阅读理解。     Doctor Seuss was born in 1904. By the middle 1950s,he had become one of the best-loved and
 most successful children"s book writers in the world. His books are very popular with young readers. 
They enjoy the invented words and the pictures of unusual funny animals and plants.   
      In 1954, Life magazine published (刊登) a report about school children who could not read. The 
report said many children"s books were not interesting. Doctor Seuss strongly hoped to help children
 and decided to write books that were interesting and easy to read. He used words with the same ending 
sound, like fish and wish. He did not receive training in art. Yet, he drew the pictures for most of his 
books.    
     In 1957, Dr.Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat. He used less than 230 words to write the book and even a six-year-old should be able to read it.lt was a fun story and easy to read. Children loved it. Their 
parents loved it, too. Today it is still one of the stories they like best. The success of The Cat in the Hat 
made him want to write more books for children .In 1960,hc wrote a book using less than fifty words. 
The book is called Green Eggs and Ham.    In 1984,Doctor Seuss won a Pulitzer Prize (普利策奖). 
He was honored for the education and enjoyment his books provided American children and their parents.    He died at the age of 87,but his influence remains. Millions of his books have been sold world-wide. 
People say his books helped change the way American children learned to read. Yet ,his books are

    Dou Kou was born in Jiangsu Province in 1994. When he was 7 months old, his parents started

     Guess who is the most successful young writer in China? It is 24-year-old Guo Jingming, who
earned $ 1.4 million last year, according to the Ne.7u York Times.
     Guo started his writing career in high school when he won first prize in a national writing contest
in 2001. His first book, City of Fantasy, came out soon after the contest and went on to sell more than

    Almost all Guo"s novels include a shy hero who gets good grades. He mostly writes about the sad
feelings of his young characters. These teenagers deal with loneliness by sitting alone for long hours

     The famous scientist and thinker, Charles Darwin, was born on February 12, 1809. As a boy,
Charles liked to go for walks in the fields and forests, watching nature, and comparing what he saw
with everything he had read in science books. He also liked collecting very much. He collected many
things: birds, stones, and leaves.
     At sixteen Darwin was sent to Edinburgh University to become a doctor. But he was interested
in the history of nature.
     Then he was sent to study at Cambridge University. There he studied until 1831.
     Some time later he heard that the ship Beagle was going on a trip to South America and wanted a
scientist. His professor advised him to go. So when the Beagle left England in December 1831, Darwin
was on it.

understood that plants and animals are not always the same, and that they really change. By 1859
