小题2:A。
be sick of 意为“厌恶,厌倦”;be ashamed of 意为“感到羞愧,惭愧”;be afraid of 意为“害怕,担忧”;be tired of 意为“厌烦”。
小题6:A。talk about 意为“谈论,讨论”;think about 意为“考虑”;care about 意为“关心”;hear about 意为“听说”。
小题7:A。be impressed by 意为“被深深打动 / 感动”。
in sight of 意为“临近;可被……望见”;by means of 意为“依靠”;by way of 意为“经由”;in spite of 意为“虽然;尽管……
小题9:A。
小题11:A。
too...to...
小题14:A。out of control 意为“不受控制”;under control 意为“被控制住”;in control 意为“在控制之下”。

I was blind, but I was ashamed of it if it was known. I refused to use a white stick and  36  asking for help. After all, I was a teenage girl, and I couldn’t bear people to look at me and think I was not  37  them. I must have been a terrible danger on the roads. Coming across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to step  38  on their brakes. Apart from that, there were all sorts of disasters that used to occur on the way to and from work.
One evening, I got off the bus about halfway home where I had to change buses, and as usual I  39  something. “I’m awfully sorry,” I said and stepped forward only to run into it again. When it happened a third time, I realized I had been  40  to a lamppost. This was just one of the  41  things that constantly happened to me. So I carried on and found the bus stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldn’t stop  42  passengers wanted to get on or off. No one else was there and I had to try to guess if the bus had arrived.
Generally in this situation, because I hated  43   I was blind by asking for help, I tried to guess at the sound. Sometimes I would  44  a big lorry and stand there feeling stupid as it drew away. In the end, I usually managed to  45  my pride and ask someone at the stop for help.
46  on this particular evening no one joined me at the stop; it seemed that everyone had suddenly decided not to travel by bus. Of course I heard plenty of buses pass, or I thought I did. But because I had given up stopping them  47  making a fool of myself. I let them all go by. I stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Then I gave up. I decided to walk on to the next stop.

A Love Note to My Mom
When I was a little girl, I would often accompany you as you modeled (T台展示) for fashion photographers. It was years later that I finally understood what role modeling   36  in your life. Little did I know you were   37   every penny you earned to go to   38  school.
I cannot thank you enough for   39  you told me one autumn afternoon when I was nine. After finishing my homework, I wandered into the dining room where you were buried   40  piles of law books. I was   41 . Why were you doing what I do—memorizing textbooks and studying for   42  ? When you said you were in law school, I was more puzzled. I didn’t know Moms   43  be lawyers too. You smiled and said, “In life, you can do anything you want to do.”
As young as I was, that statement kept   44  in my ears. I watched as you faced the   45  of completing your studies, starting companies with Dad, while still being a   46   and a Mom of five kids. I was exhausted just watching you       47 . With your words of wisdom in my   48  mind, I suddenly felt unlimited freedom to dream. My whole world  49 . I set out to live my life filled with  50 , seeing endless possibilities for personal and professional achievements.
Your words became my motto. I   51   found myself in the unique position of being either the first (woman doctor in Maryland Rotary)   52   one of the few women (chief medical reporters) in my field. I gained strength every time I said, “Yes, I’ll try that.”
Encouraged by your   53  , I have forged ahead(毅然前行) with my life’s journey, less afraid to make mistakes, and   54   meeting each challenge. You did it, and now I’m   55   it. Sorry, got to run. So much to do, so many dreams to live.

People always say that if God closed a door in front of you, there must be a window opened for you. Yes, people always say that, but    36  is the window for me?
I am not disappointed, just a little worried    37   as my roommate said, “ Why are you angry with yourself once you    38   to do anything?” I have no idea. I just can’t    39   me if I can’t understand some easy things. Currently, I just feel__ 40 _with myself because I couldn’t finish the assignment on the lab, and what was    41   worse was that actually I did not understand what the    42   was! Fiona asked me why I didn’t    43   for help. The problem is that if I have to ask some silly questions, I will feel    44  .
Before I came here I was confident. But I have totally lost it. Sometimes I can’t__ 45  find the right words; sometimes I am too shy to    46   others. I have to admit that I am    47  .
The wisest people are always    48   who can take advantage of others’ wisdom. But I was so stupid as to close myself and    49   a lot of time soaking inside the workbook,    50  made me more confused. Why can’t I follow the sentence? I am   51   to get help the next time I have any questions. I can  52  I am not smart, but I shouldn’t hide it. I must    53   it as soon as possible.   54  I will have to waste much more time on it—just like tonight.
Difficulties always go with me. Go   55  ! I can make it.

A friend of mine was fond of drawing horse. He drew the horses very well, but he always began the tail. Now it is the Western rule to begin at the head of the horse, that is why I was surprised. It struck me that it could not really make any difference whether the artist begins at the head or the tail or the belly(肚子) or the foot of the horse, if he really knows his business. And most great artists who really know their business do not follow other people"s rule. They make their own rules. Every one of them does his work in a way peculiar( 奇特的) to himself; and the peculiarity means only that he finds it more easy to work in that way.
Now the very same thing is true to literature. And the question, "How shall I begin?" only means that you want to begin at the head instead of beginning at the tail or somewhere else. That is, you are not yet experienced enough to trust to your own powers. When you become more experienced you will never ask the question, and I think that you will often begin at the tail -- that is to say, you will write the end of the story before you have even thought of the beginning.
