任务型阅读。
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。     Beggars are often seen sitting under blankets with heads sadly bowed as people pass them by in
Cambridge"s market center. Some ask people passing by for money and some just sit and wait to be
given money. A few use aggressive behavior to earn money.
To solve the problem of aggressive begging,an "alternative giving" plan has been suggested. Ten blue
money boxes will be placed in busy places such as the market and the railway station. It aims to
encourage people not to give money directly to beggars but instead to give generously to local homeless
causes.
Supporters of this plan think it will be an effective way to solve the beggars" alcohol and drug problems. But the police oppose(反对) the plan arguing that beggars who are lack of
cash may turn to criminality( 犯罪) to feed their addictions. The homeless charity "Crisis" said the success
of any plan will depend on its style. They think that imaginative and positive plans can help create local
understanding and sympathy instead of hardness. Most of the beggars dislike the plan because they think
they will not get enough money from the boxes to cover their showers, food, and clothes.
Begging is a big social problem both in developing and developed countries. Governments must play
a big role in solving this problem. Training beggars to work and helping them to find appropriate jobs is
one option. This is especially true for developing countries where many low-skill jobs exist. The general
community should also be educated to see beggars not as dirty and dangerous, but as people who need
understanding and help.

     认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。注意。每个空格只填1个单词。
You probably have lists of remember and steps to follow in order to have the best pet-friendly trip.
There are, however, a few things that are best left at home. Here are a few things to forget when you"re
traveling with pets. Forgetting them will make your trip run more smoothly and more effectively.
     Time
Traveling with pets will take longer and will have unexpected turns. In reality, forgetting about time
means leaving impatience behind. Don"t be in a rush. Your pets will require more extra stops than you
will, and they"ll often surprise you with unpredictable delays. Plan on leaving early and arriving later and
you"ll be right on time.
     Anger
Getting angry at the delay will only make matters worse. Your feelings can add unnecessary stresses
to you and your pets" travel experience. If you feel yourself becoming out of control, stop and take a
deep breath. Your pets have little control over their emotions, bowel movements, or motion sickness
when traveling. Remember to be kind and understanding at all times, especially when under pressure.
     Work Attitude
This may seem like a no-brainer, but when you are traveling, leave your work attitude behind.
Traveling is not a task to be accomplished; it can be an enjoyable and memorable experience for both
you and your pets as long as you have the right attitude.
     Control
Part of the joy of traveling with pets is dealing with the unexpected. You can"t control everything and
trying to do so will only end in frustration and anger. Knowing that things will happen beyond your
control will bring great relief to you and your pets. Messes happen; accidents happen. Once you accept
that, traveling with your pets will be far easier to manage.
     Selfishness
Traveling with pets often requires an extreme amount of selflessness. Your pets rely on you to take
care of their needs, and sometimes you will need to put their needs before your own. Leave your selfish
ambitions behind when traveling with your pets. They need your attention and care more than anything
else because of the stresses and strains of traveling.
Traveling with pets can and will be a joy if you remember to leave these five items behind. It can be
difficult at times to handle, but the traveling will go well if you can manage to do so.

Sirs,
Your twelve thousand "Smart" watches were received by our company this morning. However, we
wish to make a number of complaints concerning the serious delay in delivery and your failure to carry
out our instructions regard to this order.
It was firmly pointed out from the beginning that the delivery date had to be less than six weeks from
the original order in order to satisfy our own customers" requirements. While we understand that delays
in production are occasionally unavoidable, we must point out that the major reason why the order was
placed with your company was that we were assured by you of its simplicity, and that your existing
stocks were sufficiently high to ensure immediate shipment. Late delivery of the goods has caused us to
disappoint several of our most valued customers, and will have an unfavorable effect on future orders.
The second complaint concerns the difference in colour between the watches we ordered and those
delivered. It was stated clearly in the order that watches in combinations of green/purple and orange/
purple only were required. However, only half the watches in the delivery received are of the colours
specified. Our Hong Kong agent informed you of the importance of following our instructions exactly,
since we consider there to be only a limited market in this country for watches of other colors at the
present time. Any watches that are not of the specified colours will, of course, be returned to you.
We are also somewhat concerned about the rather poor quality of the goods received, since it is
obvious that the watches that finally arrived have been made from not good enough materials and have
been produced to a lower standard than those in the sample. We have also found that a number of the
watches do not appear to be working. Whether the latter problem is due to poor production, or damage
in transportation is not yet clear, but we should like to point out that we feel this matter to be entirely your
fault.
As a result of the above problems, therefore, we feel that the most suitable course of action is to
return to you unpaid any of the goods considered unsatisfactory. We shall also, of course, be forced to
reconsider whether any further orders should be placed with your company.
We look forward to your early reply.
                                                                                                                    Yours sincerely,
                                                                                                                        John Smith

Jogging has become the most popular individual sport in America. Many theories, even some mystical
ones, have been advanced to explain the popularity of jogging. The plain truth is that jogging is a cheap,
quick and efficient way to maintain physical fitness.
The most useful sort of exercise is exercise that develops the heart, lungs, and circulatory (血液循环
的)systems. If these systems are fit, the body is ready for almost any sport and for almost any sudden
demand made by work or emergencies. One can train more specifically, as by developing strength for
weight lifting or the ability to run straight ahead for short distances with great power as in football, but
running trains your heart and lungs to deliver oxygen more efficiently to all parts of your body. It is worth
doing that: this sort of exercise is the only kind that can reduce heart disease, the number one cause of
death in America.
Only one sort of equipment is needed - a pair of good shoes. Physicians advise beginning joggers not
to try to run in tennis or gym shoes. Many design advances have been made in only the last several years
that make a pair of excellent running shoes indispensable (不可缺少的) if a runner wishes to develop as
quickly as possible, with as little chance of injury as possible. A pair of good running shoes will have soft
pads for absorbing shock, as well as slightly built-up heels and full heel cups that will give the knee and
ankle more stability. A wise investment in good shoes will prevent blisters (水泡)and the foot, ankle and
knee injuries and will also enable the wearer to run on paved or soft surfaces. No other special equipment
is needed; you can jog in any clothing you desire, even your street clothes.
It takes surprisingly little time to develop the ability to run. The American Jogging Association has a
twelve-week program designed to move from a fifteen-minute walk (which almost anyone can manage
who is in reasonable health) to a thirty-minute run. A measure of common sense, a physical examination,
and a planned schedule are all it takes.
1. The main purpose of this passage is to ________.
A. discuss jogging as a physical fitness program
B. describe the type of clothing needed for jogging
C. provide scientific evidence of the benefits of jogging
D. launch a worldwide physical fitness campaign
2. The most effective kind of exercise should be the one that ________.
A. trains the body for weight lifting
B. enables a person to run straight ahead
C. is both beneficial and inexpensive
D. develops the heart, lungs, and circulatory systems
3. What can we learn from the third paragraph?
A. For beginning joggers, tennis or gym shoes are better choices.
B. A pair of good running shoes is necessary for a runner to develop quickly.
C. A pair of good running shoes with a full heel-cup is designed to prevent shock.
D. Comfortable pads will give the knees and ankles more stability.
4. The author"s attitude towards jogging is ________.
A. doubtful
B. critical
C. approving
D. negative

Most people feel lonely sometimes, but it usually only lasts between a few minutes and a few hours.
This kind of loneliness is not serious. In fact,it is quite normal. For some people, though, loneliness can last
for years. Now researchers say there are three different types of loneliness.
The first kind of loneliness is temporary (暂时的). This is the most common type. It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. The second kind is situation, for example, family problem, the death of a loved one,or moving to a new place. Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical
problems, such as headaches and sleeplessness, it usually does not last for more than a year.
The third kind of loneliness is the most serious. Unlike the second type, chronic (长期的) usually lasts
more than two years and has no specific cause. People who experience habitual loneliness have problems
socializing and becoming close to others. Unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little
or nothing they can do to improve their condition.
Psychologists (心理学家) agree that one important factor in loneliness is a person"s social contacts,
for example, friends, family members, coworkers, etc. We depend on various people for different reasons.
For instance, our families give us emotional support, our parents and teachers give us guidance, and our
friends share similar interests and activities. However, psychologists have found that, though lonely people
may have many social contacts, they sometimes feel they should have more. They question their popularity (名气).
Psychologists are trying to find ways to help habitually lonely people for two reasons:they are unhappy and unable to socialize and there is a connection between chronic loneliness and serious illness such as
heart disease, while temporary and situational loneliness can be a sad,and sometimes dangerous condition.
1. How would you treat temporary loneliness according to the passage?
A. Talk to friends.
B. Just ignore it.
C. Go to see a doctor.
D. Ask your teachers for guidance.
2."It" in the last sentence of the second paragraph refers to ______.
A. temporary loneliness
B. situational loneliness
C. a new place
D. sleeplessness
3. Why do psychologists want to help chronically lonely people?
A. Chronic loneliness can cause family problems.
B. Chronic loneliness can cause serious illness.
C. Chronic loneliness can not be overcome.
D. Chronic loneliness is incurable.
4. Loneliness is divided according to______.
A. the time it lasts
B. the places where it appears
C. different people it happens to
D. different seasons when it appears
