Successive image disasters are
biting the reputation of Paul Andreu （保罗 安德鲁）in China. The 65-year-old
French architect has designed several landmark structures in major Chinese
cities, including the National Grand Theater (国家大剧院)in
Beijing, currently under construction.

In the last days of May, Chinese
media vied with each other to quote their overseas counterpart to report that
Andreu has already been the subject of a judicial probe launched last July over
a suspicious “abuse of trust” involving his former
government-run employer, Paris Airport Authority (ADP). The job of designing
the National Grand Theater in Beijing was contracted to the ADP, said an
anonymous letter to French judicial authorities, which accused Andreu of having
been paid twice for the Beijing contract, first as an employee of the ADP andsecond as architect of his private company.
