阅读理解。     All right! Enough cookies, cola, and chips! It seems that
junk food (垃圾食物) is all that the children want to eat these
days. Television controls their tastes. The kids see well-known per-
sonalities eating potato chips, candy and other processed (处理过
的 ) food,  and they want to be like their heroes. How do they do it?
They eat the same food. I wish there were more characters like old
Popeye, the sailor, who ate spinach (菠菜) and not French fries.
Now I expect my children to eat healthy food because I like
brown rice, beans, and fresh vegetables. I"m glad to cook traditional
meals of meat and potatoes for them. I really can"t be too upset with
the kids because most adults aren"t careful about what they eat.
The other night, my wife and I went to a party where there
was plenty to drink but very little for us to eat. They served hot
dogs and hamburgers. I can"t eat hot dogs, with all those
preservatives (防腐剂) ,and hamburgers are filled with chemicals
so that they look better. Besides the meat, they had sugar-filled
cookies and cake, and of course, chips.
I don"t want the world to change because of me, but I think
people should realize that there are choices to eating meat. They
always tell me that I probably don"t get my essential (必要的)
proteins (蛋白质). I feel better than ever and I"m sure that it"s
because I"m a vegetarian (素食者) .I would really like to see more
television advertisements which show the benefits of good, healthy,
natural food.1. According to the passage, it seems that____.A. the kids like to have fried chicken only
B. the kids prefer to have cold drinks but not junk food
C. canned food is the only one that the kids enjoy most

C. complained about the food the party had served
D. doubted if both the adults and the children were healthy3. Hamburgers look better _____ .   A. but taste bad
B. because they are treated with chemicals
C. so the author prefers them to hot dogs
D. and the author expects the children to eat them4. Which of the following is NOT true?    A. Television influences children"s food choice.
B. The author is not single and definitely he eats meat.
C. Though the author is a vegetarian,he feels very healthy.

阅读理解。      The fried foods, salty snacks and meat are major food of the
Western diet, which accounts for about 30 percent of heart attack
risk (风险)  across the world.  Meanwhile, a diet rich in fruits and
vegetables, the so-called "Prudent" diet, can lower the risk of
heart attack, according to a study.
The research, which looked at dietary habits in 52 countries,
found people who ate a Western diet had a 35 percent greater risk
of having a heart attack compared to those who ate little or no fried
foods and meat. Those who followed a "Prudent" diet had a 30
percent lower risk of heart attack compared to those who eat little
fruits and vegetables.
The authors also looked at an "Oriental" diet, rich in tofu,
soy and other sauces (酱类), and found it did not increase or
decrease the risk of a heart attack.
Previous studies have reached similar conclusions about the
"Prudent" and Western diet in the United States and Europe, but
did not include the Oriental pattern of eating. While some food of
the Oriental diet may protect against heart trouble, the higher
sodium (钠)  content of sauces counter (抵消) that benefit.
"This study indicates that the same relationships that are
observed in Western countries exist in different regions of the
world," a professor of medicine at McMaster University said.
Canadian researchers analyzed risk factors in food choices
and the risk of heart attack in about 16,000 people in 52
countries. Almost 6,000 people had heart attacks, while the rest
had no heart disease.1. According to the passage, the _____ can lower the risk of  heart attack by 30% .     A. Western diet

C. "Oriental" diet
D. not mentioned2. The " Oriental"  diet mainly includes the following food EXCEPT _____. A. fried food

C. soy
D. sauces3. If you want to avoid a heart attack, you should avoid  _____.  A. vegetables and fruits
B. tofu and soy
C. high sodium
D. the "Prudent" diet4.  The underlined word "relationships" mentioned in the last butone paragraph refers to "_____  "   A. study and diet
B. diet and heart attack
C. Western diet and " Oriental"  diet
D. the United States and Europe5. From the passage, we can learn that  _____. A. the "Prudent" diet is rich in salty snacks and meat.

阅读理解。              The Diet Zone: A Dangerous Place
Diet Coke, diet Pepsi, diet pills, no-fat diet, vegetable
diet... We are surrounded by the word" diet" everywhere we look
and listen. We have so easily been attracted by the promise and
potential of diet products that we have stopped thinking about what
diet products are doing to us. We are paying for products that
harm us psychologically and physically (身体上).
Diet products significantly weaken us psychologically. On one
level, we are not allowing our brains to admit that our weight
problems lie not in actually losing the weight, but in controlling
the consumption of fatty, high-calorie, unhealthy foods. Diet
products allow us to jump over the thinking stage and go straight
for the scale (秤) instead. All we have to do is to swallow or
recognize the word" diet" in food labels.
On another level, diet products have greater psychological
effects. Every time we have a zero-calorie drink, we are telling
ourselves without our awareness that we don"t have to work to get
results. Diet products make people believe that gain comes without
pain, and that life can be without resistance and struggle.
The danger of diet products lies not only in the psychological
effects they have on us, but also in the physical harm that they
cause. Diet foods can indirectly harm our bodies because
consuming them instead of healthy foods means we are preventing
our bodies from having basic nutrients (营养成分).  Diet foods
and diet pills contain zero calorie only because the diet industry
has created chemicals to produce these wonder products. Diet
products may not be nutritional, and the chemicals that go into diet
products are potentially dangerous.
Now that we are aware of the effects that diet products have
on us, it is time to seriously think about buying them. Losing
weight lies in the power of minds, not in the power of chemicals.
Once we realize this, we will be much better able to resist diet
products, and therefore prevent the psychological and physical
harm that comes from using them.1. From Paragraph 1,we learn that ____   A. diet products fail to bring out people"s potential
B. people have difficulty in choosing diet products
C. diet products are misleading people
D. people are fed up with diet products2. One psychological effect of diet products is that people tend to ____  .  A. try out a variety of diet foods
B. hesitate before they enjoy diet foods
C. pay attention to their own eating habits
D. watch their weight rather than their diet3. In Paragraph 3, " gain comes without pain" probably means____.       A. losing weight is effortless
B. it costs a lot to lose weight
C. diet products bring no pain
D. diet products are free from calories4. Diet products indirectly harm people physically because suchproducts____.    A. are over-consumed
B. lack basic nutrients
C. are short of chemicals
D. provide too much energy 5. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
CP: central point
P: point
SP: sup-point
