Have you ever seen a windsock blowing in the wind? Well, you can make one of your own! This is a fun
game that you can do with things you may have at home. You just need to follow a few easy steps.
You will need:
    ●one piece of colored paper
    ●five ribbons
    ●strong tape
    ●a string
    ●a pencil

What to do:
Step 1: Decorate the paper. You can draw pictures on it. You can write your name. Do anything that will
make it special to you.
Step 2: Roll the paper into the shape of a tube. Then stick the tube together at each end and in the middle
with a strong tape.
Step 3: Use a pencil to make a hole into both sides of the tube. The holes should be only on one end of the
tube. Pull the string through both holes. Then tie the ends of the string together.
Step 4: Make five holes around the top of the other end of the tube. Put a ribbon through each of the holes.
Tie firmly in case they get loose.
Now your windsock is ready to use, but how does it work? Wind flows through the tube and makes it fly
and dance around. Hold the windsock up in the air by its string and run around. It will fly behind you. You can
also hang it outside and watch it dance around on its own!

                                                                 Traveling
It is exciting to visit different places. As you travel, you will admire the beauty of nature. Besides, you
can make friends with people from different places. Finally, you can get to know the culture and enjoy the
delicious food. Today people are so fond of traveling that tourism has become one of the faster growing
industries in most countries.
The main reason why people travel is, perhaps, to relax. For example, having worked hard throughout
the weekdays, people will find a trip to the nearby mountains or beaches for a real relaxation. For another
example, spending a holiday traveling abroad is an especially satisfying experience for those who do not
have much of an opportunity to be away from their homelands. When people return from their travel, they
will generally feel fresh and energetic, ready to work harder.
Traveling is also one of the best means for learning and broadening your views. You may have read or
heard about something but you can never get an accurate picture of it until you see it for yourself. Seeing
is believing. Furthermore, if you are a careful observer, you can learn much during your travel about the
geography, biology, and history of the places you visit. No matter how well educated you are, there is
always a lot for you to learn through traveling. The knowledge acquired from travel, as you will have found
in your life, is no less valuable than that from any influential reference book.
Questions:
1. What"s the main reason why people travel?
    ____________________________________________________.
2. How do people feel when they return from their traveling?
    ____________________________________________________.
3. What does the writer think of the knowledge acquired from travel?

Most people go to a doctor in their own town or suburb. But people in the Australian outback can"t get to
a doctor quickly. The nearest doctor is sometimes hundreds of kilometers away so they have to call him on
a two-way radio. This special doctor is called the "flying doctor". He visits sick people by plane.
When someone is sick, the doctor has to fly to the person"s home. His plane lands on a flat piece of ground
near the person"s house. Sometimes has to take the patients to hospital. Flying doctors take about 8,600 people
to hospital each year.
However, most of time the person isn"t very sick, and the doctor doesn"t have to visit. He can give advice
on the radio from the office at the flying center. He can tell the patient to use some medicine from a special
medicine chest (箱子). There is one of these chests in every home in the outback. Each bottle, tube and packet
in the chest has a number. The doctor often says something like this, "Take two tables from bottle 5 every
four hours."

When you want to go shopping, decide how much money you can spend on new clothes. Think about
the kind of clothes you really need. Then look for those clothes you really need. Then look for those clothes
on sale.
There are labels (标签) inside all new clothes. The labels tell you how to take care of your clothes. The
label for a shirt may tell you to wash it in warm water. A sweater label may tell you to wash in cold water.
The label on a coat may say "dry clean only", for washing may ruin this coat. If you do as the directions
(说明) on the label, you can keep your clothes looking their best for a long time.
Many clothes today must be dry cleaned. Dry cleaning is expensive. When buying new clothes, check
to see if they will need to be dry cleaned. You will save money if you buy clothes that can be washed.
You can save money if you buy clothes that are well made. Well-made clothes last longer. They look good
even after they have been washed many times. Clothes that cost more money are not certainly better made.
They do not always fit better. Sometimes less expensive clothes look and fit better than more expensive

(     )1. Dear Helen,
I"m a boy in a middle school. My problem is that I want to make friends, but I don"t know how.
My classmates seem to be OK, but I just know I"ll do something wrong. Please help me.
                                                                                                                                                  xx
(     )2. Dear Helen,
My best friend is a nice young girl, but she has a serious shortcoming. She is always late. When
we"re planning to do something together, she always keeps me waiting for her. Once she was 30
minutes late for our meeting. What can I do?
                                                                                                                                                   xx
(     )3. Dear Helen,
I"m feeling very upset these days because the result of my last English exam was very bad. Even
though my teacher told me that I could do better the next time, I"m still feeling very bad. I need your
           help.
                                                                                                                                                   xx
(     )4. Dear Helen,
I"m a girl student in a middle school. One day a boy in my class gave me a love letter and he
wanted me to be his girl friend. I know we are just students and it"s not a proper time for me to fall
in love with somebody. I also do not want to hurt that boy. What can I do?
                                                                                                                                                    xx
A. Dear xx,
I understand how you feel about your problem and it"s very important for you to find more chances to
communicate with your classmates. You can ask your classmates about their likes and dislikes. Also, you
can join them in discussions and show your interest in their ideas. You can change the situation!
                                                                                                                                                  Helen
B. Dear xx,
You could try talking to her about the importance of being on time, and you can also tell her that you are
very unhappy with her about this. If she really cares about your friendship, she will not always keep you
    waiting for long.
                                                                                                                                                  Helen
C. Dear xx,
Scores are important for a student, but you don"t have to care too much about the result of one test.
You are learning. Maybe it is more important o find out why you failed to achieve your goal. Try to do
      better next time.
                                                                                                                                                   Helen
D. Dear xx,
"Be yourself" is the best solution. If I were you, I"d tell him to leave me alone. At least tell him, "That
was hurtful. Please don"t say things like that to me. I"m a football fan and like watching football games.
I can make my own decision."
                                                                                                                                                   Helen
E. Dear xx,
You"re right. As a student, it"s not a proper time for you to fall in love with a boy. If I were you, I would
make it clear to the boy that you could not accept his love. If possible, you can tell the boy you two can be
friends if he can forget it. I hope it can help you.
                                                                                                                                                   Helen
