Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage and required words limit. Write your answers on your answer sheet.
A 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a terrible car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was doing well, so he couldn"t understand why, after three months of training, the master had taught him only one move. "Sensei," the boy finally said, "shouldn"t I be learning more moves?" "This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you"ll ever need to know," the sensei replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training.
Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first tournament.
Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals.
This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the referee called a timeout. He was about to stop the match when the sensei intervened.
"No," the sensei insisted, "let him continue." Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a big mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy had won the match and the tournament. He was the champion.
On the way home, the boy and sensei reviewed every move in each and every match.
Then the boy gathered the courage to ask what was really on his mind. "Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?" You won for two reasons," the sensei answered. "First, you"ve almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. Second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm."

A 14-year-old girl was attacked by a grey bear while competing in a bike race. She managed to whisper the “bear” to her rescuer. The girl had serious head, neck and leg wounds. Now she is in a dangerous condition in hospital.
The girl was taking part in a 24-hour race through Bicentennial Park in Alaska when she was attacked by the bear. Bicentennial Park is next to Chugach State Park where some wild animals live.
The animal attacked the girl in a heavily wooded area at about 1:30 am. The girl called emergency services but she was unable to say any word. Another rider Peter Basinger found her lying unconscious on the ground. He told Anchorage Daily News that she managed to say the word “bear” when he stopped to help. Her helmet (头盔)had been knocked off in the attack and rolled into the woods. Mr Basinger waited with the girl for about 20 minutes until doctors arrived. Armed police travelled 3 km with doctors to pick up the girl.
Animal expert Rick Sinnot said something must be done as soon as possible to prevent the bear from attacking people again. “It was extremely terrifying,” he said.
Mr Sinnot told Anchorage Daily News that the bear might be a mother. It hurt two runners on a nearby path two weeks ago. He also said that the girl was lucky to have been wearing a bike helmet because the bear had bitten her head several times.

Ashley Power’s mother bought a computer for her when she was eight. When she was thirteen, she was surfing the Internet regularly, but she couldn’t find anywhere for teenagers to meet and talk. And one day she thought, “If I had my own website, I’d make it a really interesting site for teenagers.”
So, when Ashley was sixteen, she launched her own website, called GooseHead. She had no idea how big a success it would be, but three years later, the site was the most successful teen site in the USA! It was getting 100,000 hits every day, and Ashley had about 30 employees.
After a few years, the website closed down. Then Ashley, who lives in Los Angeles, was asked to write a book called The GooseHead Guide to Life. [1]  Alice Munro wins the 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first Canadian woman to take the award since it was founded in 1901.
[2] Munro,82, only the 13th woman given the award, was praised by the Swedish Academy during the Nobel announcement in Stockholm as the "master of the contemporary short story. " "We"re not saying just that she can say a lot in just 20 pages---more than an average novel writer can---but also that she can cover ground. She can have a single short story that covers decades, and it works, " said Peter Englund, permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy.
[ 3] Munro said she always viewed her chances of winning the Nobel as " one of those pipe dreams" that "might happen, but it probably wouldn"t. " Munro"s daughter woke her up to tell her the news. "It just seems impossible. A splendid thing to happen…More than I can say, " she said, overcome with emotion. " My stories have gotten around quite remarkably for short stories. I would really hope that this would make people see the short story as an important art, not something you play around with until you got a novel written. "
[4] Born in Ontario in 193I,Alice Anne Laidlaw studied journalism at the University of  Western Ontario in London before dropping out to marry James Munro, a fellow student. She  became a full-time housewife and mother of their children. She then moved to Victoria with her  first husband and later returned to Ontario following their divorce. She married Fremlin in 1976.
[5] Three years ago, in an interview at Toronto"s  International  Festival  of Authors, Munro said she had battled cancer, but did not provide specifics. In June, she told the National Post she was "probably not going to write anymore. " Asked on Thursday whether she would reconsider that statement, Munro said______, " because I am getting rather old. For many the idea of your dream home is not buying a bigger home, but a home that you have built by yourself. A house that is unique and fit for your tastes and your lifestyle. It sounds great but where do you begin to design your dream home? Here is a quick guide that can help you make your dreams come true.
The first step is to get an idea of what type of home you want. You can get inspiration from others. Drive around to neighbourhoods that have the styles of homes you like and take pictures. You can also cut out pictures from magazines, newspapers, or print out pictures you find on the Internet.
The next step will be to make two lists of items for yourself. The first list will be those items or features that you feel your new home must have, such as granite counter tops or a hot water heater. The second list will be those items or features that are on your wish list like a fireplace or slate floors.
At this point you will probably have a good idea of what your dream home will look like, so you will need to seek some professional help. You will need to hire an architect to put your ideas down on paper. You may need to interview a few different architects to find one that you are comfortable with. Make sure whomever you choose for final drawings has a full understanding of local building codes and zoning bylaws. In any ease your final plan will need to be approved by the city and a building permit must be obtained before any construction can begin.
It is time to look for a contractor(承包人). Whichever way you can do it in, be sure you are comfortable with your contractor and you have got references from his past clients. Remember the more homework you do in the beginning, the more enjoyable the process will be.

Much meaning can be conveyed, clearly with our eyes, sop it is often said that eyes can speak.
Do you have such a kind of experience? In a bus you may loom at a stranger, but not too long. And if he is sensing that he is being stared at, he may feel uncomfortable.
The same in daily life. If you are looked at for more than necessary, you may look at yourself up and down, to see if there is         ..If nothing goes wrong, you will fell angry towards others" stare at you that way. Eyes do speak, right?
Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex. If a man glances at a woman for more than 10seconds and refuses to avert his gaze, his intentions are obvious, that is ,he wishes to attract her attention, to make her understand that he is admiring her.
However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at  the listener from time to time, in order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is saying, to tell him that he is attentive.
If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, as if he tries to dominate you, you will feel disconcerted. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the honest communication, quite the contrary.
In fact, continuous eye contact is confined to lovers only, who will enjoy looking at each other tenderly for a long time, to show affection that words can"t express.
Evidently, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and the specific situation.
