阅读理解。     Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The building next door was only a few feet away from mine.
There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her seated by her window each
afternoon, sewing or reading.
After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear
through the dirty window.I would say to myself,"I wonder why that woman doesn"t wash her window. It really
looks terrible."
One bright morning I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window on the inside.
Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a
rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her window was
clean!
Then it dawned on me. I had been criticizing (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers
through my own dirty window.
That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the
dirty window of my heart, through my own shortcomings?
Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (评判) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him through my own dirty window?" Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about
me more clearly. 1. The writer couldn"t see everything clearly through the window because_____. A. the woman"s window was dirty
B. the writer"s window was dirty
C. the woman lived nearby
D. the writer was near-sighted 2. The writer was surprised that _____. A. the woman was sitting by her window
B. the woman"s window was clean
C. the woman did cleaning in the afternoon
D. the woman"s window was still terrible 3." It dawned on me" probably means"______". A. I began to understand it
B. it cheered me up
C. I knew it grew light
D. it began to get dark 4. It"s clear that _______.A. the writer had never met the woman before
B. the writer often washed the window
C. they both worked as cleaners
D. they lived in a small town 5. From the passage, we can learn ______.A. one shouldn"t criticize others very often
B. one should often make his windows clean
C. one must judge himself before he judges others
D. one must look at others through his dirty window

阅读理解。     In life, people come across many experiences, which they remember throughout their lives. I had a similar
experience, too.
I was very excited. It was the day of my last paper of the final examination. My mind was full of thoughts
of how I would spend my vacation. I was especially excited of the invitation that my uncle had given me to stay with him for a few days in Cambridge.
I was prepared for the subject, physics. My friends and I were on the ground doing the last minute revisions and also discussing the questions that were supposed to come in the paper. Suddenly the bell rang and we got
into our classrooms. The teacher came and quickly handed out the answer paper and the question paper. The
paper was of two hours and some of the expected questions came. I finished it almost forty-five minutes earlier. But since it was a rule not to collect the answer paper before the allotted (规定的) time. the teacher was not
collecting and I had to sit till the time was over. I checked my paper twice and corrected some of the mistakes
in it. I started thinking about the place my friends and I had planned to go after the paper.
Though I was thinking for a long time, the time seemed to be endless. So I thought of drawing something
on the question paper and turned it overleaf. I was shocked to see that the page which I had supposed to be
blank had four more questions on it which carried 20 marks and would take at least half an hour to complete.
I had a quick glance at my watch. There were only 10 minutes left. I was so nervous that I was hardly in a
state to write anything. They were the sub-questions (小题) of the last question. Suddenly our physics teacher
came in and told all of us that in the last question, out of 6 sub-questions only 2 had to be solved. I felt very
much relieved.
Thereafter I never made such mistakes again. But I realized that my anxiousness and excitement could
have cost me to lose 20 marks and decided never to make such a mistake again.1. Which of the following statements is true? A. The writer didn"t work hard at physics.
B. The writer lost 20 marks for the last question.
C. The writer made some mistakes during the exam.
D. The questions on the paper were difficult for the writer.2. The underlined word "relieved" means ________. A. more nervous
B. less afraid
C. more surprised
D. less worried 3. We can infer from the passage that _______. A. the writer did 2 sub-questions of the last question
B. the writer turned overleaf to do the sub-questions
C. the writer spent 45 minutes finishing the paper
D. the writer got full marks in the physics exam 4. We can learn from the passage that we should _______.A. learn some exam skills
B. concentrate on what we are doing
C. try our best to do well in the exam
D. be careful not to make mistakes in the exam

Elizabeth and I are 18 now, and about to graduate. I think about our elementary-school friendship, but
some memories have blurred (模糊).What happened that day in the fifth grade when Beth suddenly stopped
speaking to me? Does she know that I"ve been thinking about her for seven years? If only we could go back,
and discover what ended our relationship.
I have to speak with Beth. I see her sometimes, and find out school is"fine". It"s not the same. It never
will be. Someone says that she"s Liz now. What happened to Beth?
I can"t call her. Should I write? What if she doesn"t answer me?
How will I know what she"s thinking?
Yes, I"ll write her a letter. These things are easier to express in writing." Be-," no," Li-," no," Elizabeth,"
I begin. The words flow freely, as seven year old memories are reborn. I ask her all the questions that have
been left unanswered in my mind, and pray she will answer. I seal my thoughts in the perfect white envelope,
and imagine Beth looking into her mailbox. Will she know why I"m writing? Maybe she once thought of writing
the same letter.
As the mailman takes my envelope from me forever, I wonder if I"ve made the right decision. Do I have the
right to force myself into Beth"s life again? Am I simply part of the past? I have taken the first step. Beth has
control of the situation now.
One day has passed. Are my words lying on the bottom of the post office floor?
Two days are gone. I"m lost in thought and don"t even hear the phone ting.
     "Hello? It"s Elizabeth."

B. She moved to another school in the fifth grade.
C. She is now called Liz instead of Beth.

2. Why does the author decide to write a letter instead of calling?
A. She is sure that Beth will not answer.
B. She"s afraid that they"ll quarrel on the phone.

A. Their elementary-school friendship.
B. Her future plan after graduation.
C. Her expectations for Beth"s reply.
D. The questions about the endings of their friendship.

For years I wanted a flower garden, but with five children I was too busy to have one. Money was limited,
and so was time. Often one of the children would want something that cost too much, and I would say, "Do
you see a money tree outside? Money doesn"t grow on trees, you know. "Finally, when all five had gotten
through high school and college, and had started having their own families, I started thinking again about having a garden. However, I knew gardens cost money.
Then, one spring morning on Mother"s Day, as I was working in my kitchen, I heard cars drive by and
looked out of the window to see a new tree planted in my yard. I couldn"t believe my eyes: it was a money
tree! Dollar bills were stuck all over that tree, and there was a note which read: "I owe you eight hours of
digging time. Love, Marvin."
Marvin, my first son, kept his promise. He dug up a nice ten-by-fifteen-foot bed (花坛,花圃) for me. My
other children bought me tools, a sunflower stepping stone (踏脚石) and gardening books. We built a garden
together.
That was three years ago. My garden is now very pretty, and just what I"d always wanted. When I go out
to weed or tend my flowers, I don"t seem to miss my children as much as I once did. It feels as if they were
right there with me. When I think about what my children have done for me, I get tears in my eyes every time. I"m still not sure whether money grows on trees. But I know love does!
1. Why had the author never had a flower garden before?
A. Because she had five children to take care of.
B. Because she didn"t have enough time and money.
C. Because her children wanted expensive things.
D. Because her children were going to high school and college.
2. Who helped the author build the garden at last?
A. Her neighbor.
B. Her first son.
C. Her husband.
D. Her five children.
3. Why doesn"t she miss her children as much as she once did?
A. Because she has a big money tree.
B. Because she has a very pretty garden.
C. Because she feels the love of her children in the garden.
D. Because she is busy weeding or tending her flowers.
4. Which of the flowing statements is correct, based on the passage?
A. Money grows on trees only if you plant them with love.
B. The author built a pretty garden after her children had graduated from school.
C. The author actually wanted to have money grow on trees.
D.The children loved their mother so much that they helped her realize her dream.
5. The purpose of this passage is to tell us_________.
A. how to grow you own money tree
B. the story of pretty garden
C. the story of a money tree
D. a story of the love between a mother and her children
