阅读理解。     For a foreigner, if he can"t speak Chinese, it"s hard for him to order food in a restaurant in China. The
easiest way is to point at the dishes on their menu. But in some small restaurants, they don"t have an English menu, more restaurants may have pictured menus to give you an idea of what you"re ordering.
Another good way is to look at what the next table is eating. This will give you a clear picture of what
the dishes really are.
The third way is to ask their staff to recommend dishes to you.  But you might end up with something
you wouldn"t want to eat, like frogs or animals kidneys. At this time, a phrasebook is always helpful. Ask
them to point out the ingredients of the dishes on your phrasebook.
根据短文内容,判断句子的正 (T)误(F)。 (     )1.  The writer offers some ways to people who can"t speak Chinese.
(     )2.  It is the most difficult way to point at the dishes on the menu in a restaurant.
(     )3.  In the restaurant, you can only ask the boss help.

Visitors to Britain are always complaining about English food. But they do not really know what they
are talking about because they rarely get a chance to eat it. Most of the restaurants in large towns have
foreign owners and serve foreign food. When visitors are invited to eat in an English home, their hosts
often feel they must offer them something foreign and exotic (奇特的) .
Those of us who do know English food realize that at its best it can be really very good. On the other
hand it is true to say that it is sometimes terrible. Part of the problem is that we are not really interested in
food-we eat to live, we don"t live to eat. So we don"t generally spend necessary time and effort needed
to cook really good meals or ready prepared food which only needs heating up before eating.
You can find the best English food in the country away from large towns, where life is slower and
people are not in such a hurry. But more visitors come to London because they are interested in shopping and sightseeing. They do not come because of food, so why should they complain about it?
1. Visitors to Britain are always complaining about English food because _____.
A. they don"t often eat English food
B. they know little about English food
C. they only eat English food in English home
2. When English people have guests they prefer to ____  .
A. cook some unusual food
B. offer them some prepared food
C. serve them food they are used to
3. Which of the following statements is right?
A. People don"t want to spend time and effort in cooking.
B. People like to cook in a quick easy way.
C. English food is neither good nor terrible.
4. Visitors can find the best English food _____ .
A. in the restaurants in large towns
B. in the country
C. in English homes
5. The conclusion suggests _____.
A. visitors have the rights to complain about English
B. as well as food people come to shopping and sightseeing
C. the criticism (批评) of English food is unfair

Around the world more and more people are taking part in dangerous sports and activities. Of
course there have always been people who have looked for adventure (冒险) and those who have
climbed the highest mountains or explored unknown parts of the world. Now, however, there are
people who look for a quick pleasure from a dangerous activity, which may only last a few minutes or
even seconds.
I think bungee jumping is a good example of such an activity. You jump from a high place (maybe a
bridge or a hot-air balloon) 200 meters above the ground with an elastic rope (弹力绳) to your ankles (踝). You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said
that 2, 000, 000 people around the world have now tried bungee jumping. Most people think that other
activities, such as jumping from the tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of high rocks are as
dangerous as bungee jumping.
Why do people take part in such activities? Some scientists think it is because life in modern
societies has become safe and boring. Now life has little excitement. They buy food in shops and there
are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they are ill. The answer for some of these people is to
look for danger in activities as bungee jumping.
1. How many people have now tried bungee jumping?
A. Two hundred.
B. Two thousand.
C. Two million.
2. People take part in dangerous sports because              .
A. people want to get excitement from them
B. they have more free time
C. they hate adventure
3. Which of the following descriptions about bungee jumping is right?
A. It"s very boring.
B. It"s much easier to do.
C. It takes much shorter time to get pleasure.
4. The writer of this passage          .
A. is a lover of dangerous activities himself
B. is against dangerous activities
C. doesn"t say whether dangerous activities are good or bad
5. Which of the following pictures shows the right way of bungee jumping?
