核心考点
试题【完形填空。 We always want what we cannot have. When we"re young, we want to stay 】;主要考察你对题材分类等知识点的理解。[详细]
举一反三
You just have to keep in mind that a setback is only temporary and greater things lie ahead. Therefore, keep
moving forward, developing what you have, since you"ve already built a solid foundation on which you can
rely.
It is easy just to quit, give up and ignore the hard work you have put into something. But we believe in
the"two steps forward, one step back"philosophy(哲学).So how can you react when something doesn"t
turn out as you"ve expected it to be?
First,be objective.Step back and look at the situation. Is your setback really that significant,or will it just
require a little extra effort? Then, plan your next move. You can ask for help.Don"t be afraid or ashamed to
do this. Frequently, people are more than willing to give you support and advice. You don"t have to be
perfect;after all, nobody else is.Next, bounce back.Reevaluate the goals you should have set for yourself
at the beginning and retool(改组)them when necessary.Goals should be realistic and specific, but that does
n"t mean they can"t be flexible. Instead of looking at your project as a disaster or failure, view it with
success.Concentrate on how great it will feel after it is finally done, after you have put your all into it.Instead
of focusing on a possible unsatisfactory performance one single time, take a moment to sit back and reward
yourself for all that you have accomplished.
Above all, don"t live with regrets.Success is never easy.It remains up to you whether you will give up,or
fight through the tough battles to earn whatever you want. Keep reaching for your goals and you will
achieve them. One small setback is nothing if you really want something and are willing to work for it
when meeting with a setback.
B.we"d better think it over before making a decision
C.we should stop to think before taking further action
D.we are expected to look at things in an all?round way
B.a success
C.a goal
D.a project
B.to depend on others" support and advice
C.to sit back and reward yourself for your success
D.to focus on a possible unsatisfactory performance
B.How to deal with the setbacks.
C.Different attitudes to the setbacks.
D.Different suggestions on your goals.
infected with the virus that causes AIDS. The relationships that I have had with these special kids have
been gifts in my life. They have taught me so many things, but I have especially learned that great courage
can be found in the smallest of packages. Let me tell you about Tyler.
Tyler was born infected with HIV:his mother was also infected. From the very beginning of his life,
he was dependent on medications to enable him to survive. When he was five, he had a tube surgically
inserted in a vein in his chest. This tube was connected to a pump, which he carried in a small backpack
on his back. Medications were hooked up to this pump and were continuously supplied through this
tube to his bloodstream. At times, he also needed supplemented oxygen to support his breathing.
Tyler wasn"t willing to give up one single moment of his childhood to this deadly disease. It was not
unusual to find him playing and racing around his backyard, wearing his medicineladen backpack and
dragging his tank of oxygen behind him in his little wagon. All of us who knew Tyler marveled at his
pure joy in being alive and the energy it gave him. Tyler"s mom often teased him by telling him that he
moved so fast that she needed to dress him in red. That way, when she peered through the window to
check on him playing in the yard, she could quickly spot him.
This dreaded disease eventually wore down even the likes of a little dynamo like Tyler. He grew
quite ill and, unfortunately, so did his HIV-infected mother. When it became apparent that he wasn"t
going to survive, Tyler"s mom talked to him about death. She comforted him by telling Tyler that she
was dying too, and that she would be with him soon in heaven.
A few days before his death, Tyler beckoned me over to his hospital bed and whispered, "I might
die soon. I"m not scared. When I die, please dress me in red. Mom promised she"s coming to heaven,
too. I"ll be playing when she gets there, and I want to make sure she can find me."
B. Optimistic.
C. Sorrowful.
D. Fearful.
B. red might help to cure him
C. his mom could spot him easily
D. he could find more mates by wearing red
B. A caring mother
C. Mother and son
D. Dying in red
B. an extremely energetic person
C. a rare and beautiful flower
D. a magic and understanding superstar
When you make a mistake, big or small, cherish(珍视) it like it"s the most precious thing in the world.
Because in some ways,it is.
Most of us feel bad when we make mistakes, beat ourselves up about it,feel like failures, get mad at
ourselves.
And that"s only natural:most of us have been taught from a young age that mistakes are bad, that we
should try to avoid mistakes. We"ve been scolded when we make mistakes-at home, school and work.
Maybe not always, but probably enough times to make feeling bad about mistakes an unconscious reaction.
Yet without mistakes, we could not learn or grow. If you think about it that way, mistakes should be
cherished and celebrated for being one of the most amazing things in the world:they make learning
possible;they make growth and improvement possible.
By trial and error-trying things, making mistakes, and learning from those mistakes-we have figured out
how to make electric light,to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel,to fly.
Mistakes make walking possible for the smallest toddler, make speech possible, make works of genius
possible.
Think about how we learn:we don"t just consume information about something and instantly know it or
know how to do it.You don"t just read about painting,or writing,or computer programming,or baking,or
playing the piano, and know how to do them right away.Instead, you get information about something, from
reading or from another person or from observing usually...then you construct a model in your mind...then
you test it out by trying it in the real world...then you make mistakes...then you revise the model based on
the results of your real-world experimentation...and repeat, making mistakes, learning from those mistakes,
until you"ve pretty much learned how to do something. That"s how we learn as babies and toddlers, and how
we learn as adults.Mistakes are how we learn to do something new-because if you succeed at something,
it"s probably something you already knew how to do.You haven"t really grown much from that success-at
most it"s the last step on your journey, not the whole journey. Most of the journey was made up of mistakes,
if it"s a good journey.
So if you value learning,if you value growing and improving, then you should value mistakes. They are
amazing things that make a world of brilliance possible.
B.Because it"s a natural part in our life.
C.Because we"ve been taught so from a young age.
D.Because mistakes have ruined many people"s careers.
B.We should owe great inventions mainly to mistakes.
C.We should treat mistakes as good chances to learn.
D.We should make feeling bad about mistakes an unconscious reaction.
B.a kindergarten child learning to draw
C.a primary pupil learning to read
D.a school teenager learning to write
B.growing and improving are based on mistakes
C.we learn to make mistakes by trial and error
D.we read about something and know how to do it right away
the present moment . In spite of what happened yesterday or last year, and what may or may not happen
tomorrow, the present moment is where you are-always!
Without question, many of us have mastered the sensitive art of spending much of our lives worrying
about a variety of things-all at once.We allow past problems and future concerns to control our present
moments,so much so that we end up anxious, discouraged, depressed, and hopeless. On the other hand,we
also put off our satisfaction, and put off what we should think of first, and our happiness, often convincing
ourselves that "someday" will be better than today.Unfortunately, the same mental power that tells us to
look toward the future will only repeat themselves so that "someday" never actually arrives.John Lennon
once said,"Life is what"s happening while we"re busy making other plans." When we are busy making other
plans, our children are busy growing up, the people we love are moving away and dying, our bodies are
getting out of shape, and our dreams are slipping away.In short,we miss our life.
Many people live as if life were dress rehearsal(彩排) for someday in the future. It isn"t.In fact,no one
has a guarantee that he or she will be here tomorrow. Now is the only time we have, and the only time that
we have any control over. When our attention is in the present moment,we push fear from our minds.Fear
is the concern over events that might happen in the future-we won"t have enough money, our children will
get into trouble,we will get old and die, whatever.
To fight against fear, the best method is to learn to bring your attention back to the present.Mark Twain
said,"I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.I don"t think I
can say it any better.Practice keeping your attention on here and now.Your efforts will pay off sooner or
later."

to be a loving husband and father.Totally loving. No ifs, ands or buts.
The idea had come to me as I listened to a talk on my car radio. The speaker was quoting a Biblical
passage about husbands and their wives. Then he went on to say,"Love is an act of will.A person can
choose to love." To myself,I had to admit that I had been a selfish husband.Well, for two weeks that would change.
And it did.Right from the moment I kissed Evelyn at the door and said,"That new yellow sweater looks
great on you.""Oh,Tom,you noticed",she said,surprised and pleased.Maybe a little puzzled.After the long
drive, I wanted to sit and read. Evelyn suggested a walk on the beach. I started to refuse, but then I
thought "Evelyn"s been alone here with the kids all week and now she wants to be alone with me. " We
walked on the beach while the children flew their kites.
So it went. Two weeks of not calling the Wall Street firm where I am a director;a visit to the shell
museum though I usually hate museums.Relaxed and happy, that"s how the whole vacation passed.I made
a new promise to keep on remembering to choose love.
There was one thing that went wrong with my experiment, however.Evelyn and I still laugh about it
today. On the last night at our cottage, preparing for bed,Evelyn stared at me with the saddest expression.
"What"s the matter?" I asked her.
"Tom," she said in a voice filled with distress,"I don"t?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well...that checkup I had several weeks ago...our doctor...did he tell you something about me?Tom,
you"ve been so good to me...am I dying?"
It took a moment for it all to be understood. Then I burst out laughing.
"No,honey," I said, wrapping her in my arms."You"re not dying;I"m just starting to live."
B.Independently
C.Impressively
D.Unconditionally
B.with Evelyn
C.alone
D.with his children
B.he had made a lot of money in his Wall Street firm
C.she looked lovely in her new clothes

B.he is just beginning to enjoy life as a loving husband
C.he lived an unhappy life before and is now starting to change
D.he is beginning to feel regret for what he did to his wife before
