problem finding your way around like a local (当地人). There are three main forms of public transport that
you would find in any other major city — trains, buses and taxis.
TRAINS Trains run from 6:00 am to midnight. Single trip tickets start at 80 cents. If you buy an EZ-Link
card for $15, you can ride the trains and buses as you like. If you need more information, just call Transit Link
on 1800 767 4333.
BUSES There are several bus services in Singapore and fares start at 80cents. Be sure always ask the
driver the cost of your ticket as he can not give change. If you need help, just call Transit Link on 1800 767
4333.
TAXIS There are three main taxi companies — City Cab (6552 2222), Comfort (6552 1111) and Tibs
(6552 8888). Booking can also be easily by calling the numbers listed above.
RENTAL CARS Driving in Singapore is a pleasure and if you like to travel at your own pace, renting a

up the tables when it was very busy. One night, just before Christmas, I found a large black wallet on the
floor near one of the tables. I guessed I should check it to find out who was the owner, but I was very busy
at the time. And I imagined that if there was something valuable in the wallet, the owner would be back. Sure
enough, an hour later a man came up to the counter and asked if anyone had found a wallet. I asked him to
describe the lost wallet, and after he described it exactly, I gave him the wallet. He expressed his thanks when
I handed it to him. He asked me if I had opened it, and when I told him "no", at once he opened it and showed
that it had nearly $800 in cash (现金). He took out a twenty-dollar bill and handed it to me and I was amazed
at this."A reward (酬劳) for your honesty, young girl." he said and then turned and walked away.
Thinking about it later, I began wondering whether I would have been honest if I had known what was
in the wallet! I thought that if I had no way to find the owner and no one returned to get it, I might keep it.
But it also came into my mind that I actually saved someone"s Christmas plans by finding and returning the
wallet. The good feeling it gave me was worth more than anything could buy.

I have never written a letter to a newspaper before, I have just never felt the need to do such a thing.
I have always felt I was quite able to do everything by myself. But now I know I was wrong. Sometimes
you really need help in life, I guess. And that"s why I"m writing this letter to you. I have a happy family. I love
my children and they love me. I"m a mother of three children. I know well how to bring up (带大) children,
and two of them are already over twenty, so it is nothing new for me.
But now I have a serious problem: the Internet problem. My little son is just sixteen, and I feel he should
do a lot of homework now, but he doesn"t seem to be interested in it. He can happily spend six or eight hours
at a time on the Internet every day, He chats with people that he has never met before, but speaks little to us.
He does lots of useless things on the Internet. And he sees red if you ask him to do his homework.
I just want him to be a good student. Now he seldom does his lessons at home. I"m afraid he will drop
behind in his class soon. His father is a doctor, a very kind man. He never seems to be afraid of his father.
What can I do?And don"t tell to talk to him. We"ve tried that and it didn"t work. But this is really a big
problem in our family. I have tried everything I can think of. I wonder how the Internet is so attractive
(有吸引力的). You"re my last hope. Please tell me what I can do!
Yours,
Ellen Smith
