阅读理解。     It doesn"t come as a surprise to you to realize that it makes no difference what you read or study if you
can"t remember it. You just waste your valuable time.   1   One dependable aid that does help you remember
what you study is to have a specific purpose or reason for reading.
Why does a clerk in a store go away when your reply to her offer to help is, "No, thank you. I"m just
looking."? Both you and she know that if you aren"t sure what you want, you are not likely to find it. But
suppose you say instead, "Yes, thank you.I want a pair of sun glasses." She says,"Right this way, please."
2   If you choose a book, "just looking" for nothing in particular, you are likely to get just that-nothing.
But if you do know what you want, you are almost sure to get it.Your reasons will vary; they will include
reading or studying"to find out more about", "to understand the reasons for" and"to find out how".
3   Before you start to study, you say to yourself something like this, "I want to know why Stephen
Vincent Benet happened to write about America". Because you know why you are reading or studying, you
relate the information to your purpose and remember it better.
4   At least two important processes go on at the same time. As you read, you take in ideas rapidly and
accurately. But at the same time you express your own ideas to yourself as you react to what you read. You
have a kind of mental conversation with the author.
This additional process of thinking about what you read includes evaluating it, relating it to what you
already know, and using it for your own purposes.    5  One part of critical reading, as you have discovered,
is distinguishing between facts and opinions. Facts can be checked by evidence, Opinions are one"s own
personal reactions.Another part of critical reading is judging sources.Still another part is drawing accurate
inferences. A. Maybe you have already discovered some clever ways to keep yourself from forgetting.
B. It is important for students to have a positive attitude to their study.
C. You remember better when you know what you" re reading.
D. In other words, a good reader is a critical reader.
E. It"s quite the same with your studying.
F. Reading is not one single activity.
G.This is the way it works.

is going out to dinner to celebrate. How can this possibly end without a huge argument?
One of the greatest sources of tension (紧张情绪) between teenagers and their families is the struggle to
balance personal desires with family expectations. As you are getting older, you are becoming more

is any way you can do both.

阅读理解。     Plants are very important living things. Life could not go if there were no plants. This is because plants
can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight.
Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. So animals and man need plants in order to live.
This is why we find that there are so many plants around us.
If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering
plants and non-flowering plants.
Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some
have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a
fruit without seeds is the banana fruit.
Most non-flowering plants don"t grow from seeds. They grow from spores. Spores are so small and light
that they can float in the air. We may say that spores are quite the same as the seeds. When these spores fall
on wet and shady places, they usually grow into new plants. 1. The main idea of the passage is that ______. A. plants are important for life
B. plants cannot grow without air
C. there are many plants around us
D. we cannot live without water 2. Which of the following is NOT TRUE? A. Plants can be divided into main types: flowering plants and non-flowering plants.
B. All fruits have seeds in them.
C. Seeds are protected by the fruits.
D. Some plants grow from spores. 3. The word "non-flowering" in this passage means _______. A. 开花的
B. 有花的
C. 多花的
D. 不开花的 4. In "shady places" there is _______. A. a lot of sunshine

阅读理解。     There are several ways you can find out about the countries and places you wish to visit. You can talk
to friends who have travelled to the places. Or you can go and see a color film. Or you can read travel books.
It would seem that there are three kinds of travel books. The first are those that give a personal, subjective
(主观的) account of travels which the author has actually made himself. If they are informative and have a
good index (索引), then they can be useful to you when you are planning your travels. The second kind are
those books whose purpose is to give a purely objective (客观的) description of things to be done and seen.
If a well-read, cultured person has written such a book, then it is even more useful. It can be sorted as a
selected guide book. The third kind are those books which are called"a guide" to some place or other. If they
are good, they will, in addition to their factual information, give an analysis or an explanation. Like the first
kind they can be inspiring and interesting. But their basic purpose is to help the reader who wishes to plan in
the most practical way.
Whatever kind of travel book you choose you must make sure that it does not describe everything as
"wonderful", "excellent" or"magical". You must also note its date of publication because travel is a very
practical affair and many things change quickly in the twenty-first century. Finally, you should make sure
that the contents are well presented and easy to find. 1. This passage is about _____. A. how to travel
B. how to buy travel books
C. how to read a travel book
D. travel books 2. The following travel books may be of use when you plan your travels except ____. A. the book written by some people who have had the same travel experience themselves
B. the book which tells you what is worth doing and seeing based on the facts
C. the book in which a lot of big adjectives are used to draw your attention
D. the book which offers you a lot of useful information like a tour guide 3. The date of the publication must be noticed because ______.A. the world is changing and so are the places you are going to visit
B. the price of the book is always changing
C. the author of the book may be different
D. the contents of the book are always the same

since1991, and I really wanted to understand him and his music.   1    I was very patient, and that helped me
a lot in the process of learning English by myself.

language structure, comparing it to Portuguese and trying to memorize rules.   3    Another thing that helped
me a lot is the fact that I would spend hours studying the uses, tenses, etc. of the words I could notice.
4    It was the hardest part of the process for me, because the only source I had was music, although I
used a pronunciation dictionary, too.

Young people should know the basics of renting accommodation before they hand over their money.
◎Deal with agent: In many cases, you"ll have to work with an agent before finding an apartment,
because they have all the information. Find a large, reputable property agent. Small agents (especially those
that are unregistered), might cheat you by offering a good place with low rent. In many cases, they"ll ask
for commission (佣金) before showing you the apartment. And they"ll raise the rent afterwards.
◎Before you rent: Make sure you read the rental agreement carefully and ask for advice about anything
you don"t understand. Make sure that once you sign a rental contract, you will receive a copy. Keep all the
paperwork you receive, such as receipts for rent and paid bills. They are proofs. If dispute arises, they will
be vital.
◎Upfront costs: Moving into rental accommodation can be fairly expensive to start. You will usually be
asked for three month"s rent in advance and a deposit (押金),which is one month"s rent. If the place is not
fully furnished, you may have to buy things like a mattress, refrigerator and washing machine. You need to
be financially prepared in advance.
◎Sharing with friends: If you intend to share an apartment with friends, make sure you discuss costs
and possible house rules before you make a promise. There will be ongoing expense, so consider collecting
separate contributions (定期缴款) towards regular bills such as electricity, phone or gas. Put this money
into a special purpose bank account.
◎Damage control: If any damage is made to your apartment either by you or your visitors, whether it
is accidental or not, make sure you tell your landlord about it. Remember, you are required to leave the
place in the same condition as when you moved in. You will have to pay for any damage that is not
considered to be reasonable"wear and tear".
◎Before you move out: You usually need to tell the landlord one month in advance. Clean your room
(or apartment) before you leave. Ask for a refund (return) of your deposit. 1. Working with an agent is essential because he / she _____. A. may offer you a good place with a low rent
B. knows where there are houses to rent
C. may ask the landlord for commission
D. will help you sign a favourable contract2. If a landlord charges you $100 a month, you need to prepare _____ before moving in. A. at least $300
B. at most $400
C. more than $400
D. as mush as possible 3. How do you deal with regular bills when sharing an apartment with friends? A. let the other renters pay for them
