When I was young, I belonged to a club that did community service work. There was one specific 36 that was unusual for me. I spent three or four hours handing out warm dinner to the homeless 37 in the streets. After that I went to a homeless shelter not far from the Bay Bridge. I was in high school and at the time my sister was too young to 38 . She wanted to help, 39 she made many chocolate chip cookies for me to 40 and hand out to people. When getting to the shelter, I passed out the 41 . I began making sandwiches and 42 them with the crowd. Even though it was only October, my students were already whispering about Christmas plans. With each passing day everyone became more anxious, waiting for the final school bell.Upon its 36 everyone would run for their coats and go home, everyone except David David was a small boy in ragged clothes.I had often wondered what kind of home life David had, and what kind of mother could send her son to school dressed so 37 for the cold winter months, without a coat, boots, or gloves. But something made David 38 .I can still remember he was always 39 a smile and willing to help.He always stayed after school to straighten chairs and mop the floor. We never talked much.He 40 just simply smile and ask what else he could do, then thank me for letting him stay and slowly head for home Weeks passed and the 41 over the coming Christmas grew into restlessness until the last day of school before the holiday break.I smiled in 42 as the last of them hurried out of the door.Turning around I saw David quietly standing by my desk. I took the box from him, thanked him and slowly unwrapped it.I lifted the lid and to my surprise saw nothing.I looked at David’s smiling face and back into the box and said, "The box is nice, David, but it’s 45 ." "Oh no it isn’t" said David."It’s full of love.My mum told me before she died that love was something you couldn’t see or touch unless you know it’s there." Tears filled my eyes 46 I looked at the proud dirty face that I had rarely given attention to.After that Christmas, David and I became good friends and I never forgot the meaning 47 the little empty box set on my desk.

On my first trip in the United States , I went to San Antonion . I was on foot . So I went to only three places there : the Alamo , the River Walk , and the Art Gallery . I especially enjoyed visiting the Alamo , a well- known building in America . When I arrived at the Alamo , I was deeply impressed because it was well kept and in good shape . The Alamo was erected in about 1722, was later used as a fort(保垒) , and has been kept as a state monument(纪念馆) to the Texan War of Independence against Mexico . During the battle , all of the Texan defenders were killed . I was surprised at the exhibition of rifles , guns , cannons and swords . I was especially attracted by the paintings of a war . The paintings expressed the feelings of a painter very well . Even thought about 160 years have passed since the Battle of the Alamo , the exhibit is well kept . When I came out after seeing the exhibition , I felt as if I had a victory . The outer wall of the Alamo was destroyed here and there . When I touched the wall , I could feel the damage . After the war , little remained of the Alamo . All of the windows and doors were destroyed . The top part of the gate way disappeared without a trace(遗迹) . I will remember the Alamo forever . Then one day, a wind picked him up and threw him on an open field under the sun.Later, he was given rain. Years later he saw a traveler sitting by his side.“Thank God for this.I really need some rest,” he heard the traveler say. “What are you talking about?” the seed quickly asked. He thought the man was making fun of him.No one ever spoke to him like that. “Who just spoke?” the shocked man asked. “It is me.A seed.” `“A seed?” The man looked at the big tree.“Are you joking?
