阅读理解。     I know what you"re thinking: pizza (比萨饼)? For breakfast? But the truth is that you can have last
night"s leftovers in the a.m. if you want to.
I know lots of women who skip breakfast (不吃早餐), and they have a ton of different excuses for
doing it. Some say they don"t have time. others think they"re "saving" calories (卡路里), still others just
don"t like breakfast food.
But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when you"re trying to lose weight.
"Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all," says Katherine
Brooking, R.D, who developed the super-easy eating plan for this year"s "SELF CHALLENGE". And even
pizza can be healthy if it"s loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece.
Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research
shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of
Southern California found that breakfast skippers have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who
regularly have a morning meal.
So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast
altogether, and have just coffee or orange juice. I say, try heating up last night"s leftovers-it may sound
crazy, but if it works for you, do it! I find if I tell myself, "You can always eat it tomorrow," I put away
the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it…you may save yourself some pre-bedtime calories.
And watch your body gain the fat-burning effects. 1. The word "leftovers" in Paragraph 1 probably means ____. A. food remaining after a meal
B. things left undone
C. meals made of vegetables
D. pizza topped with fruit 2. What can we infer from the text? A. Working women usually have breakfast in a hurry.
B. Many people have wrong ideas about breakfast.
C. There are some easy ways of cooking a meal.
D. Eating vegetables helps save energy. 3. According to the last paragraph, it is important to ____. A. eat something for breakfast
B. be careful about what you eat
C. heat up food before eating it
D. eat calorie-controlled food 4. The text is written mainly for those ____. A. who go to work early
B. who want to lose weight
C. who stay up late
D. who eat before sleep
答案
1-4: A B A B

阅读理解。     "Old wives tales" are beliefs passed down from one generation to another, For Example, most of us
remember our parents" telling us to eat more of certain foods or not to do certain things. Is there any truth
in these teachings? Some of them agree with present medical thinking, but others have not passed the test
of time.
Did your mother ever tell you to eat your carrots because they are good for your eyes? Scientists now
report that eating carrots can help prevent a serious eye disease called macular degeneration. Eating just one
carrot a day can reduce the possibility of getting this disease by 40%. Garlic (蒜) is good for you, too. It
can kill the type of virus that causes colds.
Unfortunately, not all of Mom"s advice passed the test of medical studies. For example, generations of
children have been told not to go swimming within an hour after eating. But research suggests that there is
no danger in doing so. Do sweets cause tooth problems? Well, yes and no. Sticky sweets made with grains
tend to cause more problems than sweets made with simple sugars.
Even though science can tell us that some of our traditional beliefs don’t hold water, there is still a lot of
truth in the old wives" tales. After all, much of this knowledge has been accumulated (积累) from thousands
of years of experience in family health care. We should respect this body of knowledge even as we search
for clear scientific support to prove it true or false.1. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?A. Eating garlic is good for our eyes.
B. Sticky sweets are damaging to our teeth.
C. Swimming after a meal is dangerous.
D. Carrots prevent people from catching colds. 2. The author develops the third paragraph mainly _____. A. by cause and effects
B. by order in space
C. by order in time
D. by examples 3. The phrase "hold water" in the last paragraph most probably means "_____". A. to be believable
B. to be valuable
C. to be admirable
D. to be suitable 4. What is the author"s attitude toward "old wives" tales" in the text? A. So objective
B. Objective
C. Dissatisfied
D. Curious

阅读理解。     All too often, a choice that seems sustainable (可持续的) turns out on closer examination to be problematic.
Probably the best example is the rush to produce ethanol (乙醇) for fuel from corn. Corn is a renewable
resource-you can harvest it and grow more, almost limitlessly. So replacing gas with corn ethanol seems like
a great idea.
One might get a bit more energy out of the ethanol than that used to make it, which could still make ethanol
more sustainable than gas generally, but that"s not the end of the problem. Using corn to make ethanol means
less corn is left to feed animals and people, which drives up the cost of food. That result leads to turning the
fallow land -including, in some cases, rain forest in places such as Brazil-into farmland, which in turn gives
off lots of carbon dioxide (CO) into the air. Finally, over many years, the energy benefit from burning ethanol
would make up for the forest loss. But by then, climate change would have progressed so far that it might not
help.
You cannot really declare any practice "sustainable" until you have done a complete life-cycle analysis of its
environmental (环境的) costs. Even then, technology and public keep developing, and that development can
lead to unforeseen and undesired results. The admirable goal of living sustainably requires plenty of thought on
an ongoing basis. 1. What might directly cause the loss of the forest according to the text? A. The growing demand for energy to make ethanol
B. The increasing carbon dioxide in the air
C. The greater need for farmland
D. The big change in weather. 2. The underlined word "it" in the second paragraph refers to "_____." A. the energy benefit
B. the forest loss
C. climate change
D. burning ethanol 3. The author thinks that replacing gas with corn ethanol is _____. A. impractical
B. acceptable
C. admirable
D. useless 4. What does the author mainly discuss in the text? A. Technology
B. Sustainability
C. Ethanol energy
D. Environmental protection

Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature .However, whether you are on the mountains,
in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence
on the environment.
Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside,
but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its
courses (球场)  in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions
of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.
There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today.
You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about
resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it
will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel
less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.
Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying
products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be "green gyms". They are better replacements
for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the
countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best
of all, it"s free.

C. it uses fewer resources
D. it is recommended by experts

You"ve probably heard countless times how exercise is "good for you", but do you know that it can
actually help you feel good, too? Getting the right amount of exercise can speed up your energy levels
and even help you to feel better emotionally.
However, like all good things, it"s possible to overdo on exercise. Although exercising is a great way
to maintain a healthy weight, exercising too much to lose weight isn"t healthy. The body needs enough
calories to function properly. Remember that you"re still growing and will continue to do so throughout
your teen years. You"ll need the energy to fuel the growth.
Exercising too much in an effort to burn calories and lose weight can be a sign of an eating disorder.
If you have any doubts about how much you should be exercising, talk with a school nurse or family
doctor. And if you ever get the feeling that your exercise is in charge of you rather than the other way
around, talk with your doctor, a parent, or another adult you trust.
Considering the benefits to the heart, muscles, and mind, it"s easy to see why exercise is wise. If you
exercise now, keep it up as you become an adult (this is often the biggest exercise challenge for people
as they get busy with college and careers). One of the great things about exercise is that it"s never too
late to start. And don"t forget that even small things can count as exercise when you"re starting out-like
taking a short bike ride or sweeping fallen leaves. Even walking your dog counts as part of your 60 minutes
a day of exercise (and your vet will tell you that animals need workouts just like humans do, so if your
family dog is fat, he"ll benefit from your dedication, too).
1. Why should teens not exercise too much?
A. Because it causes their body to work disorderly.
B. Because it gets them to have an unhealthy weight.
C. Because it will make them become too thin.
D. Because it burns the energy they need to grow up.
2. The underlined part in Para.3 means that _____.
A. you are charged for your exercise
B. you manage how much exercise you need
C. you are greatly addicted to exercising
D. you do some exercise free of charge
3. What is the biggest challenge for people who want to exercise?
A. To find enough time to exercise.
B. To continue to exercise the whole life.
C. To own suitable equipment for exercising.
D. To find a person to exercise together.
4. The subject discussed in Paragraphs 2-3 is that _____.
A. it is not good for you to exercise too much
B. it is helpful to lose weight by exercise
C. it is a good thing to exercise every day
D. it is good for your pet to exercise every day
