    On May 8, a team of Chinese climbers lit the Olympic flame on the top of Mount Qomolangma. It was
a historic moment for China. China has promised to the world to light the Olympic flame on the top of the

    Five torchbearers (火炬手) finished the highest relay ever. Three of them are Tibetan athletes. The Olympic
flame reached the foot of the Mt Qomolangma on April 26. But high winds and heavy snow delayed (推迟)
the mission. The team had set out at about 2 o"clock on the morning of May 8. It took them six hours to
reach the 8,844-meter Himalayan peak. They showed the Olympic flag, the Beijing Games flag and the
Chinese national flag on the top of Qomolangma. "Beijing welcomes you!" team members said when they lit
the torch. "We are on top of the world!" shouted Nima Cering. He has climbed the peak several times. But
he said that this was most important climb. "As a Tibetan and a Chinese, I pray for (祈祷) the success of
Beijing 2008
," he added. 
    The relay on the top of Qomolangma is the Olympic motto,"higher, faster and stronger", in practice. It
will also promote the unity of all the 56 ethnic groups in China.

    Expo 2010 is held in Shanghai from May 1 to October 31. People all over the world are looking forward
to it. Here are several golden rules on how to best plan your trip.
Rule 1: Do your homework
    Read everything you call before going. Really study the maps. Know the pavilions. Arrive at the entrance

    My parents taught me not to waste food. My mom always found ways to make leftovers (剩
余食物) taste good. I went to Ilan to learn about some of their special foods. As I was
the re, I learned about the food and the history of the area. I learned that they don"t
waste food, either, and they use leftovers!
    Many years ago, there was not enough food for everyone. People learned to cook and eat
almost everything. They had to think of ways to make special dishes. One of these dishes
is kao zha. It"s made with leftovers like meat, soup, oil and fat. That might not sound
very good, but it does taste good. Today, kao zha is a special dish at big banquets (宴会).
    Another famous dish is called zao bing. It"s made with fruit, meat and other things.
I really liked it! But I didn"t want to eat too much. It has a lot of fat in it.
    I smelled something burning, and I saw smoke, so I found another special food of the
Ilan area-duck meat. The duck meat is put in a big oven (炉子) to cook it. Smoke keeps the
meat fresh. I don"t usually eat meat, but this duck meat was delicious! It tasted sweet.

    What"s your idea of a perfect mom? In America, moms of the 1950s and 60s in the TV
plays were the "perfect" examples. They always made freshly cooked meals and had a tidy
