     阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。注意:每个空格
只填一个单词。      You may be surprised to learn that employers generally are not looking for candidates with the best
grade point averages, who were involved in the most clubs, or scored the highest in sports. They want to
find employees who are the best fit for the job. Why? Those candidates will stay the longest.
The average college graduate stays with her first employer for only nine months. Employers have
concluded that most new young hires are unrealistic about what entry-level jobs needs and will soon
leave in search of something "better". They"re right.
This costs companies a lot of money, because training new hires is expensive. It"s not surprising, then,
that most companies-especially those with training programs-will be interested in whether you"re likely to
remain in that position.
How can you show a company you won"t move on too soon? You must display a true interest in the
industry, in the job function itself, and particularly in that employer. Intelligently discussing the company,
current trends in the industry and showing that you are genuinely interested in the job are two great ways
to communicate to an interviewer that you"re a low-risk hire.
Maturity is another factor that employers weigh heavily. Some students or recent graduates, in
one-on-one situations with older adults, may not come across as being mature and confident enough for
the professional world. Unfortunately, such judgments are often made based on assumptions, but they are
sometimes based on an impression made during a job interview. It is up to you to convince the employer
otherwise. When on a job interview, make sure you project yourself as a mature candidate wlio is ready to
enter the business community. Practice a firm handshake and learn how to make good eye contact.

TransLink is urging customers to avoid non-essential travel today and to stay home where possible in
the difficult weather conditions.
TransLink chief executive officer Peter Strachan said bus and train services were continuing to run
where possible, however all CityCat and CityFerry services had been cancelled until further notice.
"These are extremely difficult conditions for South East Queensland-we are running essential services
where possible but safety remains to be the most important," Mr Strachan said.
"Severe weather and associated flooding has impacted on all modes of public transport, with bus,
ferry and train services all impacted to varying degrees.
"If you are planning to use public transport at anytime over the next few days, then I would
recommend you check that your intended service is still running."
Service disruptions (中断) for today include:
City network trains running hourly on all lines.
lBus diversions, delays and cancellations in some regions, particularly across Brisbane, Ipswich and the
Sunshine Coast.
     CityCat and CityFerry services cancelled.
Queensland Rail Chief Executive Officer Paul Scurrah said rising waterways had closed some train lines,
and road closures and damage to property throughout the South-East had contributed to a shortage of
available rail employees.
"We intend to run trains hourly on all lines, similar to the timetable we operate on Christmas Day. We
will also be looking to run other additional services to meet demand as required. At this stage we will run
services stopping at all stations which will depart at the same time on the hour, however, this is all subject
to the weather conditions and the availability of traincrew."
Mr Scurrah encouraged all customers to visit the Translink website for specific departure times for
their station, and asked for patience in the event of delays.
"Queensland Rail appreciates that reduced services may cause disruptions but it is simply unavoidable. We have a dedicated and experienced team monitoring the situation around the clock and will be working
to reopen the network as soon as practicably possible," Mr Scurrah said.
The latest service disruption information is available on the TransLink website www.translink.com.au.

Treasure Island isn"t a true story, but the characters do seem to loan out of the pages alive,
armed to the teeth and ready to go treasure hunting
. But you will find, as you read this book, that
although pirates can be murderous and treacherous (奸诈的),they can also be cowardly, superstitious,
and easily led. As it turns out, that is fortunate for Jim Hawkins.
It"s a brilliant story. Billy Bones, a retired seaman, comes to live at the Admiral Benbow inn. Jim is
just a boy, but he can see that Billy Bones is a nervous man, always on the look-out for strangers arriving
at the inn. And well he might be nervous, because he carries with him in his battered old sea-chest a map
drawn by Captain Flint himself giving the whereabouts of all Flint"s buried treasure! Captain Flint! -the
most feared pirate ever to travel the high seas.
Well,Flint is dead, but there are plenty of men who served with Captain Flint still alive who will feel
they have a fair claim to the treasure. The map, though, ends up in the possession of Jim Hawkins-(it"s a
near thing, read the book to see how that happens)
Jim tells the secret in the local doctor, who quickly joins forces to acquire a ship and crew to sail for
Treasure Island
There"s a famous scene where Jim, hiding in the apple barrel on deck, discovers that mutiny (叛乱) is
planned. It"s a bad moment. The numbers suggest that the pirates are going to have it all their own way.
There are nineteen mutineers and seven honest men, including Jim.     And now, you will have to read the
book for yourself. This is a fantastic tale of cheat, bravery and cowardice. I don"t know how things would have turned out if it hadn"t been for Jim Hawkins. For it is Jim who single-handedly steals the Hispaniola
from under the very noses of the pirates and sails her round the island to a secret beaching place.
And do you know what happens to Long John Silver, the greatest double-crosser of them all? No?
Well, don"t expect me to tell you. Don"t be nervous of reading a "classic". I know it was published a long
time ago, but that doesn"t mean it is difficult to read. There is one piece of advice I will give, though. I
don"t think this book is ever out of print---there are hundreds of different copies around. If you can,
choose a copy with large enough print to be able to read comfortably, and exciting illustrations. It makes
all the difference.
Go ahead! Read the book. I think you"ll love it.

Of the thousands of different kinds of animals that exist in the world, man has learned to make friends
with an enormous number. Some are pets, and offer him companionship; some give protection, and
some do hard work which man cannot do for himself. Dogs, which serve man in all three capacities, are
