Memory is our ability to learn something, save it and recall it when needed. Our memories are important to our sense of self, our personalities, and our ability to understand the world.
Scientists say that there are different types of memory. There is short-term memory and long-term memory. Your short-term memory saves information for a few seconds or a few minutes. For example, the time it takes to compare the prices of a few items in a store. Long-term memory involves the information you try hard to keep, because it’s meaningful to you (an example is data 数据 about family and friends. ) And then there is visual memory and sound memory. But these are not hard and fast: scientists argue a lot about the nature of memory.
Scientists have also found that people memorize things in different ways. Some memorize better with the help of pictures. Others are helped more by sounds. One thing’s for sure. If you can combine different kinds of memory together, you will remember a lot! So why not try pictures with English words? At the same time listen to recordings of the same group of words. It may help when it comes to memorizing it.
Imagination and association can be useful too. By imagination scientists mean picturing a word in your mind. Association means relating the word to something you already know.

Scientists have proved that chimps perform better than human beings when it comes to this kind of problem.“科学家已经证实在某一特定的问题上黑猩猩比人类表现的好。”
There is short-term memory and long-term memory. And then there is visual memory and sound memory.
So why not try pictures with English words? At the same time listen to recordings of the same group of words.“为什么不尝试利用图片记忆英语单词呢?同时听同一组单词的录音。”故选D。
小题4:细节理解题。根据第二段第一行Memory is our ability to learn something. Long-term memory involves the information you try hard to keep,可知B正确;根据第三段最后一句话scientists argue a lot about the nature of memory. By imagination scientists mean picturing a word in your mind. Association means relating the word to something you already know.

Paul lay down-on the ice to get a better photo, but the polar bear jumped out of the water and tried to attack him! Luckily for Paul, the ice cracked or broke and the bear fell back into the water The polar bear wasn’t so lucky. It couldn’t get a meal and had to swim farther away to find food.
To understand the polar bear’s problem, you need to know two things about the Arctic. First, the Arctic is mostly ocean. Second , ice cover a lot of the Arctic Ocean. In winter, the ice form a thick, white sheet, but in summer, the ice becomes thinner and break into pieces. Sea ice is the key to survival for Arctic animals. However, because of global warming, Arctic temperatures are rising and polar ice is melting.
Polar bears need ice to hunt seals, their favourite meal. They stand on the ice wait for the seal to come up for air. As Arctic ice melts, polar bears have to swim farther to find ice floes, or large pieces of floating ice. Sometimes, bears have to swim more than 200 km to find an ice floe. Some bears cannot swim that far and sadly they drown.
On his last trip, Paul Nicklen saw three dead bodies of polar bears. Before global warming threatened Arctic ice, a dead bear was a rare sight, Paul is sad to see the dead bodies, wildlife experts thinks global warming will have a terrible effect on polar bears. In the future, polar ice will continue to shrink and endanger the bear. Some scientists believe 65 percent of the world’s polar bears will disappear by 2050. in other word, polar bears are in great danger.

Polluted air from cars, planes and factories is so thick that it is like a quilt(被子) over a city. This kind of quilt is called smog(烟雾). Many countries are making rules to fight pollution. Factories must now clean their water before it is thrown away. And they mustn’t blow dirty smoke into the air. We need to do many other things. We can put waste things in the dustbin and not throw it on the ground. We can go to work by bus or with our friends in the same car. If there are fewer people driving, there will be less pollution.

The Chinese Medical Doctor Association asked 8,200 people in China about their sleep. More than 36.3 percent of them said they often sleep badly. The study also finds that many students have only 5 hours of sleep a day. According to the US National Sleep Foundation, teenagers need 8.5 to 9 hours of sleep every night. What cuts into their sleeping time? Homework. Also, school starts early in the morning.
But bad sleeping habits also play a role. Do you like to have a look at your mobile phone before going to bed? The survey finds that 60 percent of people check their phones before they sleep. They read news, check their WeChat (微信) or chat with QQ friends.
It’s important for us to get enough sleep. We feel tired and think slowly. Besides, sleepy kids are often unhappy, says a study by the US National Sleep Foundation.
We can’t change our school time. But there are still ways to get better sleep. Stay away from coke, coffee and tea at night. They make it hard to fall asleep. Watch less television. Leave your mobile phone and tablet computer (平板电脑) on your desk.
