chosen field. If it means going back to college for 2 years of night school, could you do it ? If it means
reading a book a week for about 6 months in order to really master a new skill ? If you aren"t prepared to
do any of those things because they are outside of your comfort zone, then you can forget being succesful.
I guarantee you will never reach your goals in life, unless your goals are to be ordinary.
The biggest killer by far is the dreaded " comfort zone " where most people live in their entire life. And
the funny thing is that people just can"t wrap their heads around the fact that people who have reached
some success get tons of time to just relax, but only because they"ve earned it ! If you haven"t built a
successful business, or in some way built a career that allow you so much freee time, then you are stuck in
the grinding world of nine-to-five jobs everyone else. So how comfortable is that ?
So what can you do about it ? Well, find a way to make something happen in your life--- build a
business around your favourite hobby, write a book and publish it, or take a course in stock trading and
become an expert at that, working on making enough money to retire. If you don"t take massive action that
puts your way of your comfort zone, you will never be successful at much of anything. I promise--- and I
don"t make many promises !
Finding real happiness in life can be a mystery for many. That"s why I wrote The Road to Happiness
for those who want real success and happiness in life, including spirituality and all the gifts life has to offer.

It"s not a new phenomenon, but have you noticed how many nouns are being used as verbs? We
all use them, often without noticing what we"re doing.
I was arranging to meet someone for dinner last week, and I said “I’ll pencil it in my diary”, and
my friend said “You can ink it in”, meaning that it was a firm arrangement not a tentative one!
Many of these new verbs are linked to new technology. An obvious example is the word fax,
which is a shortening of facsimile originally, an exact copy of a book or document. We all got used
to sending and receiving faxes, and then soon started talking about faxing something and promising
we"d fax it immediately. So, nouns turn into verbs in two easy stages. Then along came email, and we
were soon all emailing each other madly. How did we do without it? I can hardly imagine life without
my daily emails.
Email reminds me, of course, of my computer and its software, which has produced another couple
of new verbs. On my computer I can bookmark those pages from the World Wide Web that I think
I"ll want to look at again, thus saving all the effort of remembering their addresses and calling them up
from scratch. I can do the same thing on my PC, but there I don"t bookmark; I favorite-coming from
“favorite pages”, so the verb is derived from an adjective not a noun. I wasn’t really sure whether
people said this, but someone told me recently that they had favorited a site I was looking for and so
they could easily give me its address.
In the late 1980s I noticed that lots of my friends had acquired pagers, and kept saying things like
“I’ll page you as soon as I know what time we’re meeting”. They couldn"t say it to me, though; I
refused to have one. So my children bought me a mobile phone, now known simply as a mobile and
I had to learn yet more new verbs. I can message someone, that is, I can leave a message (either
spoken or written)for them on their phone.Or I can text them, write a few words suggesting when
and where to meet, for example. How long will it be before I can mobile them, that is, phone them
using my mobile? I haven’t heard that verb yet, but I’m sure I will soon. Perhaps I’ll start using it myself!

foods in an attempt to appear more American,a new study finds. That"s one reason why immigrants
approach US levels of obesity within 15 years of moving to America.
The researchers also did an experiment that measured whether or not the threat of appearing
un-American influenced respondents" food choices. After being questioned about their ability to speak
English,75 percent of Asian-Americans identified a typical American food as their favorite. Only 25
percent of Asian-Americans who had not been asked if they spoke English did the same.
When their American identity was called into question during a follow-up study, Asian-American
participants also tended to choose typical American dishes, such as hamburgers and cheese
sandwiches. In that experiment, 55 Asian-Americans were asked to choose a meal from a local Asian or
American restaurant. Some participants were told that only Americans could participate in the study.
Those who chose the more typical American fare ended up consuming an extra 182 calories, including 12
grams of fat and 7 grams of saturated fat(饱和脂肪).
"People who feel like they need to prove they belong to a culture will change their habits in an
attempt to fit in,"said Sauna Cheryan,an author of the study and assistant professor of psychology at
the University of Washington." If immigrants and their children choose unhealthy American foods over
healthier traditional foods across their lives, this process of fitting in could lead to poorer health." Cheryan
added.
Social pressures, the study concluded, are at the heart of the problem."In American society today,
being American is associated with being white.Americans, who don"t fit this image even if they were
born here and speak English, feel that pressure to prove that they"re American," said Cheryan.

was introduced, most people did not like it as well as “regular” coffee, and it took several years to gain
general acceptance (introduction stage). At one point, though, instant coffee grew rapidly in popularity, and many brands were introduced (stage of rapid growth). After a while, people became attached to one
brand and sales leveled off (stage of maturity). Sales went into a slight decline when freeze-dried coffees
were introduced (stage of decline).
The importance of the product life cycle to marketers is this: Different stages in the product life cycle
call for different strategies. The goal is to extend product life so that sales and profits do not decline. One
strategy is called market modification. It means that marketing managers look for new users and market
sections. Did you know, for example, that the backpacks that so many students carry today were originally designed for the military?
Market modification also means searching for increased usage among present customers or going for a different market, such as senior citizens. A marketer may re-position the product to appeal to new market sections.
Another product extension strategy is called product modification. It involves changing product quality, features, or style to attract new users or more usage from present users. American auto manufacturers are using quality improvement as one way to recapture world markets. Note, also, how auto manufacturers
once changed styles dramatically from year to year to keep demand from falling.

many perfect-looking pop stars keep denying they have changed their facial appearance. Some even get
angry at any claims that they"ve been under the knife.
So it was a bit shocking when Chinese singer Heng Yue boldly announced last month she would have
plastic surgery, becoming the first celebrity to do so in the mainland.
Heng, with a broad range and penetrating(有穿透力的)voice, had been invited to sing the theme
song for Chen Kaige"s film The Promise and TV drama such as Ma Dashuai and Liu Laogen. But the
popularity of the songs shaded her. Her look just wasn"t very charming.
On March 24, Heng, who declined to reveal her age, endured2 18 operations on her face. It was a
comprehensive 8-hour plastic surgery job including nose reshaping and eye operations, said to cost around 650,000 yuan.
"I am so fond of singing," said Heng, "I"m hoping to go further in my career as a singer. However, I"ve
found my plain looks are making me less competitive."
Heng said that many TV shows were interested in her singing, but rejected her, saying that she looked
just so so. So the chance went to someone who looked more attractive or charming on camera.
Certainly, Heng"s not the only star to go seeking perfection. Tian Yungcheng, a doctor specializing in
plastic surgery, said that Heng was just one of about 200 stars he had operated on.
"Whenever we turn on the TV, mose of the celebrity faces on stage, I believe, have had operation."
Tian said.
"Pop stars are reluctant to tell anyone about their surgery since they"re under the pressure from the
public who find it hard to accept fake beauty. But I don"t see it as wrong if a person just wants to be

childhood behind. They become "kidults" (kid+adult). Being a kidult has become a lifestyle-choice
among young people across Asia.
Some kidults collect toys they once played with. Hello Kitty, Garfield, and Snoopy have many
adult fans around the world. It is not unusual to see a 20-something woman with a big, Garfield-shaped
cushion on her sofa or a Hello Kitty mobile phone accessory(附属品).
Other kidults still enjoy children"s stories and fairy tales. For example, Bloomsbury even published
the Harry Potter novels with an adult cover. That way, no one else on the subway will know that an
adult is actually reading a children"s book!
"Kidults can be like vitamins to society. Adults who value their childhood and hold on to pure,
child-like emotion may be needed in such a rough and dry society," said Lee Sojung, professor of
Foreign Studies at Hankuk University(韩国外国语大学). He added that kidult culture may fill the
generation gap between adults and kids. It could give children and their parents books, movies, and
cartoon shows to enjoy together. He may be right.
Tim Greenhalgh, a professor, explained that some kidults just refuse to grow up. They value
childhood because life in a busy and stressful city frightens them. Kidults would like to forget their
age and openly show their fear of society and adulthood.
B. Bloomsbury knows some kidults don"t want people to know that they are kidults
C. Kidults like to have vitamins very much
D. Some toys are so interesting that even adults like them very much

D. some people can never grow up
