In most parts of the world, many students help their school make less pollution. They join in “environment(环境) clubs”. In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean.
Here are the things students often do.
Turn off the water! Do you know that some toilets can waste(浪费) twenty to forty tons of water an hour?
In a year, that would fill a small river! In environment clubs, students mend those broken toilets.
No-car day. On a no-car day, nobody comes to school in a car—not the students and not the teachers! Cars give pollution to our air, so remember:
Walk, jump, bike or run.
Use your legs! It’s lots of fun!
No-garbage(垃圾) lunches. How much do you throw away after lunch? Environment clubs ask students to bring their lunches in bags that can be used again. Every week they will choose the classes that make the least garbage and report them to the whole school!
We love our environment. Let’s work together to make it clean!

Many people are so busy these days that they have no time to cook at home. This becomes a problem because most families love home cooking! The food tastes good and a family meal can bring everyone together. In some families, meals are often the only chance everyone gets to see each other at the same time during the day.
Another reason people enjoy home cooking is that it is a way of showing love. A parent who makes some cookies is not just satisfying a child’s sweet tooth. He or she is sending a message (信息). The message says, “I care about you enough to spend an hour making cookies that you will eat up in 15 minutes if I let you.” There is also something about the smell of home cooking. Are you carrying too much on your back at school? You’re not alone. Back experts in the United States are worried that young students are having back and neck problems as a result of carrying too much in their backpacks (schoolbags)
“It hurts my back when I run,”said Oberlin Reyes, a student in Virginia. “It’s hard to go up the stairs with my backpack, because it’s too heavy,”
Oberlin was among students whose backpacks were weighed for a week in a recent study.
They had regular backpacks with two straps(带子)to carry them, but a number of students with heavy loads had switched to rolling backpacks (which have wheels and can roll on the ground).
Shirley Park, whose backpack weighed 10 kilograms, said she changed to a rolling backpack because she was starting to have back  pain.
How much is too much?Experts say students should carry no more than 10 to 15 percent of their own body weight.
A few students had one suggestion to lighten the load:less homework.
P.S.( 附)Doctor’s suggestion:
1 Lighten the load. Clean out binders(活页材料)and take home only the books you need that night.

Parking has been a problem for drivers for a long time in Taizhou. The Transportation Department(部门) is mapping out a new plan for the city’s parking system. There are about 100 thousand cars on the road inTaizhou but only enough parking space to provide room for 15 percent of these vehicles. It is no wonder that local drivers get so worried trying to find a place to park.
The number of the private(私人的) car owners is becoming lager and larger. In March, the city sent out 1,000 private car licenses, the highest number of licenses ever sent out in a month. And prices rose to over 200 yuan, 500 more than in February. Industry experts(专家) say this suggests that local people have a strong, active interest in buying cars.
By the year 2020, the number of cars in Taizhou will probably reach 200 thousand. If one parking lot is for each car, then a lot of parking space should be built for these vehicles. The center of Taizhou is most short of parking space. However, experts point out that simply building more parking lots in these areas is not practical and doesn’t solve the problem. The idea of “ Park & Ride” system has been suggested. This means that underground train and city train should be developed quickly. Drivers can leave their vehicles in car parks nearby subway(地铁) and bus stations and then they can ride public transport to go to the city center.
