A great French writer has said that we should help everyone as much as we can because we often need help ourselves. The small even can help the great. About this, he told the following story. An ant was drinking at a small river and fell in. she tried her best to reach the side, but she couldn’t move at all. The poor ant got too tired but was still doing her best when a big bird saw her. With a pity, the bird threw a piece of wood. With it the ant reached the bank again. While she was resting and drying herself in grass she heard a man coming up. He was walking without shoes on his feet and carrying a gun in his hand. As soon as he saw the bird, he wished to kill her, and he would certainly do so, but the ant bit(咬) him in one of his feet and at that moment the bird flew away at once. It was an animal much weaker and smaller than the bird herself that had saved her life. 小题1: According to the French writer, we often need help from others, so we should _____ .A.help others as much as we can | B.help the people who may be useful to us | C.get as much help as we can | D.first need to help ourselves | 小题2:Why could the bird fly away at once?A.Because the bird could fly very fast. | B.Because the man hurt his feet himself. | C.Because the man didn’t want to kill her. | D.Because the ant bit the man in one of his feet. | 小题3:The writer tells this story to show ____ _. Chances I really love my job because I enjoy working with small children and like the challenges and awards from the job. I also think my work is important. There was a time when I thought I would never have that sort of career(职业). I wasn"t an excellent student because I didn"t do much schoolwork. In my final term I started thinking what I might do and found I didn"t have much to offer. I just accepted that I wasn"t the type to have a career. I then found myself a job, looking after two little girls. It wasn"t too bad at first. But the problems began when I agreed to live in, so that I would be there if my boss had to go out for business in the evening. We agreed that if I had to work extra hours one week, she"d give me time off the next. But unfortunately, it didn"t often work out. I was getting extremely tired and fed up, because I had too many late nights and early morning with the children. One Sunday, I was in the park with the children, and met Megan who used to go to school with me. I told her about my situation. She suggested that I should do a course and get a qualification(资格证书)if I wanted to work with children. I didn"t think I would be accepted because I didn"t take many exams in school. She persuaded me to phone the local college and they were really helpful. My experience counted for a lot and I got on a parttime course. I had to leave my job with the family, and got work helping out at a kindergarten. Now I"ve got a fulltime job there. I shall always be thankful to Megan. I wish I had known earlier that you could have a career, even if you aren"t top of the class at school. 小题1:What is the author"s present job?A.Working parttime in a college. | B.Helping children with their schoolwork. | C.Looking after children at a kindergarten. | D.Taking care of children for a family. | 小题2:When staying with the two girls" family, the author________.A.was paid for extra work | B.got much help from her boss | C.took a day off every other week | D.often worked long hours | 小题3:Why did the author leave her first job?A.She decided to attend a parttime course. | B.She found a fulltime job. | C.She was fed up with children. | D.She needed a rest after working extra hours. | 小题4:What has the author learned from her own experiences?A.Qualifications are necessary for a career. | B.Hard work makes an excellent student. | C.One must choose the job she likes. | D.Less successful students can still have a career. |

When something goes wrong, it can be very satisfying to say, “Well, it’s soandso"s fault.”or “I know I"m late, but it"s not my fault; the car broke down.”It is probably not your fault, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you stop focusing on whom to blame and start focusing on how to remedy the situation. This is the winner"s key to success. Winners are great at overcoming problems. For example, if you were late because your car broke down, maybe you need to have your car examined more regularly. Or,you might start to carry along with you the useful phone numbers, so you could call for help when in need. For another example, if your colleague causes you problems on the job for lack of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability rather than simply blame the person. Ask to work with a different person, or don"t rely on this person. You should accept that the person is not reliable and find creative ways to work successfully regardless of how your colleague fails to do his job well. This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using your skills and talents so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don"t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better at seeing those problems as challenges and opportunities to develop their own talents. So,stop focusing on “whose fault it is.”Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stone for success. 小题1:According to the passage, winners __________.A.meet with fewer difficulties in their lives | B.have responsible and able colleagues | C.blame themselves rather than others | D.deal with problems rather than blame others | 小题2:The underlined word remedy in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to __________.A.improve | B.avoid | C.accept | D.consider | 小题3:When your colleague brings about a problem, you should __________.A.blame him for his lack of responsibility | B.tell him to find the cause of the problem | C.find a better way to handle the problem | D.ask a more able colleague for help | 小题4:Which of the following is the best title for the passage?A.A Winner"s Opportunity. | B.A Winner"s Problem. | C.A Winner"s Secret. | D.A Winner"s Achievement. |
