Boot Loader就是在操作系统内核或用户应用程序运行之前运行的一段程序,其主要功能是完成处理器和周边电路正常运行所需要的初始化工作,建立内存空间的映射,包括设置系统堆栈和系统启动参数区,将系统的软、硬件环境带到一个合适的状态,并可以从ROM、 FLASH等非易失存储器上,或者网络上加载操作系统,以便最终引导操作系统或用户应用程序.通常,Boot Loader是高度依赖于硬件而设计和实现的,每种不同的CPU体系结构的Boot Loader都各有不同,因此为多种嵌入式系统建立一个通用的Boot Loader是很困难的.在目标板上构建嵌入式系统时,必须根据相应的硬件配置及嵌入式应用的需求,对Boat Loader和Linux内核作一些必要的移植修改工作,才能构建适合于嵌入式硬件配置和嵌入式应用软件的Linux系统.

Boot Loader,a sect of codes which runs before the OS core and the application process,initializes processor and other circuits around,and builds the mapping of memory space,including the stack of system and the sect of loading parameter of the system.Also,it takes the environment of the hardware and the software into a suitable state.Boot Loader can be loaded from not only the ROM or FLASH,but also the internet,in order to boot the OS or the application process finally.As a rule,Boot Loader is designed and carried out relying on hardware extremely; and each CPU system configuration has different Boot Loader,so it’s hard to build a current one.When the embedded system is constructed on the end board,some modification of the codes of the Boot Loader and the Linux core should be made to fit the configure of the hardware correspondingly and the need of embedded application,so that to build a compatible embedded Linux system.
