nice to have someone help you when you"re cooking. But this voice is not from a man. You are alone!
Then where does it come from? Is it from a ghost? No, this isn"t a ghost kitchen-it"s the kitchen of the
future.
Scientists are working to improve everything in the kitchen, from fridges to tables, and even the ways
we cook. They are making a system. It will help a person cook a meal. You don"t need cookbooks. You
can hear how to cook food.
The fridge of the smart kitchen has a scanner. It looks at the foods in the fridge. It will order more milk
from the store when your milk has gone bad or there is no more in the fridge. The gloves will test the
temperature of everything they touch and say, "Need to cook longer" or "Hot and ready to eat". If you
leave them on the stove by mistake, they"ll say, "Fire!" Even the knives and spoons will speak. For
example, if your food is bad, the knives and spoons will tell you not to eat it.
The future kitchen may look wonderful, but it"s not cheap. The multimedia fridge costs about 8,000
dollars. So even though high-tech kitchens are no longer a dream, not everyone can afford one.

Anywhere you look, it is apparent there is a wide and deep selection of choices of a career.
Whether it"s a hand on position in construction or sitting behind the desk working on a computer,
everyone has some idea of what is an attractive career. However, while making a career choice is
not simply a matter of following a dream for some, for the majority it means a lot of research and
soul searching. Choosing and growing into the right career become one of the most important decisions
of an individual"s life.
It used to be that one followed in the footsteps of their father or grandfather or took over the family
business when it came to making a career choice. These days, a career path can start anywhere and
with a few years veer off into something totally different.
At the same time, career choices must be realistic a nd well thought out. It is not uncommon for
individuals to start down a career path and realize they have made a terrible mistake, feeling as if it
may be too late to turn around. Not only does a career choice put a person"s strongest skills and interests
to use, it is also something that they will be doing on a consistent basis to bring in income. This is why a
career choice can be such a personal decision. Formerly it used to be unusual for someone to change
occupations or careers more than once or twice in a lifetime, it is now even more unusual to keep the
same career during someone"s working life.
However, having a career that fits your interests and personality has been found to be important to
an individual"s well being. A person"s career is something they will closely identify with, maybe even
forming somewhat of an attachment.
There are a great many resources for helping individuals with choosing the right profession. A number of websites offering tools such as career tests and information, educational resources and resume services can be found throughout the web. It is important to research one vocation and career, in this dynamic
and changing economy and market place, choose the best from several related career choices.

that family members can call to check on you.
During an earthquake
If you are indoors, stay there. Get under and hold onto a desk or table, or stand against an interior
wall. Stay away from exterior walls, glass, heavy furniture, and stay away from windows and outside
walls and do not use the elevator.

However, that"s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn"t matter
if the words come from someone"s else or ourselves - the positive and negative effects are just as lasting.
We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We"re usually too embarrassed to admit it, though. In fact, we
really shouldn"t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy
habit.
This "self-talk" helps us motivate ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves
down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay
positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give
ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your
room, join me in saying "Good job!"
Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we
should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item
to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably
respond in a similar manner. Or harsh(刻薄的)and critical language will most likely cause the clerk to
be defensive.
Words possess power because of their lasting effect. Many of us regret something we once said.
And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it
loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn"t pass this test, then it"s better left unsaid.
Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when
we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem (自尊) and motivate others to do their best.
Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours.
B. inspiring words give us confidence
C. negative words may let us down
D. words have a lasting effect on us
B. we can benefit from talking to ourselves
C. talking to ourselves always gives us courage
D. it does no harm to have "self-talk" when we are alone
B. remind ourselves
C. make ourselves relaxed
D. give ourselves amusement
B. negative words may stimulate(刺激) us to make more progress
C. people tend to remember friendly words
D. it is better to think twice before talking to others
