阅读理解。      Life in the 21st century, will be different from life in the 20th century,  because many changes
will take place in the new century.  But what will the changes be?
The population is growing fast. There will be more and more people in the world and most of them
will live longer than before. Computers will be much smaller and more useful,  and there will be at least

will go to other countries for holidays.
There will be changes in our food,  too.  More land will be used for buildings,  new towns and
houses.  Then there will be less room for cows and sheep,  so meat will be more expensive.  Maybe
no one will eat it every day.  Instead, they eat more vegetables and fruit.  Maybe people will be
healthier.
Work in the future will be different,  too.  Dangerous and hard work will be done by robots
(机器人).  Because of this,  many people will not have enough work to do.  This will be a new
problem. . 1. People may not have as much ______ as they did in the 20th century.              A. fruit
B. milk
C. bread

阅读理解。     Lots of people like diving into water because they can explore (探索) the underwater world.
But there is another kind of diving.  Some people dive into the sky! This is really a very exciting sport.
A skydiver goes high up in the air on a plane, jumps off the plane and floats in the air with the help of a
parachute.  A parachute is like a huge umbrella.  It is put on the back of the skydiver.  When the
skydiver reaches a certain height, he will pull a string and the parachute will open up in seconds and
carry him gently down to the ground.  Skydivers like doing a lot of dramatic tricks in the air.  After
jumping off the plane one after another, they will try to stay in the air and hold each other"s hands.
They can form different shapes.
Is it safe to do skydiving? Yes,  as long as we receive right training. But sometimes, accidents do
happen. In Canada, two skydivers were killed in 1991 when they jumped off the plane.  Because their
parachutes got tied up with each other.  The parachutes could not open up and both crashed down and
died.1.  Why do people like diving into water?

You speak, write a letter, or make a telephone. Your words carry a message. People communicate
with words. Do you think you can communicate without words? A smile on your face shows you are
happy or friendly. Tears in your eyes tell others that you are sad.
When you put up your hands in class, the teacher knows you want to say something or ask questions.
You shake your head , and people know you are saying"No". You nod and people know you are saying "Yes". Other things can also carry messages. For example, a sign at the bus helps you to know which
bus to take. A sign on the door helps you to know where to go in or out. Have you ever thought that
there are a lot of signs around you and that you receive messages from them all the time? People can
communicate in many other ways. An artist can use his drawing to tell beautiful mountains , about the
blue sea and many other things. Books are written to tell about all the wonderful things in the world and
also about people and their ideas. Books , magazines , TV, radio and films all help us communicate with
others. They can help us to know what is going on in the world and what other people are thinking about.

Dear sir,
I am writing to introduce myself, with the hope of getting the job you advertised in Daily News.
When I was a child, I was fond of English and always got good grades. In1994, after six years of hard
work in Beijing No.4 Middle School, I entered People"s University. I studied English there for four years.
Luckily, I got my first job when I graduated. I taught English in Beijing No.4 Middle School from 1998
to 2001. Then I got the chance to receive further education in University of Hawaii in the US. That was a
precious experience of my life. I learnt a lot during those two years, especially the differences between
eastern and western cultures.
I came back to People"s University in 2003. I worked as an assistant (助手) for 2 years and then as
a professor. So far I have got 8 years of working experience.
I won lots of awards. I was an"Excellent Student" of People"s University in 1997, and an "Outstanding
Teacher" of Beijing No.4 middle school in 2000.
Thank you for reading my letter, and I will appreciate it very much if you can reply soon.
Yours sincerely,
Wang Gang
