves as an introduction to the discussion
C. shows a disagreement of views
D. shows the popularity of the book             2. The text discusses men and women 50 000 years ago and 50 000 years from now in order to show
that       .A. human history is extremely long
B. life has changed a great deal
C. it is useless to plan for the next 50 years
D. it is difficult to tell what will happen in the future3. Spindles and ballalators are used in the text to refer to         .A. tools used in farming
B. ideas about modem life
C. unknown things in the future
D. hunting skills in the Stone Age4. According to the writer of the text, imagining the future will          . A. be good for the interests of the present and future generations
B. enable us to better understand human history
C. help us to improte farming
D. make life worth living

阅读理解。     Every country tends to accept its own way of life as being the normal one and to praise or
criticize others,as they are similar to or different from it.And unfortunately, our picture of the
people and the way of life of other countries is often a distorted (扭曲的) one.
Here is a great argument in favor of foreign travel and learning foreign languages. It is only
by traveling in a country and getting to know its inhabitants and their language that one can
find out what a country and its people are really like. And how different the knowledge one
gains this way frequently turns out to be from the secondhand information gathered from
other sources! How often we find that the foreigners whom we thought to be such different
people from ourselves are not very different at all!
Differences between peoples do,of course, exist and,one hopes, will always continue to
do so.The world will be a dull place indeed when all the different nationalities behave exactly
alike, and some people might say that we are rapidly approaching this state of affairs. With the
much greater rapidity (快速) and ease of travel, there might seem to be some truth in this at
least as far as Europe is concerned. However this may be,at least the greater ease of travel
today has revealed (展示) to more people than ever before that the Englishman or Frenchman
or German is not:some different kind of animal from themselves.
1.Every country criticizes ways of life in other countries because they are________.A.distorted
B.normal
C.similar to each other
D.different from its own2.One who travels in a foreign country and learns its language will________.A.find out why its people are different
B.argue in favor of this country and the language
C.know the country and its people better
D.like its inhabitants and their language3.The knowledge one gains by traveling in a foreign country is often________.A.from secondhand information
B.gathered from other sources rather than its inhabitants
C.gained from the arguments about the country
D.different from what one had before the travel4.In this passage, the author wants to say________.A.differences between peoples will gradually disappear because of the ease of travel
B.differences between peoples do exist even though different nationalities behave exactly alike
C.differences between peoples will continue to exist and the world will be a dull place
D.differences between peoples will not exist as one hopes

信息匹配A. When should you go there?
B. The main transportation there
C. Who usually goes there?
D. Getting around and enjoying more
E. Why do young people go there?
F. Where is it on earth in the world?                                                                Cape Verde
     Introduction
Consisting of 10 main islands and eight smaller islets off the west coast of Africa, Cape Verde is an
archipelago with a lot to offer tourists, whether they are looking for a relaxing beach holiday, great
surfing or a hiking trip in valcanic and mountainous landscape. Sal, the main tourist island, has wonderful
sandy beaches to rival any in the world and also fantastic surfing and diving spots. With its warm climate
all year round, wonderfully dirverse landscapes, friendly locals and great food and music, Cape Verde
really is an attractive destination.
1.
With year round warmth and cold ocean currents helping to keep the temperatures from rising too
high, Cape Verde has an attractive climate for torists, and the majority of visitors are Western Europeans.
The people who go to Cape Verde for the beach life tend to be families, while it is quite a young,
adventureseeking crowed that goes there for the diving or surfing.
2.
Cape Verde is located in the Atlantic Ocean some 500 km to the west of the Afican continent. Indeed, the name itself is taken from the name of that westernmost tip, which can be found on Senegal. The
islands are divided into two groups-the Barlavento (windward islands) and the Sotavento (leeward
islands).
3.
With warm sunny days year round there really is no bad time to go to Cape Verde. Some visitors
might preder to visit in winter and spring when daytime temperatures are a couple of degrees cooler and
rarely exceed 25°C.
4.
The resorts on Sal have plenty of facilities for families and the beaches by Santa Maria are great for
kids, with their white, fine sand. On some of the islands it is possible to do a bit of bird and turtle
spotting without intruding too much on their habitats, and on Sao Vicente and Santiago it is possible to
go horse riding.
5.
On the islands public transport services are by minibuses or trucks. Taxis in central areas are cheap.
Between the islands of Santiago, Sao Vicente and Sal there are flights at least once daily. Flights to the
other islands are less frequent. TACV Cabo Verde Airlines (www.flytacv.com) is the main operator.
There are regular ferry services between the islands, but departures are sometimes unpredictable.

阅读理解     Drama and the performing arts are excellent methods of building confidence in children and adults
alike.Learning through drama allows children to explore their creativity and have fun while leaving their
shyness and worries behind.Drama also works by supporting the growth of imagination and other skills.
Entertainment has become rather passive with cinema, television, and video games. These
screenbased methods have had a negative effect on communication. However, drama puts the
"getupandgo" back into entertainment.Children have the opportunity to connect with others in a more
meaningful way as drama encourages speech development and awareness of body language, and allows
the children to become more socially aware.
Play and drama are closely linked. When children play a game, they are pretending and using their
imagination and so they are moving away from reality to create their own story.Drama is a vehicle
through which children can express themselves more freely through mime (哑剧表演), gesture,
movement, and speech to make education fun.
Children gain confidence by understanding that there is no final answer in drama and that their
opinion and contribution are valued.Children are able to give a personal response to many issues and
situations such as poverty, bullying, global warming and recycling. The issues that drama can deal with
are endless.Drama and education have a strong link as drama can encourage children to take an active
interest in other subjects such as geography, history, and English and so they can have a more rounded
education.
As a drama teacher, I have witnessed children at their first class holding onto their parents"
arms-unwilling to let go.Then to see the same child later running into my class with smiles is an excellent
sight.Drama installs confidence in children by allowing them to improvise (即兴创作) and experiment.
Everyone is given the opportunity to shine within drama.Besides learning the history of the theatre,
drama covers dance, music, and directing, etc. These classes are especially designed to be of great fun.

任务型读写。
From the beginning of human history, people have used oils from seeds and nuts. Most of the time
these oils are used as food, especially in cooking. But sometimes they have other uses. For example, oils
are used in paint and in cleaning products like soap.
Oils are separated from seeds by using pressure.A machine called a press is often used.
The first step in pressing the oil from seeds is to crush the seeds between two stones. The crushed
seeds are then put into a cloth bag and the bag is hung up.Some of the oil will flow out of the bag and
can be collected.
But some oils will remain in the crushed seeds inside the bag.The easiest way to get the rest of the oil
out is to place heavy rocks on the crushed material.
Another method is to place several cloth bags on top of each other in a box. Then a long wooden stick
is used to slowly push a heavy cover down on the bags.Great pressure is produced in this way.Much
greater pressure can be produced by using a machine, a hydraulic jack (液压千斤顶). The greater the
pressure is, the more oils will be produced.
Small presses are important in areas where electricity or gasoline cannot be used. They are also a good
way to test if a local market for oils exists.
Small batch presses can be made of local materials.Their cost is low. They are not difficult to operate.
And they are easy to repair. The small presses produce good quality oils. But the work is hard. And getting
all the oil from the seeds can be difficult.
If there is a large supply of seeds, then handoperated presses may not be enough to support a business.
Large powered presses that can operate all day are needed.
