A few minutes after he disappeared into the 58 , he came running toward the house again. I went back to making sandwiches, 59 that whatever task he had been doing was completed. Moments later, 60 , he was once again walking slowly toward the woods.
61 curiosity, I walked out and followed him on his journey. He was 62 both hands in front of him as he walked, being 63 not to spill the water he held in them. I secretly walked 64 behind him as he went into the woods and I saw the most amazing 65 .
Several large deer loomed in front of him. Billy walked right up to them. I almost 66 at him to get away. A huge male deer with elaborate(精美的)antlers was 67 close. But they didn’t even move as Billy 68 . And I saw a small deer lying on the ground, obviously suffering from 69 and extreme heat, lift its head 70 to drink the water cupped in my beautiful boy’s hands.
It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of 71 . You know, we hadn’t had any rain for three months and our crops were 72 . As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly 73 by other drops. I looked up at the sky. It was 74 God was moved to weep. The rain came that day and saved our farm, just like the 75 of one little boy who saved another.

举一反三
It was soon clear I couldn"t stay in China forever. To become a world-class musician, I had to play on the world"s big stages. So in 1997, my father and I moved again, this time to Philadelphia, so I could attend The Curtis Institute of Music. Finally our money worries were easing. The school paid for an apartment and even lent me a Steinway(斯坦威钢琴).At night, I would sneak into the living room just to touch the keys.
Now that I was in America, I spent two years practicing, and by 1999 I had worked hard enough for fortune to take over. The Chicago Symphony orchestra heard me play and liked me, but orchestra schedules were set far in advance. I thought I might join them in a few years.
The next morning, I got a call. The great pianist Andre Watts, who was to play the "Gala Benefit Evening" at Chicago"s Ravinia Festival, had become ill. I was asked to replace him. That performance was, for me, the moment. After violinist Isaac Stern introduced me, I played Tchaikovsky"s Piano Concerto No. 1. My father"s mouth hung open throughout the entire song.
I played until 3:30 a.m. I felt something happening. Sure enough, it was a great success. Still, my father kept telling me, "You"d better practice!" But living in America with me was beginning to relax him. In Beijing I"d been fat -- he made sure I ate -- and he"d been skinny. Now I was getting thin. He wasn"t.
My father and I had often practiced a piece called "Horses," a fun version for piano and erhu. One night in Carnegie Hall, after I played Chopin and Liszt, I brought Dad out on the stage, and we played our duet(二重奏). People went crazy -- they loved it. My father couldn"t sleep for days. He was too happy to sleep.
There have been lots of concerts in Carnegie Hall, but for me playing there was especially sweet when I remember the cold days in Beijing. Together, my father and I worked to reach the lucky place where fortune spots you, and lets you shine.

Now,it seems, the tables have turned .Some days I am the teacher, other days I am thestudent. These young people have reawakened my commitment to social justice issues bychallenging me to learn more about the situation in the world today, where people are still poorand suffer because of greed, corruption and war. Most importantly, they have given me theopportunity to continue to participate in helping to find solutions. In return, I help them do theircharitable projects overseas.I"ve gone from running one school to helping oversee theconstruction of schools in twenty-one countries!

There are at least three things going on that have caused the price of wine to rise. All haveto do with the supply and demand factors of economics.
The first factor is that people are drinking more wine than ever before. This demand formore wine has increased wine sales in America at the rate of 15 percent a year.
The second factor is that the supply of wine has stayed relatively the same, which meansthat the same number of bottles is produced each year.Wine producers are trying to open upnew land to grow more grapes. But in at least three wine producing areas of the world-France,Germany, and California --- new vineyards(葡萄园)will not be useable in the near future.Wines are produced in other countries, such as Italy, Spain, and Portugal, as well as Argentine,Australia, Austria, and Chile. And these wines will be seen more often on the American market. But none of these countries will be able to fill the good wines.
The third factor is that costs of wine production are soaring. The workers who make wineare asking for more money, and the machinery needed to press the grapes is becoming moreexpensive.
When the demand for something is greater than the supply, prices go up.When productioncosts, meaning the price of labor and machinery rise, the producer adds this increase to theprice of the wine. For these reasons, that bottle of wine now costs 2.25 instead of 1.69.
小题1:What is the main idea of this passage?
A.Every year people drink more wine. |
B.Countries won"t be able to fill the demand for good wines. |
C.The prices of things go up when the demand for them is greater than the supply. |
D.The supply of wine will always be less than demand. |
A.describe where wine is produced |
B.persuade people drink more beer |
C.explain why the price of wine is rising |
D.describe why wine is a favorite drink to many Americans |
A.adding quickly | B.reducing fast |
C.demanding badly | D.increasing fast |
I remember my dad teaching me the power of language at a very young age.
One fairly interesting event happened when I was eight. As a kid, I was always climbing trees, poles, and __31__ around upside down from the rafters (房梁) of our house. So, it __32__ to no surprise for my dad to __33__ me at the top of a 30-foot tree swinging back and forth. Without realizing the tree could break or I could get __34__, I just thought it was__35__ to be up so high.
My cousin, Tammy, was in the same tree. She was hanging on the first big __36__ about ten feet below me. Tammy’s mother also __37__ us at the exact time my dad did. About that time a huge gust of wind came over the tree and I could feel the tree begin to sway. I remembered my dad’s __38__ over the wind yelling, “Bart, __39__ on tightly.” So I did.
The next thing I know, I heard Tammy __40__ at the top of her lungs, __41__ flat on the ground. She had fallen out of the tree.
I came down the tree to __42__. My dad later told me why Tammy fell and I didn’t. __43__, when Tammy’s mother felt the wind, she yelled out, “Tammy, don’t __44__!” And Tammy did do that.
My dad then __45__ to me that the mind has a very __46__ time dealing with a negative image. In order to deal with the __47__ of not falling, Tammy’s brain had to first imagine falling, and then tell the brain not to do what it just imagined. However, my eight-year-old brain __48__ had an internal image of hanging on tightly.
This “Self-Talk” is especially useful when you are __49__ to break a habit or set a goal. You can’t imagine not doing something in your mind. The only way to accomplish it is to find a word for what you want to do.
I’m now a pretty good football player, because all my internal dialogue is __50__ and encourages me to win. All this I owe to my dad.
