Keeping Positive During a Long Job Search
A long job search can affect your attitude, especially if you"re out of a job. If it"s taking you longer than expected to find a job, the following tips can help you concentrate and stay positive, as well as reducing your depression.
小题1:___________
When you no longer have a job to report for every day, you can easily lose motivation. Treat your job search like a regular job, with a daily "start" and "end" time. Following a set schedule will help you be more efficient and productive while you"re out of a job.
小题2:___________
Avoid getting overwhelmed by breaking big goals into small manageable steps. Instead of trying to do everything at once, first put something ahead. If you"re out of luck in your job search, take some time to rethink your goals and work out another job search plan.
小题3:___________
Make a list of all the things you like about yourself, including skills, characters, achievements and successes. Write down projects that you"re proud of, situations where you excel and things you"re good at. Review this list often to remind yourself of your strengths.
小题4:___________
Being out of a job can decrease your self-esteem and make you feel useless. However, volunteering can help you maintain a sense of value and purpose. Helping others can put you in a good mood. Volunteering can also provide career experience, social support and networking opportunities.
小题5:___________
You can"t control how quickly a possible boss calls you back or whether or not he decides to hire you. Rather than wasting your energy and time on things that are out of your hands, turn your attention to things you can control during the time when you are out of a job, such as writing a great cover letter and resume to the company you want to work for, setting up meetings with your networking contacts and so on.

Recently China has launched national campaign “Eat up All on the Plates”. It is traditional for most peoples in China to entertain their guests with too much food. They believe that they had not satisfied their guests if there’s no food left on the table, that they think is a good way to show our hospitality(好客). As a result, restaurant trashcans are often being found full of leftover food, even with full plates untouch.
The “Eat Up All on the Plates” campaign is intended to reduce the waste and raise people’s awareness. It has been warm welcomed with positive responses. As middle school students, we should do our bit to say “No” to food waste, and try to develop the habit of never ordering or cooking much than what we need so as to save our limited food resources, which we depend for a better life.

Before the 1850’s, the United States had a number of small colleges, most of them dating from colonial(殖民的)days. They were small, church connected institutions whose primary concern was to shape the moral character of their students.
Throughout Europe, institutions of higher learning had developed, bearing the ancient name of university. In German university was concerned primarily with creating and spreading knowledge, not morals. Between mid-century and the end of the 1800’s, more than nine thousand young Americans, dissatisfied with their training at home, went to Germany for advanced study. Some of them return to become presidents of admired colleges-Harvard, Yale, Columbia-and transform them into modern universities. The new presidents broke all ties with the churches and brought in a new kind of faculty. Professors were hired for their knowledge of a subject, not because they were of the proper faith and had a strong arm for disciplining students. The new principle was that a university was to create knowledge as well as pass it on, and this called for a faculty made up of teacher-scholars. Drilling and learning by memorization were replaced by the German method of lecturing, in which the professor’s own research was presented in class. Graduate training leading to the Ph.D., an ancient German degree representing the highest level of advanced scholarly achievement, was introduced. With the establishment of the seminar system, graduate student learned to question, analyze, and conduct their own research.
At the same time, the new university greatly expanded in size and course offerings, breaking completely out of the old, restricted curriculum of mathematics, classics, rhetoric, and music. The president of Harvard pioneered the elective system, by which students were able to choose their own course of study. The new goal was to make the university relevant(相关的) to the real pursuits(追求) of the world.
