阅读理解。    Dragon-Boat Festival is also called the Duanwu Fes-tival. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth
monthaccording to the Chinese calendar. People hold the drag-on-boat races to remember Qu Yuan,
one of the greatestpoets in China. Now we read his poem Li Sao which wasfilled with deep love for his
country.    
    Qu Yuan was borm in Zigui of Hubei Province over2,200 years ago. Qu Yuan was an honest ministry
of theState Chu, during the Warring States period ( 475-22IBC). He tried to make the country stronger,
but hefailed because some bad officials were against him strongly. At last, he was very disappointed. He
ended his life by throwing himself into the Mi Luo River. It was said that people jumped down from boats
to try to save him at that time. But it was too late. In order to keep the hungry fish away from his body,
people threw rice into the river.    
    We can watch the dragon-Boat race and eat a kind of Chinese food named Zongzi during the Dragon

阅读理解。     Beijing Opera is also called Peking Opera. It came into being after 1790 when the famous four Anhui
opera troupes(戏班) came to Beijing. Its music and singing(唱腔) come from Xipi and Erhuang in Anhui
and Hubei. Its costumes are all fascinating and artistic. It is the highest expression of the Chinese culture.
It"s full of famous stories, beautiful facial paintings, and wonderful gestures and fighting. This kind of opera

       Stories in Beijing Opera are very interesting. Some of them are from the history book, but most of
them are from the literature, especially famous novels. The people in the story usually have some
disagreements. They become angry and unhappy. They are sad and lonely. Sometimes they are nervous
and worried. Then they find a way to make peace. The stories usually end with happiness and laughter

阅读理解       1932   Liu Changchun ( 1901-1983 ) joined the 10th Olympic Games in Los Angeles, US. He is
the first Chinese to attend Olympics. He took part in the l00m and 200m race.
       1952   The People"s Republic (共和围) of China sent its first delegation to the 15th Olympics in
