morning he would look in his garden and pick up his hen"s egg for breakfast. One morning he looked into
his garden and saw that the hen had laid an egg in the Englishman"s garden.
He was about to go next door when he saw the English-man pick up the egg. The Scotsman ran up
to the English-man and told him that the egg belonged to him because he owned the hen. The Englishman
disagreed because the egg was on his property (财产).
They argued for a while until finally the Scotsman said, "In my family we normally settle disputes (争
议) by the following actions: We kick each other and we compare the time how long it takes us to get
back up. Whoever gets up quicker wins the egg."
The Englishman agreed to this, so the Scotsman found his heaviest pair of boots (皮靴) and put them
on. He took a few steps back, then ran toward the Englishman and kicked as hard as he could in his
stomach.
The Englishman fell to the floor, holding his stomach and howling (嚎叫) in pain for 10 minutes.

But because of many people, lots of things are easy to be out of order, and sometimes it’s also
easy to lose your cool. Today was a day I wish I did not get out of bed. I mean that if I did not
have to wake up and deal with all the things that I deal with on a daily basis, it would have been
wonderful.
I had a cup of coffee this morning and that was my meal for breakfast, not healthy I know.
Anyway, my stomach was sounding like a truck. So, I jumped in my car and decided to buy
some food.
I was in line at Taco Bell (一家墨西哥速食店) and the line was like a long snake! Finally I
got to place my order, but a young girl in nice clothes pulled in and was stuck in such a way that
unless I moved for her, she wouldn’t be able to get out. So I backed up and waved her into my
place in the front of the line.
To my surprise, this young girl did not say thanks. I was cool with it because I thought that I
had done something nice for a change. After the girl received her food and pulled away, I pulled
into the ordering spot, not mad, but hungry, and the employee said, “Hi, that girl just paid for your
food.”
That food was the most satisfying nourishment (营养品) my body had ever taken! If just by
chance you are that person who bought my food, I should say “Thank you!”

examined. The driver was so 5 that we arrived there very quickly. After that, my 6 didn"t stop
helping me though I told her I could do things on my own.
So many blessings (幸事) I had never 7 came to me when I was alone and helpless. Bus drivers

Autumn is a 3 season and life is uninteresting. The free days always get me 4 . But one day, the
sound of a violin 5 into my ears like a stream flowing in the mountains. I was so surprised that I
jumped to see what it was. A young girl, standing in the wind, was 6 in playing her violin.
I had 7 seen her before. The music was so attractive that I listened quietly. Lost in the music, I
didn"t realize that I had been 8 there for so long but my 9 did not seem to disturb (打扰) her.
Leaves were still falling. Every day she played the violin in the corner of the building
10 I went downstairs to watch her performance. I was the only audience (观众). The autumn
seemed no longer lonely and life became 11 . 12 we didn"t know each other, I thought we were
already good friends. I believed she also liked me.
Autumn was nearly over. One day, when I was listening devotedly (专心地), the sound suddenly
stopped. To my 13 the girl came over to me.
"You must like violin," she said.
"Yes. And you play very well. Why did you stop?" I asked.
Suddenly, a 14 expression appeared on her face and I could feel something unusual.
"I came here to see my grandmother, but now I must leave. I once played very badly. It was your
listening every day that 15 me. " she said.
"In fact, it was your playing 16 gave me a meaningful autumn." I answered. "Let us be friends."
The girl smiled and I smiled.
I never heard her play again in my life. I no longer went downstairs to listen like before. Only thick
leaves were left behind. But I will always remember the fine figure (倩影) of the girl. She is like a 17 ;
so short, so bright, like a shooting star giving off so much light that it makes the autumn beautiful.
There are many kinds of friends. Some are always 18 you, but don"t understand you. Some say
only a few words to you, but are close to you. Many people will step in your life, but only 19 friends
leave footprints (足迹).
I shall always recall (回忆) the autumn and the girl with the 20 . She will always bring back the
friendship between us. I know she will always be my best friend.
