第四部分读写任务 (共1小题,满分30分)
阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
[阅读材料]
An elderly carpenter(木匠) was ready to retire. He told his employer of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.
The employer was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work.He resorted to(采用) poor workmanship(工艺,手艺) and used inferior(低劣的) materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.
When the carpenter finished his work, the employer came to inspect the house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter."This is your house," he said, "my gift to you."
The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.

答案

We Are What We Make
An expert carpenter, who’d like to retire, was requested to build one more house for his employer. However, the house he built this time was of poor workmanship and inferior materials. When the employer noticed this, he gave the house as a gift to the carpenter , who was greatly shocked.
This story is thought-provoking.It implies that what we do today matters greatly to our future.Good skills and superior materials make a good house.Similarly, what it takes to build a good life are devotion and diligence. Each minor step forward, like a nail, a board or a brick, will contribute to the life we are constructing. For your best work today you will be rewarded tomorrow, and for your poor work today you will get punished.
So our future is based on today’s efforts. Our attitude, and the choices we make today, help shape the "house" we will live in tomorrow. There is a saying: As you sow, so will you reap. The more you devote today, the greater the harvest will be.If we make fewer efforts than we can or even no effort, no goals can be achieved .
To conclude, life is a DIY gift for ourselves. Therefore, Build wisely! Act rather than react, spare no efforts today, and then we will live in the splendid house we have built ourselves.

All thanks to the mobile phone

Dave Mill owes his life to his mobile phone. He was trying to make history by walking to the North Pole alone, without any help or support. But after 50 days of extremely bad weather, during which the temperature dropped as low as minus 30°C, Dave was forced to
abandon his attempt.
He had completed 185 miles of the 375-mile journey and had suffered several mishaps(不幸事故). He had broken his sunglasses, been followed by polar bears and fallen into freezing water twice. Then, after making the decision to give up, he had some more bad luck and found himself stranded (处于困境的) on a floating piece of ice that was slowly melting.

The weather was too bad for any rescue attempt to be made. Dave waited for three days, hoping that conditions would improve. But the rescue planes could not land because dense fog prevented them from seeing the surface of the ice. It was a race against time.
Then he remembered his mobile phone. He marked out a runway on the ice and took a photograph with his digital camera. Then he used his phone to e-mail it to the waiting air rescue team. Using the photograph to guide him, the pilot was able to land in spite of the weather, and Dave was lifted off the ice to safety.
