举一反三
Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, "Happiness depends upon ourselves." In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future, for example, getting into college or getting a good job -that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life"s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.
Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people experience this dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity. Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

Once upon a time, there was a spider with the name Anansi. He knew that he was very clever but he also knew he wasn’t wise(英明的). He didn’t like this, but he did not know what to do. One day he had an idea. He went around the village with a basket ban asked each person to give him some of their wisdom(智慧). Last July, my 12-year-old car died on California"s Santa Ana Freeway. It was an hour before sunset, and I was 25 miles from home. I couldn"t reach anyone to pick me up, so I decided to take a bus. Not knowing the routes, I figured I"d just head east. A bus pulled up, and I asked the driver how far she was going. “Four more lights,” she said. There was another bus I could take from there. This clearly was going to be a long night. She dropped me off at the end of her route and told me which bus to look for.
After waiting 30 minutes, I began to think about a very expensive taxi ride home. Then a bus pulled up. There was no lighted number above its windshield (挡风玻璃). It was out of service. But the door opened, and I was surprised to find that it was the same driver. “I just can"t leave you here,” she said. “This isn"t the nicest place. I"ll give you a ride home.” “You"ll drive me home in the bus?” I asked, perplexed (困惑). “No, I"ll take you in my car,” she said. “It"s a long way,” I protested. “Come on, ” she said. “I have nothing else to do.”
As we drove from the station in her car, she began telling me a story. A few days earlier, her brother had run out of gas. A good Samaritan picked him up, took him to a service station and then back to his car. “I"m just passing the favor along, ” she said.
