试题【I was said to be the worst student in my class, and my family thought I was hope】;主要考察你对人生百味类等知识点的理解。[详细]
举一反三
Once my father asked me to hold his hammer while he repaired something, so we could have some time to talk to each other.
For 22 years, after I left home for college, he called me every Sunday at 9 am. He was always interested in my life and how my family was doing, and I never once heard him complain about his own life.
Nine years ago when I bought my first house, my father, 67 years old, spent eight hours a day painting it for three days. He would not allow me to pay someone to have it done. All he asked for was a glass of iced tea and for me to hold a paint brush for him and talk to him. But I was too busy.
Five years ago, at age 71, my father spent five hours putting together a swingset (秋千组) for my daughter. Again, all he asked was that I get him a glass of iced tea and talk to him. But again, I was too busy.
Four years ago, my father drove all the way from Denver to Topeka, with an eight-foot Colorado blue spruce (蓝叶云杉) in his trunk, so that my husband and I could have a part of Colorado growing on our land. I was preparing for a trip that weekend and couldn’t spend much time with him.
Then, one day, my father telephoned me as usual, this time from my sister’s home in Florida. We talked about the tree he had brought me, “Fat Albert”, but that morning he called it “Fat Oscar”, and he seemed to have forgotten some things. I had to get to church, so I cut the conversation short.
The call came at 4:40 pm that day: my father was in hospital in Florida with an aneurysm (动脉瘤). I got on a plane immediately, and on the way I thought of all the times I had not taken the time to talk to my father. I realized that I had no idea who he was or what his deepest thoughts were. I promised that when I arrived, I would make up for lost time.
I arrived in Florida at 1 am. My father had passed away at 9:12 pm. This time it was he who did not have time to talk to me.

Years ago, I lived in a building in a town. There was another building across from mine, and it was only a few metres away. There lived a woman whom I had never met. I could see her sit by the window each afternoon, drinking or reading.
Several months later, I noticed her window was very dirty. Everything was not clear through the window. I wondered why the woman didn"t wash her window.
One sunny morning, I decided to clean up my apartment, including washing my windows. Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down for a rest by the window. What a surprise! The woman sitting by her window was clearly seen! Her window was clean! Suddenly, I realized I had made a mistake. I was watching her through my dirty window all the time!
That was quite an important lesson for me. Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (判断) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him through the dirty window of my heart? ”Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world clearly.

In choosing a friend, one should be very careful. A good friend can help you study. You can have fun together and make each other happy. Sometimes you will meet fair-weather friends. They will be with you as long as you have money or luck, but when you are down, they will run away. How do I know when I have found a good friend? I look for certain qualities(品质) of character, especially understanding, honesty and reliability(可靠).
Above all else, I look for understanding in a friend. A good friend tries to understand how another person is feeling. He is not quick to judge. Instead, he tries to learn from others. He puts himself in the other person’s place, and he tries to think of ways to be helpful. He is also a good listener.
At the same time, however, a good friend is honest. He does not look for faults(过错) in others. He notices their good points. In short, a friend will try to understand me and accept me.
Another quality of a friend is reliability. I can always depend on a good friend. If he tells me he will meet me somewhere at a certain time, I can be sure that he will be there. If I need a favor, he will do his best to help me. If I am in trouble, he will not run away from me.
There is a fourth quality that makes a friend special. A special friend is someone with whom we can have fun. We should enjoy our lives, and we would enjoy our friendship. That is why I especially like friends who are fun to be with. A good friend likes the same things I like. We share experiences and learn from each other. A good friend has a good sense of humor, too. He likes to laugh with me. That is how we share in the joy of being friends. And I know that he is looking for the same quality in me.
When I meet someone who is reliable, honest and understanding, I know I’ve found a friend!

Sharon has been a serious runner for six years. She has completed three marathons and several shorter races. Each week she runs about 20 miles.
Her favorite shoes? A $25 pair of Champion shoes she bought at Target. “I like running in simple shoes,” she said, “The more you pay, the more trouble you get.” She is right. Money often buys higher-quality goods, but not when it comes to running shoes.
Over the last forty years, running has been popular as a leisure (闲暇的) sport. In 2009, 476,000 runners took part in a marathon. In 1976, the number was just 25,000. Sales of running shoes reached a record $ 2.36 billion in 2009, 60 percent more than ten years earlier.
But some of those dollars may not have been well spent. In 2007, Scottish researchers tested running shoes at three price levels, ranging from $80 to $150, and found that low-cost and mid-cost shoes within the same brand protected runners’ feet just as well as high-cost ones, sometimes even better.
“The common idea is that if you pay more, you will get better shoes,” said Abboud, director of the Institute of Motion Analysis and Research at the University of Dundee in Scotland, “Our research did not show that.” Professor Abboud and his colleagues have just completed a similar study, as not yet published, with nearly the same results.
If you want to run well and run safely, consider fit first and price last. “You want a shoe that helps you keep a balanced position,” said Mark Montgomery, manager of the JackRabbit Sports store in Union Square in New York, “A more expensive shoe is not always the solution.”
“The less you think about a shoe, the better,” said Ms Bakoul, a marathoner.
小题1:According to Sharon, ________.
A.expensive shoes will give you more trouble
B.higher-quality shoes will protect your feet better
C.taking part in marathons is very important for runners
D.running about 20 miles a week is the best for your health

A.it was spent on running
B.it was spent on high- cost shoes
C.running needs the cheapest shoes
D.money often buys higher-quality goods
小题3:From the passage we can infer __________.
A.running as a leisure sport will be no longer popular
B.Professor Abboud thinks the common idea is right
C.Ms Bakoul is against the research results
D.Mark Montgomery agrees with Sharon
小题4:What’s the best title for the passage?
A.The More, the BetterB.Run Well and Run Safely

Many people think self-confidence is the key to a happy, successful life. But where does self-confidence come from?    小题1:   .
I’m Lucy. Self-confidence means that I can do something well. It’s even better if someone else tells you that you’re good at something, too. When people listen to me and pay attention to my ideas, I know they like me. When people don’t listen, I sometimes feel sad.  小题2:   .
I’m Jeff. Respect from my family and friends makes me feel the best. I don’t care if I’m the best football player, or I don’t get the highest grade on a test, or don’t succeed at everything I do.    小题3:   . If someone says something unkind about you, you don’t mind that much because you know they’re wrong—that means you have self-confidence.
I’m Sue. I really feel good when my mum gives me a hug and says,“Have a nice day!”before I leave the house. Also, one day in a store I asked a salesman where to find something, and to my surprise, he said,“You have a beautiful smile.” For the rest of the day I was happy. These kinds of things have to come naturally and from the heart, but they make a big difference in the way a person feels.

A. I hope someone will care about me
B. You should remember“You can do it if you think you can.”
