Once upon a time industrial goods were made to last forever. If you bought a car or a stove, it was a once-in-a-lifetime investment. You    51   (pay) good money for it, and you took good care of it. For many the idea of one day having your dream home is not buying a bigger home, but a home that you have built by yourself. A house that is unique and fit for your tastes and your lifestyle. It sounds great but where do you begin to design your dream home? Here is a quick guide that can help you make your dreams come true.
The first step is to get an idea of what type of home you want. You can get inspiration from others. Drive around to neighborhoods that have the styles of homes that you like and take pictures. You can also cut out pictures from magazines, newspapers, or print-out pictures you find on the Internet.
The next step will be to make two lists of items for yourself. The first list will be those items or features that you feel your new home must have, such as granite (花岗岩 ) counter tops or a hot water heater. The second list will be those items or features that are on your wish list like a fireplace or slate (石板) floors.
At this point you will probably have a good idea what your dream home will look like, so you will need to seek some professional help. You will need to hire an architect to put your ideas down on paper. You may need to interview a few different architects to find one that you are comfortable with. Make sure whomever you choose to make the final drawings has a full understanding of local building codes and zoning by-laws (地区议事程序).In any case your final plan will need to be approved by the city and a building permit must be obtained before any construction can begin.
It is time to look for a contractor (承包人). Whichever way you do it, be sure you are comfortable with your contractor and you have gotten references from his past clients (客户). Remember the more homework you do in the beginning, the more enjoyable the process will be.

Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage and the required words limit. Write your answers on your answer sheet.
Several years ago, Masaru Ibuka, the chairman of Sony, was at a company planning a meeting. Suddenly he had a brilliant idea. He stopped the meeting and asked everyone present what would happen if Sony removed the recording function and speaker and sold headphones with a tape player instead. Almost everyone thought he was crazy. Still, Ibuka kept thinking about his idea and worked at refining it. The result, of course, turned out to be the wildly successful Sony Walkman.
Good ideas often start with a really silly question. Bill Bowerman was making breakfast one day. As he stood there making waffles(蛋奶烙饼)for his son, he wondered what would happen if he poured rubber into his waffle iron(蛋奶烙饼烤模).So, he tried and the result looked something like the bottom of most sports shoes we see today. Still, when he took this idea to several existing shoe companies he was literally(确实地)laughed at. In fact, every single company turned him down. Though rather disappointed. Bowerman was determined and went on to form his own company, making NIKE athletic shoes.
Sometimes good ideas grow out of frustration. When Fred Smith was a student at Yale University, he had some paperwork that he needed to have delivered across the country the next day. Smith was amazed to find out that overnight delivery was impossible. He sat for a long while wondering why. Why couldn’t there be reliable overnight mail delivery service? He decided to design one. Smith did just that and turned his design into a class project. His business professor gave him only a C for efforts. However, Smith refined the idea in that class project and eventually turned it into one of the first and most successful overnight mail services in the world——FedEx.
