the smallest schoolboy seems to have. He can tell you the names of players in most of the important teams. He
has pictures of them and knows the results of large numbers of matches. He will tell you who he expects to win
such and such a match, and his opinion is usually as good as that of men three of four times his age.
Most schools in England take football seriously — much more seriously than nearly all European schools,
where lessons are all that are important, and games are left for the children themselves. In England, it is believed
that education is not only a matter of filling a boy"s mind with facts in the classroom, education also means the
training of character, and one of the best ways of training character is by means of games, especially team
games, where the boy or girl has to learn to work with others for his team, instead of working for himself alone.
The school, therefore, plans games and matches for its pupils. Football is a good team game, good both for the
body and the mind. That is why it is every school"s game in England.
B. learn football in class
C. know all the result of football matches
D. work together in football teams

do you know? You saw these things on TV. You learned about them through advertising.
People have been advertising for thousands of years. Long ago, men called "criers" walked up and down
the street. They shouted about things that were being sold.
Later, people met at one place. This place was a market. Some people came to sell. Other people came
to buy. But only those people who were at the market knew what was being sold.
When people learned about printing, things changed. Soon there were newspapers. Many people read the
newspapers. They saw many advertisements in the papers. Later, more people saw and listened to the
advertisements on TV. Are the people who sell to us "criers"?
B. buy things we hear about
C. look at the ads on TV

school to your television habits, it might just seem like you argue with your parents about everything. Though
this is not pleasant, it is normal and it will most possibly pass. At the same time, remember to argue fairly,
respectfully (尊重地) and argue only when needed. It might be hard to stay in control while arguing with
parents, but it will do you a lot of good.
Arguments between teens and parents generally come about when both parties believe that they know
what is best. Parents have been caring for their teens for over ten years, but teens are quickly becoming adults
and believe that they are able to take care of themselves. If you are a teen arguing with your parents, remember
that your parents love you and only want what is best for you. If you must argue with them, argue fairly,
respectfully by:
▲Letting each person in the argument to speak what they want to say.
▲Refusing to break in others when they are speaking.
▲Only Arguing about the topic at hand. Don"t talk about past hurts.
▲Showing your parents that you have thought about the issue (事情) and are trying to sort things for
yourself.
There is a small difference between having a discussion and an argument, but smart teens know that
having a discussion with their parents will make things easier.
Arguing with parents is usually a hallmark (标记) of the teenaged years, but out of control arguments
don"t serve anyone well. Before arguing with your parents, decide what type of teen you want to be and what
you are willing to do in order to achieve your goals.
B. Parents don"t want their children to grow up.
C. Teens don"t need their parents" care any more.
D. They have different habits.
Spring Festival comes, buying tickets of train trip would be very hard. And things seem to be getting worse and
worse, although we have greatly increased the mileage of railway network and speeded up trains. Why? It"s
because too many people want to go back home to spend Spring Festival with their family. Many people become
angry with the Ministry (部) of Railways. They wonder why it is hopeless for them to get the tickets from the
railway station. Instead, they sometimes can only buy them from ticket scalpers at much higher price.
The Ministry of Railways estimated (估计) that about 188 million passengers would travel by train during
the 40-day peak period surrounding the 2009 Spring Festival holiday. The number of travelers will be 8% higher
than that of 2008. This problem even drew the President Hu Jintao"s attention. He wrote a note to Liu Zhijun,
Minister of the Ministry of Railways, asking him to ensure a "smooth and safe" transportation and brainstorm
(集思广益) for measures (对策) to improve passenger convenience and make them all public. Afterward,
officials from the Ministry of Railways said they would try their best not to let any ticket-buyers spend Spring
Festival at the railway station.
B.商贩
C.票贩
D.赌徒

in sports? It may not be true. They often say they have 2 more important things to do.
What are these important things? Exams! They have to get themselves ready for all kinds of exams
and tests in school, so many of them almost 3 bookworms. In the past in the summer holidays, they
could do 4 they like, but now they have to spend all their free time preparing for exams. So 5 have
kept them away going in for sports.
Because of the pressure (压力) from their parents and teachers, they have to work harder and spend
most of their time 6 books. As for the students themselves, they don"t want to fail the exams because
they want to continue their 7 studies. So it becomes necessary to give 8 of their spare time to their
studies and 9 up their school sports.
It is true that a good education cannot go without physical training, and the same is true that a quick
mind hardly goes along without 10 body. Without a strong body, you can never do anything well, then
how can you make great success in life?
