Baby survives after train hits pram
The CCTV footage (片段)shows a baby’s pram (婴儿车)rolling off a train platform as the mother makes a mad rush to save her son, 48 she is too late and it falls 49 the rails in front of an incoming train. This heart-stopping scene happened yesterday at Ashburton station in Melbourne, Australia. But the story has a 50 ending: the six-month-old baby survived with just 51 cut on his forehead, although the pram was dragged about 35 meters by the braking train. The nurse Jon Wright said the boy just “needed a feed and a sleep”.
“Luckily, he was strapped (绑) into his pram at the time, which probably saved 52 life. I think the child is extremely 53 ,” Wright told the Herald Sun newspaper after the baby was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The footage shows the mother taking her hands off the three-wheeled pram, which begins to roll 54 the platform edge.
The driver put on the brakes 55 he saw the pram fall in front of him and fortunately the train was already slowing down to stop at the station. Rail firm Connex is to look into how the pram rolled off the platform. The accident came one day after Connex started a child safety awareness campaign warning parents to keep babies strapped into their prams at all times while on platforms.
PART FOUR WRITING
SECTION A
Directions: Read the following passage. Complete the diagram by using the information from the passage.
Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.
Society is a web of relationships, requiring all parties(群体) to work together to create something good. What makes society work best are effective(有效的) relationships that are based on mutual(相互的) understanding. If you understand what people want and why they want it, you can usually find a way to make progress together.
High-quality relationships make people happy. Some people living in the poorest communities have almost nothing but turn out to be the happiest because they share a life together. If effective relationships are working, happiness is always possible.
Here are some simple tips for building effective relationships.
Listen to and try to understand others’ positions and feelings. Listening in itself can lead to understanding, and if you understand someone else fully, then you know how to work better with him or her.
Openly express your needs and feelings. Sometimes we expect people—particularly those close to us at home or work—to understand what we want and to give us what we need intuitively(凭直觉地). However, people are so complicated and so different that even when they have lived together for 60 years, they can still surprise each other. So we need to say what we need and to express how we feel.
In order to make our relationships more effective, we should treat ourselves and other people with respect. Respect is one of the most important elements of any good relationship.
Finally, learn to face differences correctly. Learning this takes time and can be uncomfortable. However, if we can try to remove differences in an effective way, we are more likely to build exciting and satisfying relationships with others.
By doing these things you may discover that the happiness you long for is much closer than you thought.
第一节阅读填空。阅读下面短文,根据短文内容在下表格空白处填上适当的词,每空不超过三个单词(共10个小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
Different countries and different races have different manners. Before entering a house in some Asian country, it is good manners to take off your shoes. In European countries even though shoes sometimes become very muddy, this is not done. A guest in a Chinese house sometimes does not finish a drink. He leaves a little to show that he has had enough. In a Malay house, too, a guest always leaves a little food. In England, a guest always finishes a drink to show that he enjoys it.
Here are some examples of the things that a well-mannered person does or does not do.
He never laughs at people when they are in trouble. He is always kind either to people or animals. When people are waiting for a bus, or in a post office he lines up to wait his turn. In the bus, he gives his seat to an older person or a lady who is standing. If he accidentally bumps (撞) into someone, or gets in their way, he says “Excuse me” or “ I’m sorry”.
He stands up when speaking to a lady or an older person, and he does not sit down until the other person is seated. He does not talk too much about himself. When eating he does not speak with his mouth full of food.
Bad manners | Good manners
When speaking to a lady or an older person | 76 before the other person is seated. 77 about yourself. | In some 80 countries | Take off your shoes before entering a house. |
In a Chinese or a 81 house | 82 a little drink to show that you have had enough.

When 78 | Speak with your mouth 79 . | When in a bus | Give your seat to an old person or a lady who is standing. |
If bumping into someone 85 or getting into his way | Say sorry. |
