enough. A new study from the University of Essex in Britain has shown that the more friends you
have in school, the more money you"ll earn later.
The idea that popularity could have a serious impact on one"s earning potential shouldn"t come as
too much of a surprise. The researchers noted that if you want to get ahead in life, social skills and
networking are easily as powerful as talent and hard work.
"If a person has lots of friends, it means that he or she has the ability to get along with others in all
kinds of different situations, " said Xu Yanchun, 17, from Nantou High School in Shenzhen, who totally
agreed with the recent finding. "Also, friends always help each other. They not only create wider social
circles for you but lift your mood when you occasionally feel depressed, " said Xu. She believed that all
this helps you "earn a higher salary".
Maybe that"s why some people think the younger generations are in the age of friendaholism(交友狂症). A woman even complained that the networking website Facebook"s 5,000friend limit was too low
for her large reserve of social contacts.
But what does a friend mean? Should friends be regarded as a form of currency?
"Call me uncool, but I think of a friend as an actual person with whom I have an actual history and
whom I enjoy actually seeing. It seems, however, that this is no longer the definition(定义)of "friend", "
said Meghan Daum, who works with The Los Angeles Times in the US.
Daum despised(鄙视)the idea that quantity trumps(胜过)quality in the age of friendaholism. She
thought the idea of friendship, at least among the growing population of Internet social networkers, was
to get as many of notreallyfriends as possible. For example, a friend might be someone you might know
personally but who could just as easily be the friend of a friend of some other Facebook friends you
don"t actually know.

D. Social skills are important.
B. If you want to win in life, social skills are as important as talent and hard work.
C. The young now have friendaholism.
D. Friends do not create your wider social circles but lift your mood when you occasionally
feel depressed.
B. Making friends can get a lot of money.
C. Making friends can make you work hard.
D. Making friends can improve your ability to work.
B. Subjective.
C. Neutral.
D. Optimistic.

because she wants to know if there is anything in particular that caused her to do this."

this ,you will end up in prison ,which will ruin your bright future you may have."

just may be an unavoidable part of growing up. And that"s a good thing. These are the first steps toward independence. Even young children have to challenge their parents sometimes.
Studies have shown the following: Although stressful, conflict is beneficial for children.
Learning to manage conflict is necessary for a child"s development.
Conflicts during the preschool years occur because children desire more attention than parents can or
should give.
If you understand why conflict occurs,it can minimize the conflicts between you and your children.
Conflict is a child"s attempt to develop a sense of self and how he or she learns to express his or her needs and ideas.Parents develop and drive this independence by putting children to the outside world both
formally and informally.
Conflict can grow out of different opinions or might just be a way to blow off steam (发脾气). In rare
situations, constant conflict between parents and children can indicate a deeper emotional problem.
Consult your doctor if this seems to be your situation.
It"s important to offer your child choices, which should be determined by age and developmental level.
The more responsible a child is, the more choices he or she gets in reward. You can threaten your child
with punishment, but often offering a choice will better improve angry situations.nConsequences and
rewards should have some meaning to your child.
Often a child"s adverse (敌对的) reaction when he or she hears the word "no" can be avoided by
giving the child an explanation as to why you have refused his or her request.

away. We thought of blankets, food and clothing. Our aim was not to find things we no
longer wanted, but things we use every day and would be useful to others.
We made up boxes with the things and added some small toys. Inside the boxes a simple
letter was placed, reading:
"Please take these items and know that your life is important. Times are difficult but
they will pass. We share what we have, believing it will matter. Use the blanket to stay warm.
Be safe and know that the human spirit can overcome anything. Don"t hold your head down.
Someday please do the same when you can. How you do it and when, your heart will tell you.
This kind act was not because the phone rang or for any reason. It was simply because
it was the right time to do. We have often seen homeless people at the park where we left
the belongings. The city would say that it isn"t a problem but I see the lives walking to and
from it.
I noticed that my wife had put her favorite green coat into one of the boxes. I asked if
she was sure about it and she simply replied that it had a hood (风帽). She liked the coat
but knew the hood could shelter (遮挡)someone from the rain.
We don"t know where these gifts of compassion(同情)will go. We never go back and
see what happens. It"s unimportant. The right things will find the right people and that is all
that counts. On the way my wife started to cry. When I asked why, she said because some
things felt so right.
B. They often threw the useless daily items away
C. They liked helping others by sharing their things
D. They often gave away the daily items they didn"t use
B. let the poor know who gave away the things
C. tell the poor how to use the items correctly
D. tell the poor to pass on the spirit to others
B. they had a good habit of saving things
C. they often received telephone calls for help
D. they hated being troubled by homeless people
B. Good behavior leading to happiness
C. The most important thing in our life
D. Happiness coming from sharing things
