阅读理解。     JOHANNESBURG (AP)-FIFA has finally acknowledged that there may be something wrong with the
Jabulani-the South Africa World Cup ball, but won"t act on the problem until after the tournament.
Many players have complained that the Jabulani is too unpredictable and flies through the air too easily.
"We"re not deaf," FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said Saturday at a news conference. "FIFA has
heard about what has been said about the ball."
Valcke said that FIFA would discuss the matter with coaches and teams after the World Cup, then meet
with the manufacturer Adidas. "There are rules for size and weight, but the ball has to be perfect," he added.
But Goalkeepers have complained about the ball at every recent World Cup match.
Brazil"s headcoach Dunga got into a quarrel with Valcke over the Jabulani before the tournament,
challenging FIFA officials to come out onto the field and attempt to control it. "The balls have changed over
the last couple of years, they have become a lot faster and in addition to that in Johannesburg we are playing
at an altitude of 1 700 meters, which makes the ball even faster," former Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn
said. "Thus the goalkeepers work even harder, but I don"t think that we can take the ball or the altitude as
excuses."
Scoring was down by 16 goals in the first round compared to 2006: 117-101. However, teams played a
more defensive style in the group stage in South Africa, so whether the ball was a major factor is difficult to
measure.
Adidas has made the World Cup ball since 1970. The German company says it doesn"t know what the
problem is about because all the 32 teams were given the ball before the tournament to test it. 1. Many players have complained that the Jabulani _____. A. flies too high in the air
B. is too colorful
C. has problems in size and weight
D. is difficult to control 2. When will FIFA seriously look into the problem about the Jabulani? A. During the South Africa World Cup.
B. After the South Africa World Cup.
C. During the second round of the South Africa World Cup.
D. Before the first round of the South Africa World Cup. 3. It can be inferred that in the past several World Cups _____. A. the ball became smaller
B. the ball became heavier
C. there was complaint about the ball
D. there was high praise for Adidas 4. Which of the following would Oliver Kahn agree with? A. The Jabulani is too unpredictable for goalkeepers.
B. Goalkeeper should work harder to control a faster ball.
C. FIFA should test the Jabulani before the World Cup.
D. Players should work hard to change their playing styles.

阅读理解。     The high-protein, low-carbohydrate (碳水化合物) diets many people turn to for weight loss might have
potentially harmful long-term effects on the colon, a small study indicates.
In the study, UK researchers found that a protein-heavy, low-carb diet created certain changes in the colon
that could contribute to colon cancer risk The study itself does not show whether high-protein diets really raise
the risk of any colon diseases, but the findings raise that possibility.
Diets relatively high in protein and lower in carbs have been shown to help heavy people lose weight. "People
should not be discouraged from losing weight," Dr Flint said. However, he added, they should make sure that
any weight loss plan includes adequate amounts of fiber and a high protein intake over months to years might
have ill effects on the colon.
The findings are based on 17 overweight men who followed three short-term diets: a one-week menu plan
to keep their weight; a four-week high-protein diet with reasonable amounts of carbohydrates; and a four-week
high-protein diet low in carbs.
On average, the study found when the men were on the high-protein diets, they had higher levels of
substances known as N-nitroso compounds (亚硝基化合物) and other metabolites (代谢物) that have been
linked to cancer. And when they were on the high-protein, low-carb diet, they had lowered amounts of fiber-
originated compounds thought to be protective against cancer.
Exactly what those changes might mean for a person"s health is not clear. But Flint said that the findings
suggest that people should be cautious about consuming too much protein and too little fiber over a long period.
In general, experts recommend that adults get about 28 grams of fiber per day-though it"s not known whether
that"s enough for someone on a high-protein weight-loss diet. 1. What is the best title of the text? A Plan a Healthy Diet

D. keep your figure 4. It can be inferred from the text that _____. A. we shouldn"t take the study seriously
B. weight problems are hard to solve
C. it is better to follow a low-carb diet
D. people should be cautious to lose weight 5. The author is intended to _____. A. advise how to lose weight

阅读下面短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。      LONDON/SAN FRANCISCO-The Sydney Opera House to San Francisco"s Golden Gate Bridge went
dark as people switched off lights in their homes and skylines dimmed around the world on Saturday to
show concern about global warming.
Up to 30 million people were expected to have turned off their lights for 60 minutes by the time "Earth
Hour"-which started in Suva in Fiji and Christchurch in New Zealand-completed its cycle westward. More
than 380 towns and cities and 3 500 businesses in 35 countries signed up for the campaign that is in its
second year after it began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia"s largest city.
"Earth Hour shows that every day people are prepared to pull together to find a solution to climate change.
It can be done." said James Leape of WWF International, which was running the campaign.
Lights at Sydney"s Opera House and Harbour Bridge were lowered as Australians held candle-lit beach
parties, played poker by candlelight and floated candles down rivers.
In Bangkok, some of the city"s business districts, shopping malls and billboards went dark, although street
lights stayed on. One major hotel invited guests to dine by candle light and reported brisk business.
In Copenhagen, the Tivoli Gardens and the Royal Palace and the opera darkened for an hour, along with
many street lights.
"In the central square a lot of people were standing looking at the stars," said Ida Thuesen, spokeswoman
for WWF Denmark. "It"s not often you can see the stars in a city."
"It is not just about turning off the lights, it is about raising awareness," San Francisco Mayor Gavin
Newsom said. "Energy efficiency is low-hanging fruit. Energy efficiency is the easiest thing we can do to
reduce global warming."
Buildings account for about one-third of the carbon emissions that scientists say will boost global average
temperatures by between 1.4 and 4.0 degrees Celsius this century, bringing floods and famines and putting
millions of lives at risk. Organizers of Earth Hour said that while switching off a light for one hour would
have little impact on carbon emissions, the fact that so many people were taking part showed how much
interest and concern about the climate crisis had taken hold. They said they planned a similar event March
28, 2009. 1. What"s the main idea of the first paragraph? (No more than 15 words.)
    __________________________________________________________________________________
2. According to the passage, what does this activity "Earth Hour" indicate? (No more than 15 words.)
