Every day millions of letters go from one country to another. Letters mailed in Italy are received in Japan. Letters mailed in Canada are received in Africa. On the letters are many different kinds of stamps, bought in different countries.
The Universal Postal Union helps each letter get to the right place as quickly as possible. It sets up rules about the size and weight of letters, postcards, and small packages(包裹). It has rules that all countries must follow about international postal rates(费用).
One hundred years ago, international mail did not move so smoothly. One country did not always accept another country’s letters. Letters from some countries were too large to fit into the mailboxes of other countries. Letters travelled by many different routes(路线).Some were lost along the way.
Sometimes the person who sent the letter could pay only part of the postage. The person receiving the letter had to pay the rest.
The United States was the first to suggest that all countries work together to settle the questions of international mail. In 1974,men from twenty-four countries met in Switzerland to form the Universal Postal Union.Today, more than 120 nations belong to this union. Dalkoff wrote his chapter and turned it   30  .Today he can not recall anything   31

Four words.They   34    his life.

Over the rest of that year in school, he wrote many short stories and always brought them to school for Mrs.Brach to evaluate. She was   38    , tough and honest.“She was just what I

It has been difficult to sit on the bench the majority of my high school basketball career,to watch my team from the sideline and  36 why I am not good enough to be on the floor.  37 endless hours of work and devotion, pushing myself through drill after drill, the  38  thing I want is to be a cheerleader. The feeling of being  39  is sometimes too much and drives me to  40  on the spot. I often feel as though my efforts are wasted and my time is eaten away, devoted to  41   .
It is heartbreaking to be a spectator(旁观者) for the game I love, knowing that no one has enough  42  to give me the chance to  43  on the floor. Tears well up, but I hold them back. I shouldn’t be so  44  over something so silly.
Away from the game, it’s easier to put my thoughts together,  45  letting my emotions drive my reasoning. I consider  46  I am where I am. I have played football my whole life. I have a passion for the  47  and always have. There is nothing like the excitement of  48  : the swish of the net, the sweat rolling off my cheeks, even the bruises(青肿) are battle wounds worn  49  after every game.
Even if I don’t play much, I participate in every  50 . I am part of a team of girls who  51  together like a family. I am there for them,  52  they are for me.
Should I move on? Or should I stay with my team and pursue my passion just a little longer?
The decision isn’t difficult when I consider the  53  that being a part of a team brings me --- and not just any team,  54  my team. I love basketball and my teammates. When I think about that, my view from the bench really isn’t so bad  55  .

What is the hottest topic at your school recently? In Hangzhou Yongjin Middle School, it’s money. The school held an activity called “making money” last weekend. About 200 students of Senior 1 and Senior 2 were divided into 30 teams. They went out to make money by selling things. What did they choose to sell? Some sold newspapers; some chose bottled water; some sold environmentally friendly shopping bags and bamboo(竹子) baskets.
Hu Qing’s team decided to sell some useful books in front of the Children Activity Center. They thought parents would like to buy the books for their children. But unfortunately, they met urban management officers (城管). The officers asked them to leave. “We played hide-and-seek (捉迷藏) with the officers for the whole morning” said Hu. “Finally we had to give up.”
Wang Bing and her team sold ice cream in a square. They didn’t meet any officers. But few people were interested in what they were selling. The team then put up a board saying “For Country Kids”. It worked. More people came to their stall (小摊). A foreigner even gave them 100 yuan. “He didn’t want any change. He said he wanted to help the children,” said Wang. “We were touched.” Later that day they gave the 100 yuan and more to the “Project Hope” office.
Meng Zhaoxiang and his team were luckier. They sold all their cakes in four hours, spending 39.5 yuan and getting back 80 yuan. They made 40.5 yuan. “It was not easy to make the money,” said Meng. “Some people just looked. Others just tasted but didn’t buy. Now I know how hard it is for our parents to make money.”
