Black is depressing while light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active. A yellow room makes us feel more cheerful and more comfortable than a dark green one does, and a red dress adds warmth and cheer to sad winter days. It is a fact that factory workers work better, harder and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or dark grey.
Remember, then, that if you feel low, you can always brighten your day or your life with a few colorful things. Also remember that you will know your friends (and your enemies) better when you find out what colors they like and dislike. And don’t forget that anyone can guess a lot about you when you choose a piece of handkerchief.
67. 小题1:According to the passage, men’s 110-meter hurdles Olympic champion and world record holder Liu Xiang is most likely to love the color ______.
A.black | B.grey | C.green | D.brown |
A.Because workers tend to prefer orange to other colors. |
B.Because other colors are forbidden in factories. |
C.Because less accidents happen due to the introduction of orange machines. |
D.Because orange machines are easier to clean. |
A.It’s possible to cheer you up by enjoying some colorful pictures. |
B.You can know your friends better through the color they like or dislike. |
C.Some people are born with their colorful preference. |
D.One’s color preference is always changeable. |

举一反三
My friend Jean was divorced after a thirty-year marriage that produced three daughters, one son and eight grandchildren. Because she actually raised them single-handedly, Jean was hurt and angry that the children didn"t take her part after the divorce. For months she refused to attend any family celebration to which her former husband Jim was invited. When I reasoned that her children’s understanding of the relationship with and between the parents was probably altogether different from hers, she stuck to the belief that she was right.
One day Jean called in tears. “Saturday is my granddaughter"s birthday, and I want to be with her, but I can’t bring myself to face my former husband.” “Jim isn"t the problem,” I said gently, “it"s false pride. Instead of holding on to the painful past, which is over and done, let the feelings go and get on with your life. You"re depriving yourself of the joy of sharing in these important occasions, while Jim feels free to experience them. Tell me, would you rather be right, or be happy?”
That must have done the trick because when Saturday arrived, Jean appeared at her daughter"s home carrying her famous chocolate-chip cookies and a beautiful birthday
cake.
How great it feels to let go! And the more we practice the art of letting go of all negativity, the better able we become to devote our thoughts, our time, and our energy to living joyfully in the present, what ever age we happen to be.

D.Jean had been too tough on Jim before they divorced. |
A.persuading yourself to get | B.taking away from yourself |
C.taking false pride of yourself | D.talking yourself into showing |
A.Jean and Jim should be remarried |
B.a broken family could live together in peace |
C.to be happy is more meaningful than to be right |
D.everyone should look into the future |
Katherine took seriously the idea that the prisoners are human beings ,worthy of attention and respect .She regularly visited inside the walls of Sing Sing. She encouraged the prisoners, took things to them and spent time listening to them. Most importantly, she cared about them. And as a result, they cared deeply about her.
Then one night in October of 1937, news was "telegraphed" between the prison cells that Katherine had been killed in an accident. The prisoners asked the warden to allow them to attend her funeral. He agreed to their strange request and a few days later the south gate of Sing Sing swung slowly open.Hundreds of men who had committed almost every crime imaginable marched slowly out of the prison, later gathered again at the gate and returned to their cells. There were so many that they proceeded unguarded. But no one tried to escape. If he had, the others might have killed him immediately. So devoted were they to Katherine Lawes, the woman who daily walked into Hell to show the men a piece of Heaven.
Katherine" s strength was to see the men less as prisoners and more as individuals.Thomas Moore once said, "We can only treat badly those things or people whose souls we show no respect for."

Dad always told me never to ever reveal my true opinions towards other people if such opinions are negative. He said this is the “Chu Shi Zhe Xue”, the philosophy of dealing with social network.
It seems that everybody here just follows this philosophy very, very well.
Friends. I would say that if I were given true friendship I would definitely treasure it with my greatest care. If I really regard someone as my close friend, I would never leave her alone whenever she"s in need, either financially or mentally. And I always believe, as long as I treat people with whole-hearted honesty, I would have some rewards—at least, just ONE true friend of the same gender(性别).
Sometimes I just miss my friends in China. Perhaps when we became friends, we were still young, too young to have been polluted by any dirt in the society. But here, it is simply different. It seems that all of us have learnt how to SURVIVE in a foreign land and such an experience actually makes us learn how to extract (榨取) the most benefits from the surroundings in order to survive.
All are friends around me. I"ve looked through all the dark sides of their personalities and yet I have to pretend that I know nothing. THEY ARE GOOD. THEY ARE GOOD. AND WE ARE FRIENDS. And then I can make myself comfortable enough to talk to people I hate the most. And of course, they don"t say any words truly from their hearts. Neither do I.
But, sometimes I just feel unwilling to talk to these people. Sometimes, I just want to be alone, quietly, without being forced to listen to their gossip or other useless words.
“Standing on a mountain high
Looking at the moon through a clear blue sky
I should go and see some friends
But they don"t really comprehend”
Jascha Richter expresses my feelings also.

Back in 2003 I had a pet rabbit named Alaska.Due to the rules the landlord had set,he had to be kept in the basement(地下室).One night I went downstairs to feed him.Keep in mind I’ve always thought the basement was frightening. As I was facing his cage and putting the bowl of water inside,a big shadow appeared behind me,as if a big, tall man were standing behind me.I turned around and nobody was there, but I got the distinct(清晰的)feeling that I was being watched.I basically dropped the water bowl and ran upstairs shouting for my mom.Ever since then I can’t go down there alone.
Once I was trying to get to sleep, and I slept with the lights off.All of sudden I wanted to leave the room eagerly, but I couldn’t get out of my bed,I was too scared. The feeling of someone looking closely at me was so upset,I was physically afraid to move or breathe.I opened my curtains to let the street light in,thinking the light would help me feel better to move. That did nothing.I must have sat there on my bed for about fifteen minutes before I got up.I didn’t sleep in there that night.I’ve never felt anything so upset!
Then there are all the little things, like seeing things in the comer of my eye, hearing doors open or close when I’m home alone, and the feeling of being watched.Once when my sister wasn’t home(we share a room)I heard someone breathing from her bed and heard the sheets rustle(沙沙声).Last week,I felt someone patting me in the shoulder when I was alone in my room.Sometimes I’ll be looking something and I’ll see one or more contorted(扭曲的),angry faces.
I realize that when one is looking for something to happen they can make things happen or imagine it.These are the moments in which I know nothing was imagined,so I wanted to share them and get your opinions. Thanks so much.

The next day I sat down, with almost a hundred other candidates, for the intelligence test.I must have done all right because after about half an hour’s wait I was sent into another room for a psychological test. This time there were only about fifty candidates. The interviewer sat at a desk.Candidates were signaled forward to occupy the seat opposite him when the previous occupant had been dismissed, after a greater or shorter time.Obviously the long interviews were the more successful ones. Some of the interviews were as short as five minutes.Mine was the only one that lasted a minute and a half.
I can remember the questions now:“Why did you leave your last job?”“Why did you leave your job before that?”“And the one before that?”I can’t recall my answers, except that they were short at first and grew progressively shorter. His closing statement,I thought, evealed(揭示)a lack of sensitivity which helped to explain why as a psychologist,he had risen no higher than the underground railway.“You’ve failed the psychological test and we are unable to offer you a position.”
Failing to get that job was my low point.Or so I thought, believing that the work was easy.Actually, such jobs—being a postman is another one I still desire—demand exactly the sort of elementary yet responsible awareness that the habitual dreamer is least qualified to give. But I was still far short of full self-understanding.I was also short of cash.
