As I looked 22 the car window, there was a small park where I saw a little boy, around two years old, 23 freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short 24 . The boy had a big smile on his face 25 he had just been set free from some sort of 26 . The boy would then fall to the grass, 27 , and without hesitation or without looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could again, still with a 28 on his face.
Kids, when they fall down, don"t view their falling down as failure, but 29 , they treat it as a learning experience. They try and try again until they 30 . While I was touched by the boy"s persistence, I was 31 touched by the manner in which he ran. With each attempt, he looked so 32 and so natural — no signs of fear, nervousness, or of being discouraged. His only 33 was to run freely and to do it as effectively as he could. He was just being a 34 — just being himself—being completely in the moment. He was not looking for 35 or was not worrying about whether 36 was watching. He didn"t seem to be bothered by the fact that maybe someone would see him 37 and that it would be 38 if he did fall. No, all that 39 to him was to accomplish the task, to feel the experience of running fully and freely. I learned a lot from that 40 and experience, and have successfully brought that lesson with me in my many pursuits(追求) in life.

试题【One afternoon, many years ago, I went to pick up my mother from work. I got ther】;主要考察你对题材分类等知识点的理解。[详细]
举一反三
I have mixed feelings about having the clock. I love it because it was my mom’s, but it also holds some bad memories.
You see, it chimes. It counts out the hour and rings once on the half hour. Or at least it used to. Now you never know what number it will ring.
When my mother was at home dying from cancer, she asked for the clock to be unplugged. Hearing the hours count down really angered and frightened her.
Mom passed away. I decided I wanted to get the clock fixed so I could remember the good hours we had with her.
I took it to a local clock shop the other day.
“I know this has no particular value as a clock, but it was my mom’s and I need to get it fixed,” I said to the shop owner.
I went on to describe the problem.
“We get a lot of these in,” he told me. “Here’s what I do. We remove the clock works (机件) and replace it with a battery-operated movement (机芯) that chimes electronically,” he told me.
“You can’t fix this?”
“No, we don’t have the time nor the parts.”
I thanked him and went home. I called a few other places and was told the same thing.
“How incredibly sad,” I told the last one disappointedly.
How incredibly sad that we have become a society that replaces craftsmanship with convenience and easy fixes. We copy the original instead of creating something new. We duplicate (复制); we don’t originate (发明).
Sadly, the same goes for our attitude to life itself.
Each of us is an original, one of a kind. But we find it so much easier to copy another style than to develop our own.
We are wannabes (崇拜别人的人) rather than hey-world-look-at-mes.
We fail to see the real value in who we are, so we spend our lives trying to be someone else.

B.Because it was the only thing that her mother had left her. |

D.Because it left the author with mixed feelings. |
A.The parts that the clock needed were electronic. |
B.It would cost a lot to repair the clock. |
C.They had never repaired a clock like this before. |
D.They could only make the clock electronic. |
A.criticize the irresponsible clock shop owners |
B.criticize people who do not value things with a history |
C.criticize people who do not have a creative attitude toward life |
D.criticize people’s ignorance of traditional craftsmanship |
It was a cold winter morning. Half asleep at the train station, I stared into the distance, 41 for the train to take me to my 42 in Boston. The world was quiet. The very few people on the street kept to themselves, 43 their steaming cups of coffee.
Reaching into my pocket as the 44 was getting close, my hand searched for the $ 20 bill to pay my fare. The pocket was 45 ! I searched through my bag and then I felt 46 . Unless the money dropped from the sky, I’d be 47 there. “What’s the matter?” A short, elderly man stood before me. “Oh, nothing…. Well, I 48 my money and now I can’t pay for the ticket. I’m going to 49 my match class, and the train is leaving.”
“Here, use this.” The man held a $ 20 bill. I looked up, 5 0 . People just didn’t do that anymore. Everyone worried about their own 51 , rarely stopping to think about others, especially teenage strangers. “Thank you, but no, I can’t.”
“ 52 it – go!” The man pushed me 53 the train. I bought a round – trip ticket, and he refused the change I 54 to give him back. I did not know what to say – a million thoughts raced through my mind, yet I stood 55 .
For the train ride I was wordless. I began to see the world through 56 eyes. That man made a difference with such a simple 57 .
A week later I was at the train station again, with an extra 20$ 58 I saw the man. And there he was. “Excuse me, sir, I believe I owe you this.” I 59 the money into his hand. Failing to refuse, he said, “Just remember to do the same for someone in your shoes someday.” I smiled, content.
The elderly man is my hero. For many, heroes are famous, but my hero is a 60 stranger who taught me a lesson in life. I will never forget his kindness.

Wings of Angel
I used to hate myself because I wasn’t “normal”. Everyone else could play on the monkey bars and ride on a bicycle, but not 37 . I had a severe spinal cord disorder (脊髓病) and I knew I would always be much 38 than others.
I hated going to school and I hated people 39 at me. I hated seeing others smiling broadly and standing straight and tall. And most of all, I hated looking in the 40 and seeing an ugly hunchback (驼背).
My friends found me distant because I didn’t let others get 41 to me. I thought I was going to go on like this for the rest of my life 42 Angela appeared.
That afternoon, I was sitting by myself in a corner of the school — a spot where no one would 43 me. That’s when I first heard her voice.
“Hi. Can I sit down?”
I raised my head and there she was, with an irresistible smile on her round face.
“What are you looking at?” she asked.
“Ants.”
“What are they doing?”
“No idea.”
“I bet they’re playing games and making friends. Don’t you think so?”
That was how our 44 started and it didn’t stop. We talked about everything under the sun—the ants, the clouds, my situation — until it was sunset.
Then suddenly, she saw my 45 . She just stared.
My heart sank. What I feared most had happened and I knew for sure she would 46 me now.
She stood up, pointed at my back and said, “I know 47 your back is hunched.”
I closed my eyes like a criminal waiting to be sentenced(审判). I begged in my heart for
her to 48 , but she just kept on going. “I know what you’ve got in there. Do you?”
“No,” I answered weakly.
She bent and 49 my ears.
“Your back is hunched because you’ve got a pair of wings from the angels.”
I was 50 .I looked into her eyes and her kindness touched my heart. From that day on, I started to learn to 51 myself because I have the wings of an angel and a kind-hearted friend.

F. You aren"t stuck in any situation
Life is the greatest teacher
There always comes a moment when I wonder where I will end up and this moment always serves as a strong motivation for me to learn life lesson. I"ve learned a great many things, but these are the lessons that I wish I"d learned earlier:
小题1:_________
There was a time when everyone"s opinion was mine as well. Whatever preferences I formerly held were dashed in the face of another"s. This most likely came from a need to please others. Remember that your opinion matters just as much as the next guy"s, whether they make more money than you or are less popular than you. Everyone"s opinion holds the same weight.
小题2:_________
Drama, chaos, and emotional unrest — these were what took up most of my time as a teenager. If I had heard someone said bad things behind my back, I"d be angry. Go crazy. Looking back on those tantrums now, I"m not too surprised. After all, when you have little self control, anything is possible. The lesson here is, remain aware of how you react.
小题3:_________
Will one small argument among friends decide the fate of the entire universe? In my world it felt like it. I just wanted so much to be right and for them so much to be wrong. But in the end, it only resulted in me wasting my time and in the other person storming off in frustration. Is there really a point to arguing? Unless it"s absolutely necessary, I"ve learned that it"s better to hold your breath on things you can"t control at all. Arguing to change someone"s mind is one of them.
小题4:_________
I"m not saying every parent wants what"s best for you (there are outliers), but in general, parents do what they do for you in your best interest. My parents used to make me do the dishes, cook dinner, sweep the floors, mow the lawn, take out the garbage… the list goes on and on. And at every turn, I"d whine and complain. I"d eventually end up doing it. Now, I honestly see the value in having learned those skills. I can efficiently cook and clean up after myself.
小题5:_________
Whenever I’d lose a friend, get an awful grade, or disappoint my parents, I stewed in my own muck. Waiting for the bad moments to go away seemed to be the only solution. Fortunately, I know now that you don’t have to be stuck in bad situations. You can go out and create better ones. It all depends on perspective; on how you see the situation. Viewing everything as a learning experience makes life more pleasurable, even during the hard times. You aren"t stuck. You can move on.
I"m glad to have learned these lessons the way I did. Each experience helped shape me to become a better person. I don"t know if any young people are reading this, but if they are, I"d like to say this: “Listen to life and its experiences. Everyone goes through mostly the same things.”
Early last season, I wrote a column about an act of kindness I had seen Jordan do to a disabled child outside the Stadium. After it ran ,I got a call from a man in the western suburbs. He said, “I read what you wrote about Jordan, but I thought I should tell you another thing I saw.” Here it comes, I thought. It always does. Write something nice about a person, and people call you up to say that the person is not so nice.
A few weeks later Jordan and I were talking about something else before a game, and I brought up what the man had said. Was the man right? Has Jordan really been talking to those two boys in that poor and dirty neighborhood?
“Not two boys,” Jordan said, “but four.”
And he named them. He said four names.
And what did they talk about?
“Everything,” Jordan said. “I’ve asked to see their grades so that I can check whether they’re paying attention to their schoolwork. If it turns out one or two of them may need teaching, I make sure they get it.”
It’s just one more part of Michael Jordan’s life, one more thing that no one knows about, one more thing Jordan does right. The NBA season is over now, and those boys have their memories. So do I! When the expert reviewers begin to turn against Jordan, as they surely will, I’ll think about those boys under the streetlight, waiting for the man they know to come, for someone they can depend on.

A.Jordan is not such a great person. |
B.Jordan deserves the admiration he had from others. |
C.Jordan is always ready to make friends with young people. |
D.Jordan is always misunderstood by expert reviewers. |
A.Published. | B.Finished. | C.Disappeared. | D.Drove |
A.He would like to keep the promise he had made. |
B.He thought it was time to help the disabled children. |
C.He hated to see Jordan become someone else’s target. |
