To most of us,school means classes, teachers, schedules, grades, and tests. But for the children at Sudbury Valley School in Massachusetts, school is very different. Firstly, there are no lessons. All the children, aged between 4 and 19,do whatever they want. There are no teachers—only “staff members”.The idea behind this is that you do not need to make children learn, because children want to learn anyway.“You do not need to say to a three yearold,‘Go explore your environment."You can"t stop them!” says Daniel Greenberg,a founder of the school.“But if you make children do what you want all day, they will lose all taste for learning.” At Sudbury Valley School, you will permit children to talk, read, paint, cook, work on computers, study French, play the piano, climb trees or just run around. Two boys spent three years just fishing! The other way that Sudbury Valley School is different is that the children can decide the rules.Every week, there is a school meeting where both children and staff have one vote each—even the fouryearolds. They decide the school rules, how to spend the school budget, and even which staff they want and do not want any more. When the school first opened in 1968,people said it would never work. But today, the school has 200 students, and 80%of its students go on to college. Even the two boys who went fishing all the time have successful careers today. One of them is a musician and the other is a computer scientist. 小题1:What is the main topic of the article?A.An unusual school. | B.Children"s hobbies. | C.A school without rules. | D.Education in the US. | 小题2:What does the school believe?A.Teachers cannot teach children Well. | B.Children learn best when they do what they want to do. | C.Learning is for adults—children should only play. | D.Children should only learn about one thing at a time. | 小题3:What does Daniel Greenberg say about threeyearolds?A.They love learning. | B.They are very naughty. | C.They want to be outside all the time. | D.They are too young to learn anything. | 小题4:Who has the most power in the school meetings?A.The older children have more power than the younger children. | B.A child has more power than an adult. | C.The younger children have more power than the older children. | D.Everybody has equal power. |

Sure,it"s good to get along well with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant. And yes,it"s good to get along well with your teacher because,in general,it"s smart to learn how to get along well with the different types of people you"ll meet throughout your life. In fact, kids who get along well with their teachers not only learn more, but they"re more comfortable about asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier for them to understand new materials and do their best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher,he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school issues. Urban citizens(市民)can enjoy a more colorful life than rural citizens.Townspeople are wellinformed because they have the easier access to news, while country people are uniformed because these districts are hard to get to.Urban traffic is so welldeveloped that the residents there often visit exhibitions and parks which are only a short bus ride away. For country people this is a major operation which involves considerable planning.Shopping,a necessary activity in everyday life is more convenient in the city than in the countryside. Townspeople can buy what they want at any time of a day.But rural residents go to town at most once a week.So after shopping they always stagger home loaded with heavy purchases. As for as meals and clothes concerned, townspeople are wellfed and welldressed as there is an adequate(足够的)supply of goods. But rural residents are too busy to pay particular attention to them.It is for these reasons that more and more people are moving into the city and looking for a rest there. On the contrary, some people are attracted by the rural area.Air pollution, noise and overcrowding which are the biggest problems confronting townspeople seem strange for rural residents.Medical studies have proved that rural residents can live longer than urban residents, because they are free from a polluted environment. In addition, the crime rate in the city is several times higher than in the countryside. As is known to all,the life in any city is much more expensive than in the countryside. So the safe, quiet and cheap life in the country appeals to(对……有吸引力)many city residents. Either an urban or a rural area gives pleasure and trouble. But,I believe, the suburban area has the excellencies(优点)of both and is superior to both.As the automobile industry develops, more and more people will make their homes in suburban areas. 小题1:When visiting an exhibition in town, country people have to ________.A.listen to local news | B.take a bus | C.make a careful plan | D.ask friends for help | 小题2:Paragraph 1 mainly tells us the differences between urban and rural life in ________.A.communication,traffic and shopping | B.traffic, shopping and diet | C.education, living conditions and housing | D.traffic, medicine and shopping | 小题3:According to the passage, rural people are not as welldressed as urban citizens mainly because________.A.they live far away from town | B.they live a poorer life | C.they are busy with their work | D.they don"t like to dress up | 小题4: For rural residents, the problems the urban citizens facing are________.A.common | B.unfamiliar | C.wellknown | D.unimportant |

On October 12,1989,some British scientists were working at the computers to look for the information they needed.Suddenly they saw a lot of very bright points crossing the computer screens. At the same time the computers were working much slower. To find out what was happening they stopped their work to check some parts of the computers. To their horror, they found out that most of their stored information was got rid of by computer viruses(病毒)!Clearly all these computers had been infected by computer viruses. It is said that the computer viruses were made by a group of young men fond of playing tricks. They all had excellent education. They created the viruses just to show their intelligence. We now come to know that Jerusalem Viruses often attack computers on Friday and that they are spreading(传播)to a lot of computers.Among the countries that were attacked by computer viruses last year are Britain,Australia,Switzerland and the U.S.But till now,how to get rid of the terrible viruses remains a problem. 小题1:When the viruses attack the computers, the computers will work________.A.normally | B.slowly | C.faster | D.well | 小题2:The group of young men created the viruses to________.A.damage the computers | B.test their ability | C.tell people that they were intelligent | D.play a trick on users of the computers | 小题3:According to the passage, computer viruses seem to ________.A.have been in nature for years | B.stay in any computers | C.be difficult to get rid of at present | D.be able to be got rid of in the near future | 小题4:According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?A.Last year six countries found their computers were infected by viruses. | B.The viruses will come to a new computer after staying in the old one for some time. | C.Scientists are trying to find a way to get rid of the viruses. | D.The Jerusalem Viruses are dangerous to human health. |
