He was Matthew. 2 he was born, the doctor told his parents that he would not live to see five, then they were told 3 would not make it to ten. Now he was thirteen. He wanted to meet me because I was a gold-medal weight lifter.
I spent over an hour talking to Matthew. He spoke about 4 and succeeding and seeking(追寻)his dreams.
When we finished talking, I went to my 5 and pulled out the first gold medal I won and put it around his neck. I told him he was more of a winner and knew more about 6 and overcoming obstacles(克服障碍)than I ever would. He looked at it for a while, then took it off and handed it 7 to me. He said, “You are a champion. You earned that medal. Someday when I get to the Olympics and win my own medal, I will show it to you.”
Last summer I got the news that Matthew had 8 and a letter Matthew had written to me a few days before:
Dear Rick,
My mom said I should send you a thank-you letter. The doctors are 9 to tell me that I don"t have long to live any more. But I still smile as much as I can.
I told you that in the future I was going to the Olympics and win a gold medal. But I know now I"ll 10 . I know I"m a champion, and God knows that too. When I get to Heaven, God will give me my medal and when you get there, I will show it to you.
Thank you for loving me.
Your friend
Matthew

The huge building has not changed much since it opened in February, 1913. About 750,000 people pass through Grand Central every day. Some just come to look at it, others to visit the stores. But most are there to catch the trains that enter and leave from the station. It is the largest train station in the world. There are 67 train tracks, all of them underground.

“Who did this?” asked my teacher. Thirty children tried to think about not only what they had done, but also what our teacher might have found out.
“Who did this?” she asked again. She never became angry, but she was this time. She held up a piece of broken glass and asked, “Who broke this window?”
“Oh, oh,” I thought. I was the one who broke the window. I did not do it on purpose (故意). It was caused by a bad throw of a baseball. Why did it have to be me?
If I admitted (承认) it, I would be in a lot of trouble. How would I be able to pay for a big window like that? “My father is going to get angry at me,” I thought. I didn’t want to raise (举起) my hand, but something much stronger than me pulled it up.
“I did it,” I said. Then I was silent. It was hard enough saying what I had.
My teacher went to one of our bookshelves and took down a book. She then began walking towards my desk. I had never known my teacher to strike (打) a student, but I feared she was going to start with me.
“I know how you like birds,” she said as she stood looking down at my face. “Here is the field guide about birds (鸟类野外指南) that you always check out from our school library. It is yours now. We have got a new one for the school. You will not be punished (惩罚). But remember, it’s only for your honesty.”
