The book, Bring Your Work To Life, by William John Mills, points out that the secret to meaning in life,
and in work, depends on how you relate to yourself, how you relate to others and your relationship with higher
values or purpose in life.
Relationships are an important part of work. Despite (不管) what the work is, how you relate to people
influences not only how well you work, but also how you feel about yourself.  And how you feel about and
treat yourself in tum influences both how you work and how you get along with others.
Mills suggests that people take a look at how they use time, which is what life is all about. Taking a look
at how you use time, and how you would like to use it, can give you a better picture of yourself, and help you
make better choices in life.
Mills also points out how varying amounts (变化量)  of time and energy influence how people feel.  Having
little energy and too much time on your hands can turn you into a couch (沙发) potato.  But when you have
both time and energy, you will enjoyyour work the best, whatever job you do.
Mills focuses on the need to love what you do, suggesting the following focuses:
1. Be purposeful.  Remind yourself of your purpose and put it into practice.
2. Be responsible. Only attend to those things that are within your control.
3. Be there. Stay focused on what you"re doing at the time you"re doing it.
4. Be accepting.  Accept yourself and accept others.
Mills also shares a quotation,  " Your work is to discover your work, and then withall your heart to give
yourself to it. "
That can make the difference between just living and feeling fully alive. You have to work at living, not
just at working. Mills" book just has excellent guides for such a joumey.
1. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Your attitude to work is your attitude to yourself as well.
B. How you relate to yourself decides the meaning in your life.
C. Having too much energy and time turns you into a couch potato.
D. Focusing on what you"re doing can help you make better friends.
2. The underlined word "That" in the last paragraph probably refers to ____.
A. not only living, but also feeling fully alive
B. being purposeful, responsible and accepting
C. being an excellent guide for your life joumey
D. discovering one"s work and giving oneself to it
3. The best title for the passage is ____ .
A. Love What You Do and What You Have
B. Live a Life with Higher Values or Purpose
C. Find Meaning in Your Work and Your Life
D. Build Relationships Between Your Work and Life

Leading scientists have joined the growing chorus of concem ( worry)  about govemments and companies
rushing into producing biofuels (生物燃料 )  as a solution for global warming, saying that it could be harmful if
they do not consider the long-term  influence of what they are doing carefully.
It is necessary to build standards for the supply system of any green fuel project in order to make sure that
there aren"t any side effects on the environment and social structures. The report produced by the scientists
expresses concem that many companies may not be fully aware of the possible disadvantages.
Production of crops (农作物) ,  such as com and soya beans, has increased greatly in the last few years as
another eco-friendly choice to natural fuels, but environmental and human rights movement leaders are worried
that this will lead to destruction (破坏)  of rain forests.  Food prices could also go up as there is increasing
competition for crops as both food and sources of fuels.  Last week, the UN wamed that biofuels could have
dangerous side effects and said that steps need to be taken to make sure that land chosen to grow biofuels
does not damage the environment or social structures.  There is already great concem about palm oil (棕榈油) , which is used in many foods in addition to being an important biofuel, as rain forests are being cleared in
some countries and people driven from their homes to plant more palms.
The report suggests that biofuels are not a solution for climate change but they can play their ptut as long
as govemments and companies manage the social and environment influence thoroughly.  There should also be
greater measures (措施) taken to increase the effectiveness and to reduce needs.
1. The underlined phrase "side effects" probably means _____ .
A.improving conditions
B.unwanted results
C. increasing influences
D. unchanged advantages
2. The third paragraph is mainly about____.
A. the danger of rain forests
B. the waming given by the UN
C. the green biofuels liked by people
D. the possible disadvantages of biofuels
3. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The development of biofuels will probably influence people"s daily life.
B. Greater measures should be taken to reduce the amount of biofuels.
C. Almost all the companies are worried about the future of biofuels.
D. Rain forests are being cleared to grow more palms as biofuels.

You need 3D glasses to see some films. I think it is easy to make your own 3D glasses instead of buying
them.
There are two ways to make 3D glasses. You can decide which way would be easier for you.
The first way seems like the cheaper way but the things needed to make the glasses this way may not be
things laying around the house. First print out a template(模板) for the glasses at
http://paperproject. org/ PDF files/3 dglasses. pdf.
After you cut out the template, cut your cellophane (玻璃纸) to fit the holes in the glasses. Make sure you
place the red cellophane on the left eye and the blue on the right. You can either stick or tape the cellophane in
place. You are now ready to use your glasses.
To leam more about why your eyes see different colors, read this article:

Another way you can make 3D glasses is to find an old pair of sunglasses. Take out the lenses(镜片).
Get a piece of clear plastic and place the lenses on it, draw a line around the lens and then cut the new
plastic lens out. Place the lens back into the sunglasses frame (框). Color the left lens red with a marker
and the right eye blue. You now are ready to watch 3D films.
1. When do we need to use 3D glasses?
A. When the sun is bright.
B. When we cook dinner.
C. When we make things.

Chinese are very generous when it comes to educating their children. Not caring about the money,
parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the United States or Australia.
They also want their children to take extra- course (额外课程) activities where they will either leam music or
dance,or other classes that will give them a head start in life. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an
education is, the better it is. So parents will spend an unreasonable amount of money on education. Even poor
couples will buy a computer for their son or daughter.
However, what most parents fail to see is that the best early education they can give their children is usually
very cheap. Parents can see that their children"s skills are different, maybe skilled in some areas while poor in
others. What most parents fail to realize though, is that today"s children are in need of self-respect and
self-confidence. The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take tests and how to
study well, but parents are not teaching them the most important skills they need to be confident, happy and
clever.
Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooking, sewing and doing other housework.
Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking requires
patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking,
so he will leam to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give
him much satisfaction and a lot of self-confidence.
Some old machines, such as a broken radio or TV set that you give your child to play with will make him
curious (好奇的) and have interest. He will spend hours looking at them, trying to fix them; your child might
become an engineer when he grows up. These activities are not only teaching a child to read a book, but rather
to think, to use his mind. And that is more important.
1. Most Chinese parents don"t realize ____.
A. how much the best education is worth
B. when children should be educated
C. what children really need in later life
D. why school tests don"t satisfy children
2. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. Leaming to think is very important.
B. Interest is necessary for everything.
C. Broken things are useful for children.
D. Using hands helps improve thinking ability.
3. The writer"s attitude to children"s education is that ____.
A. the cheaper an education is, the better it is
B. children today should leam different skills
C. practical skills are helpful to children"s growth
D. school education can"t meet parents" expectations
