Someone asked me, “ what do you think of youth?” I showed him
a can of COKE. See this?
“C” means “courage”. There’s a seed in everyone’s heart. As long as you really keep watering it, it will grow and harvest. Courage gives us the power to follow our dreams. Believe in yourself and be prepared for anything in the future.
“O” stands for “optimism(乐观)”. When in trouble, some
people feel disappointed but some people still keep their dreams. Be sure to choose the latter. Life is very much like a mirror. If you smile on it, it smiles back on you. If you frown, you will get a similar look in return. Throw away the sadness in your hear while filling it with brightness and hope.
“K” can be understood as “knowledge”. In order to keep up with the times, we should use knowledge to enrich ourselves. Knowledge is the food of thought and, as long as it is put in our brain, we will grow wiser.
“E” is short for “enthusiasm(热情)”. Enthusiasm is the sign of youth. We use colorful and paint-brushes in our hands to create the pictures of youth on our own. Let the sky and sea know we’re young. Let our enthusiasm wherever we go.
Drink a can of COKE. You will find your youth as refreshing (有活力的) as a can of coke. Enjoy and value your youth.

Eight – year – old Jesse Abrogate was playing in the sea late one evening in July 2001 when a 7 – foot bull shark attacked him and tore off his arm. Jesse’s uncle jumped into the sea and dragged the boy to shore. The boy was not breathing. His aunt gave him mouth – to – mouth resuscitation (人工呼吸) while his uncle rang the emergency services. Pretty soon, a helicopter arrived and flew the boy to hospital. It was a much quicker journey than the journey by road.
Jesse’s uncle, Vance Folsenzier, ran back into to the sea and found the shark that had attacked his nephew. He picked the shark up and threw it onto the beach. A coastguard shot the fish four times and although this did not kill it, the shark’s jaws relaxed so that they could open them, and reach down into its stomach, and pull out the boy’s arm.
At the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Dr Ian Rogers spent eleven hours reattaching Jesse’s arm. “It was a complicated operation,” he said, “but we were lucky. If the arm hadn’t been recovered in time, we wouldn’t have been able to do the operation at all. What I mean is that if they hadn’t found the shark, well then we wouldn’t have had a chance.’
According to local park ranger Jack Tomosvic, shark attacks are not that common. “Jesse was just unlucky,” he says, “evening is the shark’s feeding time. And Jesse was in area without lifeguards. This would never have happened if he had been in area where swimming is allowed.’
When reporters asked Jesse’s uncle how he had had the courage to fight a shark, he replied, “I was mad and you do some strange things when you’re mad.”

When I was finally thinking of buying my lunch, a person in need asked me if I could spare him some cash, so I decided to give him some money.
Then later in the evening, I was heading home anxiously for dinner. However, I got a call from my mom. She said that she had to work late and wouldn’t be able to prepare dinner for me. Youth is a kind of wealth. It will gradually disappear with the time passing. We must treasure the time when we are young in order not to waste the most valuable things in our life.
What can we do not to waste our youth? In my opinion, the first thing is to realize our value, our ideas. I believe that everyone has his or her own ideas, maybe he or she wants to be an artist, drawing beautiful pictures; maybe to be a manager, setting up a big company; maybe to be a doctor, saving patients’ lives; maybe to be a singer,________. No matter what our ideas are, we must try hard to achieve them. When we are young, we are full of vitality( 活力  ).We have the best conditions in our lives, good memories, good understanding and so on. We should make full use of these conditions to study more in order to enrich our mind so as not to make our ideas only dreams forever.
For another, we should do as many things as possible we want to do (of course, they must be lawful) to enrich our lives, making it colorful and gathering many different experiences which are worth recalling when we are old.
Then when we are really old, when we can not move any more , we can be proud of our achievements, can recall those things we have experienced and we can say we have no regret in our lives.
So, now, act, for ourselves when we are young.
