months. But, if you are really fond of him and his works, you should be
aware of something about him before he got his fame.
As a child, Jay Chou was never too good at school courses, and when he couldn"t enter any college, a lot of people predicted (预言) that he wouldn"t
have much potential in the future: His room always worried about his future, but he never did. "I knew I still had music to depend on. It is for nay musical
talent that I"m so sure of myself" he recalls. Growing up in a single-parent
family, Jay lived a lonely childhood. Without many friends, he had a hobby of daydreaming, imaging himself into the world of music.
So how did Jay get in music? At the age of three, he started learning to
play the piano. He recalls his mother being very strict and making .sure he
practiced enough. ,Later, he learned to play the cello(大提琴). Today, both of them are the instruments that he plays at a superior level.
With all the musical talent, it isn"t surprising that Jay started out as a
songwriter. Since the age of sixteen, he has been writing songs for many
popular singers. Today, he has already written for some of the most popular Asian singers, including Coco Lee, Jacky Wu(吴宗宪), Valen Hsu (许茹芸), Power Station(动力火车), etc.

Do you hear of Uncle Sam? Who is Uncle Sam? Where does he come from? What does he look
like? Well, Uncle Sam is not a real person. It was made sometime during the War of 1812 to symbolize
the United States of America. Where does the name come from? No one is really sure, but most people
think he was named after Samuel Wilson.
Samuel Wilson was born in Massachusetts in 1766. he moved to New York, where he became a
meat supplier(供应商). There, he put meat into barrels(桶)to send to the American government then
to the United States army. The barrels of meat were marked with the letters "U.S." to show that they
came from the United States. One story says that the soldiers jokingly called the meat supplier "Uncle
Sam" to talk about the letters on the barrels. So when people talked about Uncle Sam, they mean "the
American government", because the meat came from the American government.
Uncle Sam seems to show up just about everywhere today. Some places you might want to look
for him are television, newspapers, magazines, and history books. He has even shown up in cartoons!
The one place you probably won’t see him is at your next family dinner!
