阅读理解。     If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them
again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that
memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he
keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means
that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we
know that it is his own fault (过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his
parents are to blame (受责备), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some
people can"t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and
they have to remember things; they cannot write down in a little notebook. They have to remember days,
names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised. So if you want to have a good
memory, learn from the people: Practice remembering.1. The main reason why one is poor memory is that _______. A. his father or mother may have a poor memory
B. He does not use his arms or legs for some time
C. his memory is not often used
D. he can"t read or write 2. If you do not use your arms or legs for some time _______. A. you can"t use them any more
B. they become weak and won"t become strong until you use them again.
C. they will become stronger
D. they will become neither stronger nor weaker 3. Which of the following is NOT true?A. Your memory works in the same way as your arms or legs.
B. Your memory, like your arms or legs, becomes weak if you don"t give it enough chance for practice.
C. A good memory comes from more practice.
D. Don"t learn how to read and write if you want to have a better memory. 4. Some people can"t read or write, but they usually have better memories, because _______. A. they have saved much trouble
B. they have saved much time to remember things
C. they have to use their memories all the time
D. they can"t write everything in a little notebook 5. Which is the best title for this passage?A. Don"t Stop Using Your Arms Or Legs
B. How to Have a Good Memory
C. Strong Arms and Good Memories
D. Learn From the People

than food. Sociologist Michael Lewis has been studying 50 families to find out just how much more.
Lewis and his co-workers carried out their study by videotaping (录像) the families while they ate ordinary
meals in their own homes. They found that parents with small families talk actively with each other and their
children. But as the number of children gets larger, conversation gives way to the parents"efforts to control the
loud noise they make. That can have an important effect on the children. "In general the more question-asking
the parents do, the higher the children"s IQ scores," Lewis says. "And the more children there are, the less
question-asking there is." The study also provides an explanation for why middle children often seem to have a
harder time in life than their siblings (兄弟姐妹). Lewis found that in families with three or four children, dinner conversation is likely to center on the oldest child, who has the most to talk about, and the youngest, who needs the most attention. "Middle children are invisible," says Lewis. "When you see someone get up from the table and walk around during dinner, chances are it"s the middle child." There is, however, one thing that stops all
conversation and prevents anyone from having attention: "When the TV is on," Lewis says,"dinner is a
non-event." 1. The writer"s purpose in writing the text is to ______.A. show the relationship between parents and children
B. teach parents ways to keep order at the dinner table
C. report on the findings of a study
D. give information about family problems 2. Parents with large families ask fewer questions at dinner because _______. A. they are busy serving food to their children
B. they are busy keeping order at the dinner table
C. they have to pay more attention to younger children
D. they are tired out having prepared food for the whole family 3. By saying "Middle children are invisible" in paragraph 3, Lewis means that middle children ______. A. have to help their parents to serve dinner
B. get the least attention from the family
C. are often kept away from the dinner table
D. find it hard to keep up with other children 4. Lewis" research provides an answer to the question ______. A. why TV is important in family life
B. why parents should keep good order
C. why children in small families seem to be quieter
D. why middle children seem to have more difficulties in life5. Which of the following statements would the writer agree to?A. It is important to have the right food for children.
B. It is a good idea to have the TV on during dinner.
C. Parents should talk to each of their children frequently.
D. Elder children should help the younger ones at dinner

阅读理解。     Many students want to find friends on the Internet as a way of practising their language skills and learning
more about new cultures. Traditional pen pals were the primary source for such contacts, and students could
write each other letters. With the Internet, finding friends has become much easier, and such relationships are
called key pals.
However, care and consideration should be given when finding friends on the Internet:
◎Search the Internet for reputable (有信誉的) services. Look for reviews(评论) of such sites to learn more about other students" experiences. Don"t join a service until you have done your research.
◎Check to see if you can use a nickname (绰号) instead of __________, to protect your identity(身份).
◎Never give personal information to anyone, including your home address, phone number, and birthday.
◎Stop contact with others if you feel uncomfortable with the topics of conversation. Again, if you protect
your identity, this will be easier to do. Tell your teachers, parents, or even local law enforcement if problem
arise.
◎Try to use the language you are studying in the classroom in your communication(交流) with others.
◎Ask proper questions that will also help you learn about other cultures. Remember that someone"s
personal experience might help you to understand a whole culture. You have to talk to many different people,
and this will get you started. 1. Please give this passage a proper title. (Please answer with 10 words.)

Four goals for Perfect Life .      Healthy and Fit
The first goal common to all of us is health and energy.   1   Today, with the incredible advances in medical
science, the quality of our health and fitness, and our lifespan (寿命), is largely determined by design, not by
chance. People with excellent health habits are far healthier, have more energy, and live longer and better than
people who have poor health habits.
     Excellent Relationships
2  Fully 85% of your happiness will be determined by the quality of your relationships at each stage, and
in each area, of your life. How well you get along with people, and how much they like, love and respect you,
has more impact on the quality of your life than perhaps any other factor.
     Do What You Love
The third common goal is to do work that we enjoy, to do it well, and to be well paid for it.   3  You want to earn the very most that is possible for you at each stage of your career, whatever you do.
        4
The fourth goal we all have in common is to achieve financial independence.  5   You want to be completely
free of financial worries. You want to be able to order dinner in a restaurant without using the price listings to
determine what you want to eat. A. We don"t want to get the job that we aren"t well paid and don"t promote faster.
B. Achieve Financial Independence
C. Money is the most important for we can"t go without it.
D. You want to reach the point in life where you have enough money so that you never have to worry
     about money again.
E. You want to be able to get and keep the job you want, to get paid more and promoted faster.
F. The second goal that we all have in common is to enjoy excellent relationships with the people we like
and respect, and who like, love and respect us in turn.
G. We all want to be healthy and fit, to have high levels of energy and to live free of pain and illness.

In our life, we have rarely expressed our gratitude to the one who"d lived those years with us. In fact, we
don"t have to wait for anniversaries to thank the ones close to us-the ones so easily overlooked. If I have
learned anything about giving thanks, it is this: give it now! While your feeling of appreciation is alive and
sincere, act on it.
Saying thanks is such an easy way to add to the world"s happiness. Saying thanks not only brightens
someone else"s world, but it also brightens yours. If you"re feeling left out, unloved or unappreciated, try
reaching out to others. It may be just the medicine you need.
Of course, there are times when you can"t express gratitude immediately. In that case don"t let
embarrassment sink you into silence-speak up the first time you have the chance.
Once a young minister, Mark Brian, was sent to a remote parish of Kwakiutl Indians in British Columbia.
He had been told that the Indians did not have a word for thank you. But Brian soon found that these people
had exceptional generosity. Instead of saying thanks, it is their custom to return every favor with a favor of
their own, and every kindness with an equal or superior kindness. They do their thanks.
I wonder if we had no words in our vocabulary for thank you, would we do a better job of communicating
our gratitude? Would we be more responsive, more sensitive and more caring? Thankfulness sets in motion a
chain of reaction that transforms people all around us-including ourselves, for no one ever misunderstands the
melody of a grateful heart.
1. In the first paragraph the writer mainly encourages us _____.
A.to express our sincere thanks timely to those around us
B. never to overlook our close friends in daily life
C. to wait for a proper occasion to show our gratitude
D. to increase the world"s happiness by saying thanks
2. When we say something for what others do for us, it ______.
A. is good for both us and people who help us
B. benefits the people who do something for us
C. wastes our and our friends" time at the same time
D. does harm to both us and people who help us
3. According to the writer, _____ could be the best way to prevent ourselves from being left out.
A. seeing a doctor to find the right medicine we need
B. expressing our gratitude in an easy way
C. speaking up the moment we have the chance
D. showing others actively we are willing to help them
4. Mark Brain"s story is mentioned in the passage in order to show the fact that _____.
A. the Indians didn"t have any words for appreciation
B. the Indians were particularly generous to others
C. some people may express their gratitude through different approaches
D. Mark Brain set the Indians an example to show saying thanks is very important
