Field sampling
The sampling program was carried out aboard the RV ‘Hesp¨¦rides¡’during the cruise named ¡®BENTART-06¡¯ in January and February 2006.Stations are reported in Fig.and station locations and depths are given in Table .Sediment samples were collected by means of an USNEL-type box corer (BC) with a maximum breakthrough of 60cm and an e effective sampling area of 0.25m ².When possible,two duplicate samples per station were carried out,and a total of 20 BC samples were collected from 11 diff erent stations at water depths between 157 and 3,304m (Fig.1 ,Table1)
